Chapter 20: Class Trouble

"Do you not know my title? I am the forsaken tamer. Before I was known as other things. That is what I was called. Do you know why? My village was left to fend off the beasts alone. The families that said they would support the second city being built nearby gave up. My entire family tree was eaten alive. My friends. My people." The room shook slightly as headmaster Markus stopped forward toward Clark.

"Not a single family, person, or beast deserves my loyalty. I dragged myself from the ashes and found the light on my own. This entire academy is impartial today because of my efforts. That old man did his work to establish strong foundations. In my years here I plucked the weeds." Markus was face to face with Clark. His point coming across clearly.

"You don't need to worry about me. My students are all that matters. My family is long passed away. I have a daughter out and about in a nearby city but my family is full of people like me. Alone and sporadic. I just happen to like it here." Alexander was not one to betray trust and the small look of calm to Clark was everything he needed.

"Then I will accept this. Devi, meet your brother Crim." In the moment that Devi showed himself, Clark could see that he had become slightly more defined. The roundness of his shape was still there making him look cartoonish. But the mouth had a deeper dark coloration. He was growing.

"A ghost… they exist. I thought undead type monsters were limited to skeletons or zombified beasts." Headmaster Markus was astounded. For a student to have such a spirit beast was terrifying. It had more potential than he could speak of.

"Now I understand what happened to the lantern flies. They were beaten by this invisible…well, devil. Now I see why you named it that." Alexander watched Devi interact with Crim. The pair were both very interested in the other. Between them, Crim knew that Devi was the stronger. But Devi still respected that Crim had the potential to rival him.

The headmaster and mentor stood silently watching the two beasts as if they were something neither had imagined. They barely caught Clark when he fell to his side unconscious. The bonding of a new beast paired with the fact that he had been pushing himself for the past week caught up with him.

"I will ensure that there are proper materials available for him to earn. The writings in the library may have some that we can find for his ghost." Markus spoke with some awe still remaining. Devi and Crim were moving around Clark to guard him.

"There are a few odd items I have come across in my years that he may be able to use. For now, I will bring him to his dormitory. He has classes starting tomorrow. It will be important for him to show that he isn't some weak stepping stone. I have higher hopes than that little girl I trained from the Mane family. She found a good student for me. I will send her a letter." Alexander picked up Clark while Devi became invisible and Crim followed behind. They knew that Alexander was only helping.

A few hours passed by after Clark had returned to his room. He felt that his body had become foreign to him. The real reason for this was the energy from Crim still adjusting to him. His body was trying to grow to fit the higher amount of energy that now equaled his physique that he had trained so harshly.

After noticing he had returned to his room he found that Crim was curled up waiting for him. Clark ilently thnks theheadmasterand his mentor. "You don't seem to sleep or need to eat. But don't worry. I will find things that you can eat to get stronger." The system had ensured that he knew all of the materials that Crim needed.

After thinking of what he needed, Clark waited for the system to respond, 'The most common material for refining a dragon's essence is called dragon scale grass. It is used for many growth potions that can increase endurance.'

"We will get you a bundle of dragon scale grass. I have some small fire crystals to sell. We can spend our gold on you." An angry laughter came from Devi when Clark said this.

"Come on, you know I have the black blood drops for you. Here, eat it now." Clark turned the vial in to Devi's ghostly mouth.

The moment a single drop fell in to the void that was Devi's mouth, he began to change. The normally active Devi became a spotless white ball of ghostly energy floating in the center of the room. Clark could tell he was happy but wasn't sure what was happening otherwise.

' little spirit- mythical

This little spirit is currently undergoing an awakening. The skill, spirit surge is being awakened through the assimilation of black blood. The spirit surge skill allows the little spirit to change their size and increases their attack. They become a devastating spiritual attacker capable of shredding their enemies using their skills.'

Clark could only clench his fists in victory. He was more than happy to see that Devi would get another skill. One that would ensure he was safe. One that would more than trump anyone that dared to look down on him. One that would deal with foolish enemies that abused their power.

"Come here Crim. we can meditate while we wait to go to our first classes." Clark felt he had slept enough. He wanted to adjust to the way he felt and strengthen his foundations.

Finding a map of campus on his table was enough for him to know that Alexander had understood that he had interrupted the tour. Clark was glad to find that he could easily get to his first class.

Devi was slightly larger but appeared to more easily turn invisible. Even Clark had a hard time sensing where he was after he had woken up. This change was one of many that Clark was sure he would find over the next few days.

Crim was calm and followed Clark like a lost puppy. It was clear that Crim was going to be less emotional than Devi. Part of it might be that Crim was technically a slime and not the same as another living being. However, to everyone else that Calrk passed, Crim was a hatchling dragon.

The building set aside for classrooms was equally as large as the main building with the headmaster's office. It had many specific rooms large enough for most tamed beasts. This was specifically because not everyone would be able to open a taming space using their energy.

"Come in now and get your seats! I am about to begin the lecture!" The female professor that yelled at the students was standing at a large pedestal. She seemed ready to start the class while some straggling first years students made it in.

Maria was one of the last to find her way and silently moved to sit next to Clark. He didn't say a word while Maria did the same. Their professor was about to speak. "Now, I am professor Wright. I will be your general studies professor during your first year. First things first. You are in no way to battle in my classroom unless you challenge a student directly. I am not going to tolerate fooling around." The professors had every right to do what they deemed fit within their classroom.

"If that's the case, I want to challenge whoever came in first for our years' acceptance. That lucky bastard deserves to be taken down a notch." The arrogant boy that spoke up had no idea who Clark was. He and his sharp tusked boar spirit beast were bouncing with energy.

"That would be me. Professor Wright, I will accept this challenge. I could use some morning exercise."
