Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Advice

"What?" Kara seemed surprised and almost suspected she had heard it wrong when Jay extended the invitation over the phone, "You mean, let me go to your family cookout?"

"That's what it means," Jay said as he took the packed bag from the cashier at the supermarket counter because Mrs. Reynolds said there weren't enough ingredients for dinner.

The other end of the phone remained eerily silent until he walked out of the supermarket door with the bag in hand. He asked suspiciously, "Hello, is it still there?"

"...exist."

Whether it was an illusion or not, he felt that Kara's voice seemed to have become smaller. He added, "But it's okay if you don't want to come; I'll explain it to them."

"No, it's not that I don't want to. It's just..." Kara's words stopped here, and she couldn't find a suitable way of saying it for herself. Maybe she just felt that the step of "meeting the parents" was a little too early for her now, but she couldn't say it because it sounded like their relationship had developed to an excellent point, and the thought made Her cheeks were slightly hot.

After all, she and Jay seemed to have only known each other for a few days.

I don't know if he saw her complicated thoughts; Jay added: "There is no need to have any special burden; my dad wants to meet the superhero who saved his old life. He has lived in the metropolis all his life, Hasn't seen a real superhero once. Maybe he'll ask you for an autograph."

So this is not the traditional meaning of "meeting the parents"? This calmed Carla's heart a little, and she agreed, "Well then, what time?"

"Just this weekend," Jay said. "Are you free?"

"Yes," Kara said. "I'll be there."

Jay put the phone back in his pocket when the call was over and strolled along the sidewalk with the bag in hand. Of course, he could have sat back on the sofa in the living room in the blink of an eye, but for now, he just wanted to take a leisurely walk.

After the sun slowly sank to the houses of the metropolis, the fading sky was like a boundless canvas, and the fiery red sunset cast a long row of dark silhouettes of buildings of various shapes on the curtain, revealing the twilight.—the unique atmosphere of the city. The street lights haven't turned on yet, and inconspicuous shadows crawled into the nooks and crannies of the town as if dormant, waiting for an opportunity.

Jay stopped in a remote corner and suddenly muttered to himself: "You said that for a while and then looked for a chance to ta; I thought it would take a while."

"Super senses? It's convenient."

Helena popped out of nowhere, and this seems to be one of the common tricks for all members of the bat family. She had taken off her uniform at this moment and put on a casual attire that seemed to reflect the atmosphere of a young girl, but it could not hide her mature and hot figure under the clothes.

"How about a drink?" She pointed across the street with a smile, "I'll treat you."

A minute later, the milk tea shop.

Jay watched as Helena took a complex sip from the coffee-colored soft cup and let out a long "shh," followed by a contented expression that made you feel as if you were looking at her. The taste of milk tea appeared.

He spends a few minutes pointing to Helena about how he was involved in the incident and what happened to Carla on this exciting journey to the world at war. Helena listened carefully with the straw in her mouth, and when Jay finished, the liquid level in the cup had dropped to a third of the way.

After Jay finished speaking, he looked at her for a moment and asked, "So, do the top-secret agents of the state have any views on this matter to share?"

"You may not believe it, but I don't know much more than you." Helena shook her head and said, "The headquarters monitored the high-level energy response in Chicago, and the high-level idle agent in the nearby city happened to be only me, so you Meet me there. And before that, I knew nothing of the stories you told."

"Wait, aren't you in Metropolis?"

Helena rolled her eyes: "You don't live there, so my work needs to run around, and I may need to go abroad for business after a while."

"Fairy Wood"

She paused, took another sip from the straw, and said, "We've started an investigation into Carey International Creative, but don't get your ho,s up; I don't think we'll find out anything. As soon as you get back, More than ten hours before the earth's arrival, this company's CEO disappeared, as if he had evaporated from the world and disappeared. And the 'quantum R&D department' you mentioned, the relevant personnel, including the person in charge, is gone. And the this department's research and development projects o traced on the company's servers as if it were completely independent of the company."

"So there's no clue? But how is that possible?" Jay asked, frowning. "We all saw it, and it's hidden under that building! Where's the rest of the company? The board of directors? The shareholders? Could it be? They don't know anything?"

Helena shrugged: "It sounds weird, but it seems to be the case. My people are already interrogating other senior executives of the company, and they all agree that only the CEO knows about this department, and they don't even know about it. There is a huge laboratory hidden under the building."

Jay knitted his brows as if he felt an invisible chill quietly dissipate, seeping into all corners. Helena's drink cup was finally sucked to the bottom, and a loud "hula la" sound echoed in the empty cup. She put down the soft cup, saw Jay's serious expression, and asked, "What?"

"I just thought, when my father disappeared, I went to the detective who was in charge of the case," Jay said. "I heard them say they were given orders not to pursue this case. And they say it's happened many times. It makes me wonder...what exactly are we dealing with?"

"Who knows." Helena shrugged, "but we'll figure it out. I'll use the resources I have to try to investigate, but at the same time..." She paused and then changed the conversation: ".. ...I think maybe you should be more cautious."

"I?"

"Yes, you." Helena put on a severe expression, feeling like a big sister who educates children, "My superiors have begun to pay attention to you, and they asked me if I know anything about you... . Of course, I'm hiding it for you for now, but I'm not sure how long - I don't think it's surprising at all, considering you caught a high-speed dive in the middle of the city's metropolis ."

"My dad was on that plane with so many innocent people," Jay defended. "I don't think there's any better way to do it."

"I know it was an emergency, and you had no choice," Helena said. "But what about this time? You acted recklessly and recklessly, with a cardboard awareness of hiding your secret identity. How much of the aftermath did I do for you after you patted the butt and left? You're lucky, but not every time you rush up there; someone will clean up the mess for you, understand?"

Her tone is getting higher and higher, like a big sister who reprimands her ignorant brother. Jay subconsciously didn't dare to look her in the eyes, he wanted to say a few words in a low voice, but after thinking about it for a while, he felt that she was right.

"Of course, as a superhero, you are still a rookie; this is not incomprehensible." Helena's tone was a little slower, "I'm just reminding you that a special existence like you, every decision you make, all actions are You have to be cautious. I know you're invulnerable and almost omnipotent, but so is Superman."

Her words are truncated here, but the meaning is obvious.

Even Superman died. Who knows what will happen to the rest of us in a world where all supermen die?

Jay opened his mouth to say something but finally swallowed it back, just nodded and said, "Thanks...I'll pay attention."

"Let's do it first, I will continue to investigate on my way when I return, and I will let you know if there is any progress." Helena stood and patted him on the shoulder, "Enjoyable conversation."

Jay looked at her back as she walked out of the store, feeling slightly moved. Helena's reminder is indeed justified. The world is not as peaceful as it seems on the surface, and he should be cautious in every step he takes. Sure enough, she's a good person, which can be regarded as a sign of concern...

Until the waitress in the store showed him a sweet smile and politely said: "Two cups of milk tea, a total of twelve yuan."

Jay: "..."
