Chapter 17: Chapter 16 : Midnight killing.
Peach felt content as she stared at the fire, they'd drawn lots or twigs which Whiskers had picked himself. Since she picked the shortest one, she took the first shift. She replayed the day's events and held herself even tighter.
She glanced at Kofi who seemed to have comfortably fallen asleep on the dry leaves beneath their nature tent while using a stone as a pillow. Though the girl seemed extremely silly she was also very smart but chose not to show it.
[ I jumped out of a plane today and saw Dylan Omenio up close, I still can't believe it ] Peach was so distracted by her thoughts, she didn't notice the moving shadows or rustling leaves around her.
In fact, none of them were asleep. Dylan was still wondering about the plane and Kofi while Chase was simply too shocked to close his eyes. Kofi on the other hand wasn't a deep sleeper. In fact, she barely slept in her past life.
Being the first to realize something was wrong, she sat up just in time to see someone reaching out for Peach's neck and threw her trident which was on the ground, next to her.
It sliced the air around it as it settled in the masked man's temple and he slumped to the floor. Peach screamed and crawled backwards. Kofi got up coldly and looked up at a tree branch, pointing her other trident at the darkness " You woke me up ".
Dylan recovered quicker than the others, still feeling shocked by Kofi's actions [ Did she do that in her sleep? ] Another appeared out of the darkness and dashed towards Peach who was frozen with fear on the floor. Running towards her, he wrapped the silver thread around the figures head and got her out of the way in time.
Chase had recovered quickly enough to use the butt of his gun to knock one out. Kofi walked calmly to the body of the one that had started the whole thing and removed her trident and wiped it clean on him.
Whiskers was next to her as she did so and she smirked, " I'll get more survival points if I kill them, right "? Whiskers nodded mischievously " Of course " and Kofi got up, " Perfect ". One headed towards Dylan who was protecting Peach.
Kofi ran right into him, surprising them both and used her tridents to stab him in the stomach. He screamed out in pain as he tried to break free, Kofi quickly removed one of the tridents and slit his throat.
The blood spilled on her face as the man immediately went limp. She dropped his body and saw the others were still struggling with their attackers, " They never end "! And smiled, " Exactly what I needed ".
Dylan saw Kofi coming this time and gave her an extra boost, allowing her to deal with the one coming from behind while he dealt with the one in front of him. Kofi slit his throat and again the blood sprayed her face [ I don't miss the spray ]
She did a flip and was pleasantly surprised when Dylan caught her. They looked at each other and smiled, Kofi pulled Peach back while Dylan did the same. Dylan felt slightly panicked as he whispered, " We're surrounded ".
Kofi didn't say anything and he was surprised when he heard a gunshot. She threw Chase a rifle and again continued shooting into the night, [ She has no regard for human life ] and he was definitely right.
The only thing that mattered to Kofi were her survivor points, [ I must get back to level hundred ] Kofi wasn't sure how exactly to level up, she just knew killing worked the most effectively for her in Delvara.
The enemy was literally obliterated to pieces and Kofi seemed to suddenly become self aware. She expected them to run away from her or even try and kill her as well but Peach suddenly hugged her, " I was so scared ".
The others laughed and Dylan squeezed Kofi's face, " We should move camp though and get you cleaned up, looks like you just got out of a blood bath ". They all laughed as they picked their gear and moved to another place.

Dylan glanced at Kofi who seemed to be sleeping comfortably as she leaned on a tree trunk and slept with that fox of hers in her hands [ She's dangerous...I have to report back to the organization about her ]
Kofi frowned, wrinkling her nose and then smiled and he sighed. If she really wanted something from them, she wouldn't need to go through all this stress. He mumbled quietly to himself as he glanced at her " Maybe I'm over thinking it ". [ How can I not put her and stress in the same sentence at this point? ]
