Synopsis
Princess Daphne wanted to become a widow. Or she would die trying.
On the marriage proposal drafted on human flesh and written with fresh blood, the Northern King had made himself quite clear: the princess would marry, not as a queen but the lowest of concubines, not in a carriage but within a sealed coffin, not to be celebrated but to be paraded around as a war prize. If those terms were violated, he would personally prepare a grave for each and every one of her citizens.
Some said the Northern King had slaughtered his entire family and signed a contract with hell itself. All Daphne wanted to do was to send him back there to pay for his crimes.
The night of their wedding, she plunged her silver dagger squarely into his chest, waiting for the final heartbeat that never sounded. Only then did she realize, perhaps too late, that the heart of the Northern King never beat in the first place.

She walked with resolution towards the man waiting in the shadows. Her steps were steady, and step by step, her fingers reached for her dress buttons, undoing them.
"Your Highness, no!"
Despite her nanny's shrill shrieks, she only continued, untying each of the knots that bound her chest.
For a split second, or perhaps it was her imagination, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes.
"What are you doing?" His voice was slightly hoarse as he stared at her white swanlike neck. His vision traveled downward, but he only jerked his face away.
"There will not be war." Her skin tingled from the cold, and she could no longer tell if it was from just the frill night temperature or the proximity to him. "Do you hear me? There will not be a war."
He closed the gap between the two of them, reaching out for her face.
Instinctively, she stepped backward, anticipating his foul touch. But biting the inner sides of her cheek, she reminded herself that she had already decided to give up her honor. This is for the kingdom, she thought as she took a deep breath.
A slender finger quickly swept a tear away from her cheek, a tear she didn't even know was there. And then he turned away, his back towards her.
"I want a princess, not some cheap girl willing to give herself away so easily." He put his hand to his forehead in disappointment. "That takes away from the fun of it all."
Her lips trembled, and her body shivered. "There will not be a war."
"If Your Highness agrees to my terms, then indeed, there will not be a war." He tossed his fur cloak towards her. "Hurry and get dressed. Because if you keep me waiting, I might just change my mind. According to you, I am a barbarian after all, and who knows what savages might do?"

Hi Tangerqueen! Can I just say how much I hate your male lead 😂 I truly wish I transmigrated in your story just to punish him and take poor Daphne away. Okay, on serious note, the writing skill is amazing, I see no glaring flaws. Thre plots flow smoothly and the world description is just right. The poor MC is a princess who is left alone to defend her kingdom and is forced to marry a barbarian king that completely lives up to his title if not more. Unlike most forced marriage where the chemistry between the forced parties is apparent, in this story at least the female MC is clearly repulsed by the male lead. It will be interesting to know why the male lead is so weirdly wired. I suspect abuse and neglect. On the other side he tries so hard to conceal his liking for the MC, who is, let's be honest, an absolute dear! The road to happiness is long-winded, but I hope the male lead gets some logic smacked into his head, eventually. At this point he so doesn't deserve Daphne 😡😡😡 Very much recommended for kingdom stories fans who like to read about forced marriage, awesome female MC and insufferable ML who hopefully! One day! Becomes someone who deserves to kiss the MC's boots ❤❤❤
Author's Review 2.0 TLDR: Slowburn Strong and clever FL (from the start, Daphne's goal is clear... she wants to kill the Northern King --> seeing how hot and handsome he may be does not change that) Possessive ML with a dark past (he knows that her "love" is a trap, but he can't stop himself from jumping in) No glorification of r*pe or abuse --- I wanted to make clear that this will not be a novel where the FL immediately falls heads over heels for a ML who destroyed her kingdom and hurt her. If you are looking for a quick romance under the guise of princesses and demons, this story will not satisfy those expectations. Daphne will slowly understand the Northern King's dark past and discover what turned him into the demon he is today. But this pity does not necessarily directly translate into love. At the same time, just because the Northern King falls in love with Daphne does not justify the horrible actions he has already committed, and they are both aware of that. Possessiveness is not healthy for a relationship, and you are your own best savior. Love can complete and mend your life, but it cannot be your entire life. That is the purpose of this story, so if you are looking for a tale where romance is 100% of the chapters, please do not be disappointed when you find that it is not (a large part is exploring the danger of stereotypes and misunderstandings, tensions between kingdoms, and the sadness of court intrigues) Quoting Daphne: “Since you were truthful to me, I wanted to be honest with you as well. If you were hoping I would suddenly forgive you and love you after today, I don’t think I ever will be able to. No matter what you do, you will never be able to conquer me. You may break my physical body with force, but you will never ever own and possess my mind.” (Chapter 45) --- I just wanted to say thank you so much for anyone who has supported me so far. I've never finished a story here on Webnovel before, but I swear I will do everything to make this my first. A comment or vote really goes a long way, and they really do brighten up my day.
Hiii author !! so here I am finally with my review for your book !! first of all , I am already in love with female lead of this book and wanted to murder the ML by my own two hands . The book is the perfect blend of story and the play of words , which won't let you leave without the anxiety of what's going to happen next !! And did I mention about the excellent grammar and word choice ?? Hence here I am waiting for the next update !! <3
it got me hooked up a hundred percent 💯, and the fact that I want to know the real truth about the king and how things are going to end up in the future. I highly recommend 💯.

Okay hear me out, this story is really nice. I'm not sure if it was because I enjoy this genre or because of how the author introduces each character, but I was intrigued from the first chapter. I'm in love with Daphne! Also, the author's description of each scenario deserves special praise; it was so comprehensive that you could almost see what was unfolding. While I haven't finished reading all the chapters yet, I believe this book deserves a review. Author writes in a very engaging way. The interactions between the Northern King and Eversun Princess are enthralling and intriguing. I'm really interested to find out what good secret is. I feel like there's something secret hidden behind that heartless chest👀 Not often I find a FL book that catches my attention with all the small, well done details and tiny actions that help develop the characters and make one not want to stop reading the book.

Okay wow!!! I'm awestruck! This book is within the genre I read most and despite all the books I've read, this is one of the books that had reached the top of the ladder. The depiction. The world building! The emotional build up, the tension and all is just too much to keep you forever intoxicated. Tangerqueen, I'm gonna keep reading this! My curiosity has been raised. Responsible ones are always hated. What is gonna happen to the princess? Will she revenge or at last fall in love with the heartless king? Please don't divert the plot only on romance. Waiting for more updates .

I honestly just wanted to see how far I could get entering WSA since I've never tried joining before ^-^ Writing Quality: I try to keep grammar mistakes at a minimum, but if you see something that doesn't really make sense, please point it out! Stability of Updates: I'm going to be completely honest, but my will to write is completely proportional to the support I get ;-; Your comment and votes could really really make my day! On the bright side, I do have a stockpile for this story, so look forward to double daily updates for the first week and then daily updates after that! Story Development: I tried to speed up the pacing for this story (so it will be faster than most of my other ones). However, I tend to pay more attention to detail than most, so just know that most words are intended to have a deeper meaning :D Character Design: The characters aren't perfect, and their choices are sometimes questionable. However, they're designed that way to be realistic. I want them to seem human, so they won't be the perfect FL/ML that you might find somewhere else. World Background: There are lots of hidden doors waiting to be opened :D
