Chapter 4: Alistar

Arcania, Capital City of Alistar Kingdom (Pic)

Arcania City, Private Skyship station

"My brother?" asked a voice so arrogant and domineering he might be mistaken for a Prince. But his voice didn't have that high pitch of a child prince nor the rough voice of an ill King. It was smooth like the golden hair of his head styled in place that not even the harsh winds of the North Sea could tousle.

Alfonse Vormont, the handsome lord of the north. (Pic)

Second son of the almighty Duke Robertus Vormont.

The Vormont family held almost a third of power in the kingdom of Alistar, with them being second only in status next to the royal family.

Alfonse wore the formal red Arcane uniform without a single spec of dirt nor crinkled on its finely pressed fabric. He had only one accessory, a silver ring Armalest on his right middle finger.

Alfonse was cloaked in that air, the same invincible air that nobles have. But his aura was intensified with his fair skin and blue eyes. The purest of blue that put the sky and seas in its hallow. He appeared majestic, like he was the King and the rest of the world was his servants.

"M'Lord, this servant regrets to inform that Lord Leonel cannot make it as he cannot leave the court today," said a skinny man with white hair and beard. His head was low, spine bent, eyes on the ground, not daring to gaze even at Alfonse's shadow.

"Mmm . . ." Alfonse brows twitched. With one final swept of the place, he turned and boarded his ship.

On the other side.

"Hmp! Acting high and mighty as always," a man snorted, not hiding his contempt. His moss-green hair was cut short, highlighting the sharp glint of his emerald eyes.

His burning gaze could bore a hole at Alfonse's ship before he focused his eyes in front of his siblings. The hardness of his features melted at the sight of his younger brother and sister.

Percival Galant, the chivalrous gentleman of the north. (Pic)

The eldest son of Baron Orson Galant.

In the past, house Galant were just poor farmers only rising to power towards the status of Baron when Orson Galant became the left advisor of the King of Alistar. A first in Alistar history.

If not to quill an impending revolt, there wouldn't be a commoner tainting the royals' court. Or so everyone says. But Orson's knowledge regarding the common folks greatly pleased the King and his favored son-in-law.

But so what if the King favored his father? Percival's deep bone hatred towards the nobles didn't diminish one bit.

Percival closed his eyes and hugged his brother and sister before motioning for the maids to take them home. He then turned towards his father's privately owned skyship that was gifted to their family from the King of Alistar himself.

A single skyship could buy a small village, especially those that were custom made. That was how much the King of Alistar significantly favored Orson Galant.

Meanwhile, not far from where Alfonse and Percival were, a private skyship of the latest model owned by the Deux family stood out amongst the rest. Unlike ordinary skyships made of wood and sewn fabrics, here was made of metal and ores of the highest quality.

Near the entrance stood a girl, haughty and pompous. Her white hair was tied in a ponytail giving shape to her small face and striking silver eyes. She was a beauty, yet it was shrouded in the smoke of pride and arrogance.

Arca Deux, the Armalest Princess. (Pic)

Don informal red uniform of Arcane academy with an Armalest holster hugging both her thighs and a communication type Armalest on her right arm. She clutched the stone pendant on her neck before hiding it inside her shirt. The necklace was valuable and not sold in the market. She couldn't afford to lose it . . . or so she was told.

She waited a little, toes tapping against the ground, arms folding on her chest. In her sight, she caught her guns secured in their holster. Doubt was rare, but it was creeping, little by little.

Armalest in the shape of weapons was nothing new, but a student of Arcane academy wielding Armalest weapon was a first. Arcane academy only accepted students who could absorb arcane energy into their bodies. A girl like her who clearly couldn't and had to rely on weapons was indeed not welcome within its walls.

She bet it was her mother.

Arca sighed in a silent breath. This thought kept rewinding in her mind. The Armalest was like a conduit while the arcane stone regulated the energy. Without the other, one cannot unleash any arcane arts. All the academy students only have accessory types Armalest as they could form their weapons anytime, anywhere.

Those using weapon-type Armalest like her were people who couldn't absorb arcane energy and didn't have an affinity with any elements. Thus, they could only rely on arcane stones to power up their Armalest weapons.

But so what? She was Arca Deux. The only daughter of Emelia Deux which had a tie to the royal family and had an extraordinary background. To have Arcane academy bent its rules just for her was a testament to her family's might.

"My mother?" Arca asked, but she knew the answer.

"M'Lady, the Madam, is unable to leave her work due to her busy schedule," replied a voice, twinkling and raspy. It came from a woman cloaked in a maid uniform.

Arca puffed a knowing breath before she flipped her long white hair and stormed into her airship.
