Synopsis
Why does the King want to take the daughter of a country noble as his bride? Aren't there so many other women more qualified to marry him???
It has been a few months since the second Prince conquered the throne through a path of blood. One of his first decrees states he will marry the daughter of Duke Bursio, Veronica.
Yet, the girl is more than unwilling. And not only because of the ferocious reputation of the young tyrant.
She has a secret to keep, and becoming the Queen of Alba would be a risk she's reluctant to take. She is the Princess of Mages. Her powers shall be hidden, for the church persecutes anyone with some affinity with magical arts.
Avoiding the King's orders is impossible until she comes up with a plan: she can't get married twice, right? As such, she just has to find another man that will accept her and perform the sacred ceremony before the King has the chance to get his hands on her.
The guard at her door, Ignis, seems just the perfect person. They knew each other as children, and this unexpected reunion looks like the last opportunity fate has to offer.

I bend lower, approaching his lips. I keep a close distance from our mouths so that they don't touch, but not enough to avoid my breath tickling him when I talk.
«Can you swear you won't complain no matter what I do?»
«I can. I won't fight back against you, Veronica. I swear it on my honour and my life.»
«That's so tempting, you know? Letting me do whatever I want...» I pull the side of the shirt apart, detaching the two buttons I forgot to undo. «Are you sure I'm a little lamb who won't take advantage of your offer?»
I place a digit on his chest, making sure he feels the nail pressing. Since he doesn't react, I scratch him. Not too deep, just enough to make him realise I'm not joking.
No reaction at all. Not even a frown. Not a single word.
«Oh, I'm ready to test your honour tonight,» I whisper, dragging my hand on his stomach.

Yayyy Xiaohai is back with her new book! I've been waiting for this one. If you're the type of readers who want fluff, drama, and comedy combined into one, then this is your book! Waiting for more from Author sama!
From the author of 'Crazy Duke and Fallen Queen', she's here again for another wonderful historical writeup, this time set in a royal forceful marriage (but a totally different trope with its twists and turns) As of when this was reviewed (12 chapters) I can say there is a running gag where almost everyone can relate that they think Ignis is the supposed Tyrant King who is yet to make an appearance in Veronica's life other than sending gifts, and messages through maidens, guards and so forth. To annul the wedding she marries her old time friend Ignis who is a "guard/knight"– remember my air quote 👀 he might just be one or both 😅🧐. Anyways I can't wait to unravel the mystery behind those two, we'd just have to wait and find out. This was an interesting read and worth the read!

a wonderful read despite only having 3 chapters (as of recent). you immediately get to the part where FL fights for her right to decline the marriage. interesgingly, why am i getting attached to Ignis? is it bcoz i have an affinity for redhead characters who are on fire? why cant veronica escape discreetly with her magic? what is her magic and why cant her mother help her escape if she is Queen of the Mages? also, where is or King? i guess we just have to wait and find out in the next chaps🙈🙈🙈

The novel has a nice start, once you start reading it's impossible to stop. Though it only has a few chapters, it is very catchy and the characters are also well done. Well done. The story is a page turner. If I have one advice, that would be to change from << to double quotes for the new dialogue, and the new dialogue always must start on a new line. it's my pet peeve, may not be every one's, but do consider it unless you have a very specific and compelling reason to have used << & >>.
A very intriguing start. FL is forced to become queen and the ML is yet to appear but the story captivated me. She is a strong and willful character and she has an adorable father. Check out this book. You won't be disappointed.
I love how the story is very catchy from the first chapter, jumping directly in the plot without being too slow. the female male lead is relatable, a simple girl with simple desires and is willing to take Brave decisions only to reach her purpose. Can’t wait to read more❤️

I'm really enjoying this novel and I really like the author's writing style! I'm invested in the character developments of the couple and I'm so interested in the female lead and what she will bring with both her titles. The story is so interesting, quite a few unexpected surprises and I can tell it's only going to go up from here. I'm committed and reading a chapter every morning is now a part of my routine : )
The story is well crafted and easy to read. I am already in love with the characters. Veronica is fun to read while Ignis is sly yet adorable. I can't wait to see how their romance unfolds in future 💖

I enjoyed reading this, even though I don't like how author used Church and gods in the same context. I enjoyed the characters. I'm also glad that the ending was left as is, instead of dragging it out, creating more conflict just for the sake of more chapters.
Such a good book! Thought it would be tiresome withe the fl pov through the book, but the author is very skilled in storytelling. Also - a great plot!
Welcome to my second historical romance. From the synopsis, you might wonder: why is this historical if there's magic? I decided to put it into historical romance, at least for the time being, because the focus is more on the intrigues and politics than the magic. The fantasy part will be explored later, but still more as a political faction than a fantastic element. What can you find here? A strong fl with her own power and beliefs, a doting and cunning ml that would do anything for his wifey, a few mysteries about their motives and their blossoming love for each other! I hope you enjoy the read :D
