Chapter 25: Side Story: Serpent's Hand Dungeon Exploration[First Draft]
On the Upper Floors of the dungeon, a team of six is sitting around dungeon rock formations. They entered the dungeon to train their coordination, they're strangers to each other after all. If they want to work together, they need to understand each other.
"Augh... Honestly, it's a bit of a letdown."
Vi, the woman with a mechanical arm said, below her is a big copper alloy gun. It had a square riveted body and three barrels. It had a rotating firing mechanism. When it shoots the barrels spins and fires in alternation. It had a rate of fire of 500 bullets per second. Luckily, the tavern basement is filled with bullets from her old world so she could enjoy shooting monsters, among other things from the past.
"Right? I thought it would be like beyonder creatures... It's kinda fun though, like video games?"
Jack looked suddenly confused. Video games?
"video games?"
Jack only shook his head. Their conversation has been going on like this. They would start a conversation, someone would answer adding something from their past, then they don't know what it meant and instantly souring the mood. They're like a group of bad comedians having an amnesiac skit. The problem is that they actually all have amnesia!
A bright idea suddenly came to Jack. He needs to salvage the mood somehow.
"That's an interesting gun, what is it called?"
If they can't talk about the past they lost. Why not talk about the present?
"Oh, this? It's called a Gatling gun! It shoots really fast! I bought it somewhere but I can't remember!" Said Vi happily
"It's an interesting contraption. A non-Beyonder item that could kill a beyonder." Old Man Houdini joins in the fun.
"That's cool! What else are you good at?"
"Ohoho! Glad you asked! I'm good at making things explode!"
"Wha!? Show us!" Jack requested
"Ahh, I don't have materials right now. Maybe next time?"
Jack finding the right way to connect the team decided to go for it.
"Ah! Old Man, your staff is so nice! We got to sneak into here without trouble, what kind of beyonder item is that? tell us the spec!"
"This? It's called Staff Of Invisibility, young man. Spec? Do you mean it's ability? As you have seen, it can turn anyone invisible, the downside is that the caster becomes cowardly afterward."
Everyone suddenly turn their head toward Houdini, with looks of worry.
"Ayia. Sorry Old Man, we should have known earlier. Is that the reason you just stand around when we were fighting monsters?"
"Hmm? Oh, you misunderstood, the after-effect doesn't last long with my ability. I'm just a coward naturally! Haha!"
Old Man Houdini gave a hearty laugh while everyone choked on their words.
"Haha, you're funny Old Man! How about you two big guys, what do you get."
Jack said as he turn his attention away from the weird old man and towards the two giants.
""gork an mork, gud at fight'n', have bloodthirsta axe, kill demons. Mad beserka powa."
The two said in unison. Although the two crude 7ft tall barbarians are intimidating. The group has long understood that they're gentle giants with muscle brains and a big heart. Their actions during fighting monsters prove that both of them volunteered themselves without words as guards for the party, and even constantly asked the old man if he was okay afterward every time his body shake in fear.
"Right Right! You two big guys are so strong."
Jack then looked at Ms. Shamere. Shamere had been quiet throughout the exploration. Even during the tour of Orario. Although you would occasionally hear her murmur word of amazement and shock like "wah~" and "woah~" followed by her inhaling "sss.". Jack cannot get a good read of her. During the fighting, she would just sit around and occasionally cheer on them with fist pumps and claps. She can't be that weird right? Jack thought.
"How about you Ms. Shamere?"
"Sss. I like to talk to spirits...I only have this earing, it carries the voice of the unliving...Ssss."
Shamere said as she reveals a purple gem earring that surrounds her earlobe with golden hangings.
"Oh, that's cool!"
"Sss. How about you, Jack? Sss"
"Oh, I have this knife? I call it, Certain Death! I'm good at murder! This knife gives me an uncontrollable bloodlust!"
"Sss... It's a beyonder weapon? Odd, I couldn't sense it..."
"Indeed, I thought it was an ordinary knife, Young Jack! I should have thought otherwise you're not so simple."
"Aah, it's an ordinary knife, I just thought naming it was cool."
Everyone choked on their words again. This... Aren't you just a weirdo? Everyone thought.
"Sss...Now that I think about it... Your kind of the same pathway, are usually haunted by evil spirits... But aren't you surrounded by good happy spirits?"
"gork an' mork can't smell blood on ya"
The two giants nodded in agreement. Everyone suddenly agreed. This [Criminal] is a bit weird.
"the! What are you guys talking about? I'm an upright evil serial genocider! So many innocent children have been felled by my hand! Any moment now my dark flame dragon will burst out from the sealing in my hand!"
Jack made theatrical action as he said, exaggeratingly clutching his hand.
"Sss. Why don't you speak the truth kid? Sss."
Jack then became somber. Looking down, he admits his defeat.
"Yes... In truth I have never killed anyone, I think. I can't really remember much. Also, I'm only "acting", otherwise, if I don't "act", I might really go on a killing spree and lose control and you know... I don't really want to kill anyone... even if guilty people."
Everyone nodded in understanding, it seems this young beyonder is troubled.
"*sniffles*"
"huh!? Old Man why are you crying!?"
Houdini is suddenly in tears.
"Don't worry young Jack! We will protect your virginity at all costs!"
"Old Man! That sounds wrong! You didn't have to say it that way!"
Jack angrily retorted. This Old Man is a big weirdo.
"Hah! Anyway, we're in isekai! We might as well enjoy it like those anime shows on TV!"
"Sekai? anime? TV? stop using words we don't understand." said Vi irritatedly
"I don't understand it either so it's fine!"
"You are different Young Jack!"
"I don't want to hear that from a weirdo like you Old Man!"
Suddenly everyone stood up at the same time and start moving.
"Sss. Agree, he is indeed a "weirdo". Sss"
"You guys are a bunch of weirdos! Your moms are a weirdo! your whole families are a weirdo!"
"Haha! Gork and Mork havin' fun!"
"Hahaha"""""
They left the dungeon as a family of circumstance.
