Chapter 79: Hunter (1)

'Finally... we've arrived.' Aurora thought as she glanced down from the trees. She was well concealed within the trees. Her presence was almost undetectable.

The scouting team had failed to notice the predator trailing behind them and led them straight to their den. It had been their home for years, but now it was just a mousetrap and they were the mice. Aurora initially thought it would be difficult for her to follow them. However, it proved to be a simple task by using the trees as not only cover, but a way to keep an eye on them, and finally, she was there.

From the outside, the entrance to the den was a small cave, but this cave was well-concealed by the snow and Rocky Mountain it belonged to. If you had walked past it, there was a high chance you'd miss it entirely and continue on, not knowing you were only a few feet away from their den.

'If I hadn't followed the scouting team back to their den, I would've had a hard time finding their den, or even if I had found it, I wouldn't think it was anything special.' Aurora thought.

The cave looked like an empty cave you would see if you went hiking in the woods, so even if you did see it, you'd assume it was just a normal empty cave and continue on without knowing it was the den of the snow wolves.

The scouting team had already entered the den by now, while Aurora continued to observe from atop one of the trees.

'There are around 90 snow wolves within the den, each varying in level. If my level hadn't been reduced to 1, I would've already stormed into the cave and slaughtered them, but if I did that now, I would die from the number of them and with them having a higher level.' Aurora sighed helplessly, 'I have no choice but to slowly reduce their numbers by killing the ones that exit the cave.'

Aurora knew the two options the boss of the snow wolves had: the first option was to order all the snow wolves to remain inside, but that wouldn't last long with them eventually having to venture out for food, and the second option was to send out scouts either in quantity or quality to deal with this unknown enemy and obtain food.

She also knew that snow wolves wouldn't do the first option because they didn't see or know the strength of their enemy, leaving only the second option.

'Now all I have to do is wait for them to come running to their killer.' Aurora thought, sitting down on the branch. She closed her eyes and fell asleep. But if the wolves left the cave, she would be immediately woken up by Alexa.

It took a day for them to send out a scouting team, giving Aurora enough time to sleep, which she enjoyed.

For the last hour, she had been trailing 15 snow wolves, comprised of eight snow wolves leveled between 4-10, with the remaining seven being above level 10. They had found some prey of their own, and Aurora wasn't going to ignore this chance to attack.

There were five ice elks that trailed off from the rest of their herd, leaving them stranded with no idea where the herd went off to. Now, they were the prey of the snow wolves, but they wouldn't go down without a fight.

10 meters above the ice elks and snow wolves stood a young girl who had black hair and azure eyes. She was none other than Aurora, who had her eyes focused on the confrontation below her.

'I know this is all for your own survival, but I'll be forfeiting all of your lives.'

The snow wolves, who had already surrounded the elks, lunged at them, aiming to dig their claws into them and knock them off their feet, but unlike in real life, where the only defense of an elk is outrunning their predator, they could now use their high proficiency in ice magic against their predators.

Spikes shot up from beneath the leading snow wolves, piercing the abdomens of three snow wolves, followed by a wall that was cast to block the other attacks.

Using this opening given by the dead snow wolves, the five elk took this chance to make their escape.

'This'll make hunting easier now that they'll be chasing the elks. The only problem is, I have to make sure I don't get dragged behind.' Aurora thought, seeing as the snow wolves had left to hunt the elks.

She knew that she would have to loot the three snow wolf bodies later. She sprinted through the trees, trailing behind the wolves, soon finding three wolves who had lagged behind due to their lower agility than the others.

Beneath the three snow wolves, spikes erupted, piercing their abdomens, but one survived and fled at greater speeds. With two already dead, she ignored their corpses and caught up to the one that survived.

She jumped from the tree, her foot planted into the head of the snow wolf, causing it to lose balance and fall to the ground. Without wasting time, she formed a knife-sized ice thorn and stabbed it into its temple.

'It'd be better if I could create better weapons than a thorn, but those are too complex for tier 1 ice magic.' She leapt off the corpse and continued following them from the trees.

A few hours passed, and she had killed all the remaining ice elk and snow wolves. She now sat on one of the wolves' corpses that was less bloody than the others.
