Chapter 28: His rival
Ryker helped Landon get to her feet, he removed a crystal from his pocket and healed his minor wounds. The major wounds such as the broken bones in his leg and his rib were a little had to heal with little energy on the crystal.
Zaugustus made him a walking stick to support him as he walked. Ryker offered to support him as they made their way to find the prince. Sly walked ahead of them thinking of Ryker's words. He couldn't believe that the prince had fallen in love with that wimpy girl.
"Do you think what you did was right?" Zaugustus asked the royal adviser.
"What do you mean?" Ryker inquired wondering what he was going on about.
"Do you think it was wise to tell Sly that the prince was in love with Lady Lara?" he asked him. Landon who was walking between them just listened to their conversation. His body ached that he had no more energy to join in on the conversation even though he was the subject being discussed.
"I did what I thought was right to save her. The prince will thank me for it," he replied with a carefree attitude.
"He might but the merman is not one who either forgets not forgives especially when someone touches what belongs to him," Zaugustus stated.
"And what has that got to do with what happened?"
"It seems playing a hero and working for once in your life has knocked your brains out of your head. Did you forget the fact that Sly owns the prince? His body, soul, and mind are his and you have just informed him that the prince has given someone else his heart. Do you think he is going to take this lying down?" Zaugustus asked him.
Ryker paused in his tracks, he had completely forgotten that fact before he boldly declared that the prince was in love with Lara.
"I can promise you that he is going to fight the prince before he shreds Lady Lara to pieces," Zaugustus added. "Remember the last time someone tried to get close to the prince, he destroyed her kingdom and brought their king to his knees to prove a point to her."
"But lady Ara is safely by the prince's side," Ryker commented knowing that he had dug a big grave for Lady Lara that not even the prince will stop him from being buried in.
"Only because the elf King was able to give the king something to appease him. Had the prince not stepped up, the elvian race would be history today but are you sure he would do the same for him?" he asked pointing to Landon.
Landon remained quiet listening to them, his heart was pounding in his chest on hearing about Sly. He could only imagine what the man could do to him a mere human if he lost control as he did back there.
'I need to get back on the prince's good books so that he can shield me from the merman,' he thought but to understand that it won't be easy to do that in this land. He had brought to a place that only brings him bad memories and at the moment the cards were against him.
He looked at Sly and watched him walking ahead. He looked so peaceful and handsome in his sleep but he was so dangerous. He just couldn't understand why these beautiful beasts had to be so dangerous. If only they were harmless then his life wouldn't be so difficult.
The beasts were just like cats, they were playful and cute. They loved to sleep and we're peaceful while doing so but stepping on their feet is like trying to bathe a cat. Then they show you their true colors and tear you apart.
He came out of his thoughts when his heart started pounding from fear. He looked up and found that Sly was flashing a murderous glare in his direction. He swallowed the lump in his throat and unconsciously moved back.
"Lady Lara, are you alright?" Ryker asked her and traced her gaze to Sly. The male didn't look away and continued to glare at Landon.
"Sly, come on. You are scaring her," he said in a friendly tone. "Can we just find the prince first, you can settle whatever issues you have with Lara later," he said trying to get him to think about the prince and forget Lara?
Sly turned around and kept walking forward. Landon and Ryker released a sigh of relief.
"I wouldn't be too relieved if I were you. Sly never forgets to settle a score and he will get even," Zaugustus said pouring cold water on them. "And when he does you both should blame no one but yourselves," he added.
They kept walking towards the mountain to find the prince. Now was a better time than any for Landon to pray to the force that brought him to Attilan to return him to earth. He found himself stuck between two powerful beasts that both wanted him dead. Both having good reasons for doing so.
He couldn't decide which enemy was worse, was it the prince who was still confused on whether to kill him or let him live. Or his jealous overprotective boyfriend who wanted to chew him alive because he thinks that the prince loved him. He would tell him that the prince hated him to the core but he didn't think that the man would believe a word that he would say.
He wished to get rid of the feelings he felt for the prince in his heart not to give the merman more reason to hate him. But love wasn't something that you can just command to leave you and it will obey and it took time to get over someone. Not to mention his rival was not someone he could defeat so easily.
He just hoped that he will long enough to get back to earth or just the palace and have the comfortable life that he wanted. The prince could be with his lover and leave him to live peacefully away from them. As long as he had all the luxury in the world he could live without the prince.
