Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Nymeria:

No, no, no crap. The blood-soaked man who was my mate knew the beta. How was I supposed to survive this? I knew I didn't have many choices. I jumped back in through my window, transforming back quickly.

I looked around my room. I needed to leave. I shoved my clothing into a plastic shopping bag and left it on my bed as I transformed into my wolf, grabbing the bag with my teeth and jumping back out the window, leaving only a note saying *I'm sorry. Good bye/Ria* on Emyra's nightstand.

Vyn was strongly disapproving of my choice, but stayed silent as ever. Her sadness and fear weighed my steps as I ran towards pack borders, at any chance of escaping time repeating itself. A familiar face flashed in my mind. A face I had never managed to forget even during the centuries I had been locked in darkness. It couldn't repeat itself- for I would not survive it once again.

I started to see the pack border growing closer, the river that marked the end of the pack grounds so close I could hear it rumbling and fizzing with the current.

I sped up even more in hopes of making the large jump over the river, I could smell the algae from it mixing with the scent of fresh grass and pine trees. Twenty meters (65 feet & seven inches) from the river I suddenly saw guards speeding my way. *Do they know?* The thought clouded my mind as I realized I wouldn't reach the river in time. I drew to a halt as two guards stood before me, blocking my path to the river. It was at times like this that I wished that we could growl. I bared my teeth at the two of them, and they both launched into motion.

Rowan

I was still sitting in Seth's office when she came in. A small curvy maid with tight dark curls and a worried expression on her face. Her green eyes scanned the room quickly before dropping to her knees.

All three of us stared at her in shock as she said: "P- permission to speak." Seth collected himself quickly, asking "Name?" She looked up at him. "Emyra Parkinson." She stated "Second grade maid of section C of the pack house." I nodded. "Stand." She refused, remaining on her knees. "P- permission to speak." She asked again. "Speak." I said.

"T-the white wolf." She started, and my entire being shook for just a second in excitement. She looked between Seth and I before pressing her forehead to the ground. "Please spare her! I'm sure she didn't mean to upset anyone!" Oh. I smiled. She had good friends clearly.

"Stand." I ordered. This time she did, brushing off invisible dust from her apron. "Her name?" I asked. She flinched. Scared, but not for herself. She looked at the floor, determined to keep her silence.

"Tell me my mates name." She looked up, shock in her eyes. "M-mate? You- mate? Ria?" Ria. The word echoed in my head. "Is that her name?" I asked, standing up out of the chair I had spent the morning lounging in.

She looked at me but nodded slowly. "Nymeria." I was about to ask more as I heard growling from outside. Amy, standing by the window's mouth was agape. "What?" I asked as I made my way over. Outside stood five wolves. Four my guards, circling the fifth, white wolf. Her white fur was heavily bloodied in several places. She looked wild, the picture of a warrior as she bared her teeth at the guards, most of them bloodier than her. "Nymeria!" The dark-haired maid whose name I had quickly forgotten exclaimed, with horror in her voice. My mate looked towards us, to me, and growled silently. Azariah was desperately trying to communicate, but she seemed to shut us out.

My guards had all stopped, desperately trying to figure out what to do. She pulled over a bag off the ground, never stopping eye contact with me as she pulled out a large piece of fabric, probably a blanket, and threw it up over herself as she changed. I watched as she shrank under the fabric, saw her fumble for a short moment before she pulled it off her head, wearing the fabric as a makeshift dress. The black fabric made her pale skin look even paler, Her gorgeous fire-colored hair falling to her waist, Blood was falling over her face from a bash to her forehead, and she had cuts and scratches all over her bare arms, the entirety of me shuddered as she looked at me. Unflinching Amber eyes. Suddenly she seemed to stop. She looked around, her eyes flickering between red and amber, communicating with her wolf. When she looked at me again, it was as though the warrior had been blown out of her, she looked scared. It was a struggle not to rush down to her, to touch her, protect her. She looked around again, my guards still puzzled until ones eyes seemed to shine up. *Luna.* The word echoed through the pack link, and only the guards surrounding her seemed to understand, as the pack link went loud, asking questions. She shook her head, fear in her eyes. She looked at me again and swallowed. She was shaking heavily as she slowly lowered her head in submission. I couldn't put together what was happening. Azariah was scared and angry and sad that her wolf wasn't answering, afraid of her silence.
