Chapter 45: Hail of Blades
Luckas left hand quickly formed seals while his right hand held Treachery, he felt like the world outside the bear, Lion didn't exist at all. While he trained this spell Luckas finally understood why Philips gave him the daggers, the person who made this technique used daggers too, so most of the spells are suited to someone who uses them;
Luckas left hand rapidly completed the seals, with the control augments he choose he could control his Qi with ease so casting spells was easy for him. As Luckas finished the last seal, he threw Treachery into the sky.
-" HAIL OF BLADES!." Luckas voice rang as his dagger flew into the sky.
Byrth was surprised as he saw the speed Luckas cast his spell, when he cast the Setting Sun Strike earlier he took around twenty seconds to cast it, but, Luckas cast his spell in less than five, his even required seals which made the technique even more complicated to cast.
Before the bear could reach Lion with his paws, tens of black daggers started falling on the bear, the bear tried to ignore the strange attack, but suddenly when a golden dagger pierced his back, the bear started to lose control of his internal energy.
Luckas choose to cast this spell using Treachery as his weapon because of this effect, wounds caused by Treachery would cause the internal energy of the victim to go berserk. While Treachery wasn't an elemental weapon, just this enchantment made her way too valuable to him, especially when he learned Hail of Blades which allowed him to strike at a distance.
Luckas took advantage of the bear losing control of his energy and dashed towards him, Lion who was taking distance from the bear as it stopped his attack turned back when he saw Luckas rushing in.
At first, he wanted to run away, but seeing that the young man who helped him was planning on finishing the battle now, he too stayed and prepared to slash the bear.
Lion sword shone with a bright white light, as he cast the White Deer Slash, a common technique from the army. Luckas was just under the bear's neck when Lion slash hit the Bear's front leg.
The already struggling bear received the attack and gave a loud cry as he saw Luckas jumping towards his throat. Luckas held Moonlit Reaver and activated it with Qi, as the Qi reached it, the already sharp dagger gleamed with an exquisite glint, air condensed around the dagger and formed an extended blade.
The air blade slashed the Bear's neck like butter only stopping mid-way through it. The bear wanted to growl like usual, but only blood came from his mouth.
Byrth watched as Luckas finished the beast in complete surprise, Luckas now didn't look anything like the one of yesterday, the control of his abilities and QI was in another level, Byrth shock suddenly turned into anger as he thought that Luckas was taking easy on him and letting him win.
Byrth was about to pester Luckas about what happened when Mylon approached Luckas.
-" Thank you for saving Lion" Mylon bowed to Luckas with emotion in his eyes, Lion and Darius were younger than him and he was responsible for them since they joined the army, he saw the two as his young brothers.
As Mylon thanked Luckas, Lion and Darius bowed to him too, Luckas felt awkward, he thought that they didn't need to thank him as they all fought together.
-" Hey, what's with all that? We are companions, i just did what i should." Luckas waved his hand as he tried to dismiss their gratitude.
Byrth watched it all with a smile, he decided to ask if Luckas was letting him win after everyone was less emotional. Byrth decided to go back to the camp, as they already had meet danger, but Mylon wanted to finish the trip.
He now knew that even if Luckas cultivation was relatively low, he still could hold himself in battle, so they were more confident in future encounters. Luckas and Byrth accepted to continue the trip as all the guards insisted on completing the trip.
Luckas and Byrth didn't stay inside the carriage for the rest of the trip and traveled with Darius while he guided the carriage. They arrived in Byrth village soon after the battle, Mylon and the rest decided to rest near the carriage while Byrth and Luckas explored the carriage.
Byrth gazed at the burned wooden houses with sad eyes, his memories of the village passed through his mind, from his solitary childhood to the day an unknown elder gave him a cultivation technique
While things suddenly worked out, he couldn't help to miss the days he spent here. Byrth walked through every corner of the village as he remembered his now seemingly distant daily life, he continued walking around almost like a lost soul haunting an abandoned house until he reached the village square.
A few decomposed bodies still lingered there, Byrth looked at them emotionally, when Dale and his bandits attacked, a few villagers died fighting them. Luckas could tell what Byrth was thinking.
-" Want to bury them?" Byrth just nodded as Luckas asked, he found two shovels near Jothyr's backyard and came back.
AS the two finished the graves, Luckas watched Byrth as he looked determinedly at his old village, after a few minutes in complete silence they walked back to Jothyr's house, Byrth wanted to come here to get a few belongings, he passed in Ballam, and Jonathan and Maria house too.
-" Are you guys done?" Mylon asked as he saw Luckas and Byrth come back with a few bags.
-" Yes, I got everything, thank you for accompanying us." Byrth had a somber mood, this visit left a heavy mark on his mind.
