Chapter 39: UNLOCK THAT POWER
"Don't worry ethan.i know you're scared and worried but you have no reason to be. I'll guide you. It's why I'm here. Saying that,why are we silly dallying?" Hermes asked no one in particular. "Please go change in that room there. You'll find lose and flexible clothing in there. Change into one and come back. Don't forget to leave your shoe behind as well. " Hermes said as Ethan left to go in the direction he had pointed out. It was a door that was a little to Hermes' right. Ethan went into the room and came out some few minutes later in one of those martial arts uniform complete with a belt he had picked randomly and bare foot as well.
Ethan's uniform was white in colour with yellow streaks adorning the collar,the sleeves and the sides of his trouser. The belt Ethan had picked was yellow in colour as well. He had picked that belt simply because it went great with the uniform and not because he knew or cared about the tank the belt stood for. Hermes saw the belt but also didn't care. He wasn't here to teach the boy karate. "You look good", Hermes complimented a non smiling Ethan. "Today I'll tell you what the unique powers of each protector was so that you will be aware just what powers to expect when we finally unlock the power within the 'eye of the gods'. As for combat skills,we will start tomorrow. Combat lessons will be tough since I intend to teach you a mix of all martial arts known by mortals as well as the Protector's own Martial arts." Hermes told an excited Ethan.
"So Hermes,when exactly are we gonna unlock this power in my chunky necklace?" Ethan couldn't help but ask. "Why, today of course. The earlier you get your powers the better." Hermes said with a look at Ethan who was struggling to bottle his excitement. "Alright,let's start. Did you do the research I asked you to do yesterday?", Hermes asked Ethan who nodded. "Good,what did you learn?" Hermes asked. "A lot actually. I learnt that you're a greek god with the power of speed. And that.." "wait...A greek god? That makes it sound like we the Protectors were only Protecting the greeks. We've been Protecting everyone since time immemorial. " Hermes interrupted Ethan. "Er...okay. so what about the Egyptian gods?, Apparently they were around before you or the greeks." Ethan asked in confusion. "Aah...I see where your confusion is coming from. You think there are other gods for other cultures,no?" Hermes asked in amusement. Ethan nodded as he answered. "Yh, that was what my research brought up.". "I should have known you'll come across that bullshit written by mortals. I don't blame you for your mistake. But take it from me today,there are no others out there like me and my siblings. We've been around for soo long and we've never met others like us out of our family. The Egyptians were worshipping us under different names just like other cultures were. That is the fact." Hermes informed Ethan who didn't even know how to react. He had already been awed so many times today,the shock was beginning to just bounce off him now."Er.. Hermes, if you're not only for the greeks then why do you still use the names they gave you?" Ethan asked. "The greeks were a lovely bunch who we really grew fond of. We even used to visit them more than the other mortals in other places. About the name, who says they named us? After being named many times by different groups,we just grew tired of being called foreign names so when the greeks emerged,we told them our real names and the real names of the others." Hermes explained to Ethan who just nodded.
"Alright, let's talk the Protectors and their powers. Since you did your research you know that Zeus is the king of all us Protectors. He was the very first Protector and has the power of lightening. He's also blessed with raw strength so you should expect quite some strength when you get his power. The next person is Hera,the wife of Zeus. It is said that she's very powerful but no one really knows her power. I've never seen her use it before. Not even once. ", Hermes said with a thoughtful look. "The next person is Hephaestus. Hephaestus was our master craftsman who had the ability of fire and the power of creativity. Next is Ares,the war god. Ares is one of the strongest Protectors we have. He has perfect combat skills,a master of weapons who can summon and use any weapon of his choice any how he pleases. He's also a master tactician and strategist. Ares,female version is Athena,the war goddess and also goddess of wisdom. Athena can do anything Ares can and is also very wise. Expect me to ask you advice from time to time when we unlock this power. Now let's talk of Artemis. She's the goddess of the hunt,the Protector of young girls and also the Protector of animals. She's a skillful hunter and has the power to attract and talk to animals." Ethan was having a large smile on his face which kept growing bigger and bigger as Hermes talked. Hermes looked at the smiling boy and just shook his head.kids,he thought.
"Apollo is the god of the sun. He can manipulate the sun to an extent. I've seen him shoot rays as well as burn someone with the sun's power. Demeter is the goddess of harvest. She has the power to control all green life and the earth to a degree. Aphrodite is the goddess of love. With her power you will be able to charm anyone you want and control them.it may sound petty but you'll be surprised the number of trouble she has gotten us out of by charming a fool here or there. Dionysus is the god of wine. Honestly I don't know what to say about this guy and his power so let's go to Poseidon. The god of the sea. A bad tempered man who has the power of aqua manipulation. Contrary to what you read wherever.poseidon can control all water and not just the sea. Then there is me, Hermes. The god of trade,wealth and night workers. No..don't even mention thieves here. They're only night workers. I don't even know why that title would be given to me simply because I was having fun back in the days. Let's just get on with unlocking your power.", Hermes said in slight annoyance. Ethan thought he looked pretty funny how he was refusing to mention his own title but he couldn't dwell on it for long.
"I'll advise you to sit. I don't know exactly what's going to happen when we unlock this power. You could faint and end up hitting your head or something." Hermes said and proceeded to sit in a lotus position right in the middle of the dojo. Ethan sat across from him, imitating the Protectors sitting position. "Now close your eyes and repeat after me", Hermes instructed. Ethan closed his eyes and waited for Hermes to start saying whatever was needed to unlock the power in the 'eye of the gods'.
