Chapter 5: chapter 5: self discovery
After due consideration, I have come to the professional conclusion that my superpower, or 'quirk' as everyone called it, is quite marvelous.
In the now ten years I had lived in this strange world, I had discovered many things about this wondrous gift. For starters, I had learned that while my telekinesis was freakishly powerful and versatile in its own right, it was only one of many things I seemed to be capable of doing. In fact, even I did not know the full extent of my abilities.
Amongst my other skills, telekinesis was part of a grander power I possessed, a "main" quirk, if you will. It was something I dubbed "energy manipulation" for lack of a better term. I was able to manipulate, absorb and even transfer a mysterious type of energy. I discovered this energy essentially by accident.
I had just finished exercising, a habit I had developed out of anger at the powerlessness I had felt as a toddler. In an effort to regain some stamina, I sat down cross-legged, closed my eyes, and concentrated. I had read somewhere that this kind of meditation could accelerate stamina regeneration, so I tried it out. The effects were instant and enormous. Almost immediately, I felt a refreshing feeling come over me, like eating after a long day of hunger or a cold shower after sleep. I had not expected such instantaneous results and opened my eyes, only to be shocked. A thick, white mist permeated the surroundings, slowly entering my body through each of my pores. It was a unique feeling, unlike anything I had ever experienced before. With each wisp of this mist entering my body, I felt myself become more invigorated, and I felt as if my powers only grew.
To test this theory, I pointed my hands towards a nearby tree. The tree, which would usually take a bit of concentration to lift, came out of the ground without any problems, the usual kaleidoscopic hue surrounding it. It appeared my powers had grown quite significantly.
Witnessing the miraculous effects of this strange mist-like energy, I frantically absorbed as much as possible. I sat there for what felt like hours before feeling a sharp pang in my chest as my entire body started to ache. It seemed I had reached the limit of what my body could handle. Even still, this energy had miraculous effects. I was feeling better than I had felt in my entire life and even the one before that. And since I had nothing better to do, being a ten-year-old kid, I started experimenting, trying to find just how far my powers reached.
I found out a lot that day. The span of my abilities was quite enormous. Not only was I able to absorb energy from the surroundings and use it as my own, but I was also able to transfer energy to other objects. This ability had different uses, such as making cloth as rigid as steel and even controlling plants. The latter skill was quite challenging, perhaps the first difficult aspect of my power I had encountered. It needed more mastery, but it was sure to be a fearsome ability. I did not know how this energy transfer would affect other humans, but I was sure I would find out in due time. I also found out I could generate elements such as wind, fire, and electricity, but those skills were still in their infancy. Besides, there was no rush. I was still ten and had all the time in the world to master my skills.
From what I knew of the world, it appeared my quirk was freakishly versatile compared to the norm. It was perhaps the most versatile quirk in existence. However, as my knowledge of the world was still limited, I dared not make such assumptions. 'Perhaps I should ask Izuku,' I thought to myself, 'since he is probably the biggest quirk nerd in existence.'
I briefly considered having him accompany me on my training but quickly dismissed that thought, as I found him quite annoying. Perhaps in the future, when he has grown, both physically and mentally. For now, though, I decided to head back home. Our mother was a phenomenal cook, and I was hungry.
