Chapter 10: Chapter 10 new abilities

Daniel struggled to open his eyes after the memory ended. He didn't detect any light, clouds, or trees, just utter darkness. He rose to his feet and took a breath of air, but he didn't sense it. So he searched around with his hand in an attempt to find a firm surface but was unsuccessful.

"Where am I? I'm still on the memory?" He pondered, his face filled with perplexity.

He repeatedly turned around to find something but only darkness greeted him. After a few seconds, a red beam suddenly erupted 15 meters distant from him, drawing his immediate attention.

Daniel approached it cautiously while maintaining his combat stance. Daniel didn't sense anything odd during the first few seconds of his stroll, but halfway through the beam, he noticed his body was moving very sluggish. He dropped to his knees but he still stood up and continue advancing since he felt like something was calling him in the beam.

He eventually arrived in front of the beam and carefully inspected it while maintaining his distance. The beam had a diamond-like shape, and Joel suddenly sensed a movement inside the beam. So he leaned closer and was shocked by what he witnessed.

The beam was loaded with various colors that clashed against one another. Uncertain of why Daniel experienced a brief sting of nostalgia as though something had sneaked into his heart without him knowing.

Daniel was horrified when an eyeball suddenly formed on the beam, he punched the eyeball without hesitation. But his blow was only absorbed by an impenetrable black barrier. The eyeball intensely quivered and stared at him, causing all his fur to stand up as he took a step back.

The eye gradually became larger and brighter. As soon as he sensed something wasn't right, Daniel immediately rushed out to the scene. But before he could travel too far, a black sphere of energy engulfed him from head to toe.

His ears were abruptly struck by a familiar voice asking, "A-Are you the one who will help me?"

When Daniel turned around, he saw Joel staring at him with lifeless eyes. But Daniel didn't give Joel attention and searched for the strange eye but was unsuccessful. He then turned back to face Joel. "Are you the strange eye?"

Joel responded, "No, I wasn't the eye." But as Daniel continued to observe Joel's eyes, the further he noticed the flaming conflicting emotions within those eyes.

Daniel questioned, "Are you attempting to act, though? I can see it in your eyes." Joel's eyes widened at those phrases crossed his ears, and a tear started to slide down his cheek. Joel begged Daniel to take vengeance as he hugged his feet. "Pls, pls, avenge me," he begged.

Daniel was gazing at Joel when he unexpectedly saw his face on Joel's face. After a brief moment of being shocked, he signed deeply. "So this is how that old bloke felt when I begged with him, huh?" He thought.

Joel's bow had now reached the floor as he begged. "Pls, I'll do everything, pls, pls!" Daniel scratched his head In confusion because he was torn between the two possibilities.

First, when he was reincarnated, his major goal was to use his knowledge on earth to make a lot of money and try everything that this world can offer without creating any unnecessary enemies or conflicts.

However, Daniel had to watch Joel's entire memory in order to survive. As a result, Daniel felt as though he had lived a different existence; he felt what Joel endured when he left the orphanage as though it had lived Joel's entire life.

Consequently, making decisions was challenging. Daniel shut his eyes and sat down on the floor as he considered his best course of action, saying, "I'll think about it, Joel."

Daniel finally opened his eyes after a short while, and answered Joel, "So I'm the one who will make your revenge huh? Even though I wanted to live a normal life, I can't forgive myself for turning blind. I remember all of them and I will hunt them down so please rest now Joel," Daniel said with a bitter expression engraved across his face.

Joel made a small bow and smiled. He said, "Thank you," before his corpse started to split and slowly decomposed. Before Joel completely disintegrated into dust Daniel managed to give Joel a nod as a reply.

Daniel's response would be radically different if he hadn't received Joel's memory in some way.

Daniel's vision suddenly became obscured. After a few seconds of darkness, Daniel finally spotted the clear sky, as well as felt the grass and fresh air, entering his lungs. He didn't stand up, yet, since he was still reading the newest system notification he had received.

[The conscience of the activity you had used will now begin in three, two, one, zero!]

A painful sensation flickered across his head. He embraced the torture as he forcefully clenched his teeth and closed his eye shut.

When the pain subsided, Daniel wasted no time in commanding the system in a hurried, drained voice, "starter pack."

[Do you want to use the starter pack? Y/N]

[Warining! It will take at least five minutes to scan your body for suitable skills and items. Do you wish to continue? Y/N]

Daniel mustered up his strength and raised his hand, cautiously pressing the "yes" button while displaying a sour grimace.

Subsequently, Daniel's body began twitching violently. He felt like a blade was gliding beneath his skin, fortunately, it wasn't excruciating like experienced in the past. But he still considered it painful.

After exactly five minutes, the anguish dissipated like a bubble. Although Daniel's body was able to relax, at last, the exhaustion persisted, causing him to gasp for oxygen.

[Scanning complete I will now start to distribute your item and skills]

[Item received]

A silver-colored metallic sword with a plain design was displayed when he swiped down the system board; it was roughly 35 to 40 inches tall.

He glanced beside the sword picture and saw the status of the sword.

[Sword: no name]

[Rank: Silver]

[Wieght: 1 Strength]

[Additional effect: none]

[Atrribute bonus: none]

[Durability: 120/120]

Daniel nodded his head after reading the sword status. "It's just a regular sword with no special effects, huh?"

He then swiped the system board once again.

[Received skill]

[Sin of gluttony]

[Supreme body]

As he finished examining every aspect of the skills, Daniel winced hard and muttered, "seems like I shall live a painful life, these skills were useful but the consequence."

___

[Supreme body]

[Rank:???]

[Mana cost: 0]

[Upgradeable: yes]

[Ability: Your proficiency increases the more you engage in combat..]

[Consequence: After the combat, you'll experience agony.]

"Every skill is tremendously helpful, but the consequences are." Daniel could not imagine the suffering he would endure, but a thought crossed his mind: "Well, great power comes with great pain," he reasoned.

Daniel immediately inquired after closing the system board, "What would happen if I upgrade the skills, and how can I upgrade them?"

[The two skills you received will upgrade on their own, while the other skills can be upgraded through system points or independent practice.]

[The Consequence will be less severe, the absorption rate will increase, and additional features will be unlocked if the 'sin of gluttony' is upgraded.]

[The Consequence will be less severe, the proficiency absorption rate will increase, and additional features will be unlocked if the 'supreme body' is upgraded]

"Ohh, so is it required to get a painful consequence after suing the skills?" Asked Daniel.

[Your body and cells are not prepared for unexpected modifications if you acquire the ability but do not learn it. Your cell caused the pain, thus to put it simply, your cell is upgrading In the process. The response is the same for the supreme body.]

Daniel nodded in understanding. The explanation of the system made a lot of sense, so he decided against asking any further pointless queries.
