Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Taste of Freedom

It had been an agonizingly long 11 years since he and his uncle had fled from the pack. And 6 torturous years since this insane rogue pack had ambushed him and his uncle.

He remembered that day with frighteningly vivid memory. It was his birthday and Rylan had shifted early for his age, he remembered the painful long process the shift was, the tears that spilt out of his eyes as his body broke and shaped itself into a different structure. He remembered all the times he vomited as his body molded into an entirely different creature.

It was a grotesque sight.

It was worth it though, Rylan thought. Being a freshly turned pup and witnessing the advanced senses that nipped at him playfully, teasing him to discover more of what the world held. He remembers being able to smell the herd of deer in the forests, and the bugs that kept buzzing irritating him beyond what he thought was possible. He remembers playing with his uncle Erin in the forests before they were ambushed by a group of 50 or so rogues.

Rylan scoffed. A bit of an overkill, no?

The wolf was snapped out of his thoughts as the door opened with an annoying high-pitched creak that made Rylan want to scratch his ears off, and out stepped the same rogues that had tormented him during his 6 year stay here.

"Rylan", one had said in a sing-song voice. "Happy birthday Rylan." The other rogues chuckled at their friend's antics, but Rylan couldn't see what was funny. All Rylan wanted to do was claw that stupid wolf's face off till all that remained was bone and rip his vocal cords out.

Rylan's wolf snorted as his skin counterpart chuckled inside. Now that would be hilarious.

As Rylan daydreamed about ripping all their faces off and tearing the fangs out of their jaws to keep as trophies before he was interrupted by a sudden growl.

A hot breath fanned his face and Rylan's face wrinkled up in disgust at the putrid odor.

"We've got a special birthday gift for you Rylan", The wolf practically purred out. Rylan snarled in his face and pounced forward flashing his fangs at the idiotic wolf. The wolf stumbled back as Rylan was forced back by the chains with a loud thud. He kept snapping his jaws and releasing threatening snarls towards the rogues looking almost feral as his wolf showed up.

Rylan knew his eyes were glowing from how close he was from shifting right now, and the small shiver the rogues in the room released only fed the sadistic monster inside of him.

One of the rogues had stuttered out an order that was incomprehensible in Rylan's blood lusting rage. He was then approached by another rogue with a syringe in hand. He played ignorance towards the approaching rogue, but once he was within reach Rylan shifted and ripped the rogue's hand clean off exposing the bone. He released the hand and bit down on the arm forcing the rogue forward while Rylan took that opportunity to snap his neck as a sickening crack sounded throughout the dark room.

He took pleasure in hearing the screams of terror from the other residents in the room before Rylan decided it was enough playing around and he looked towards the other rogue in the room.

Rylan would have laughed if he were in his skin as the odor of urine filled the room. His wolf seemed to also enjoy how terrified the grown man was in his presence. However, if Rylan wanted to escape, he had to do it now. So he pounced, the force breaking the chains off the wall, on the man keeping his paws on the rogues chest to shift his weight to keep the man down and chomped messily, while cracks sounded throughout the room, on his neck before pulling back and the head ripped right off along with part of his spine attached. A pool of blood gathered at his paws and Rylan was sure he looked like something out a nightmare, but he relished in the taste of revenge and the blood of his enemies at his feet.

Rylan dropped the head and nudged it towards the other rogue with his nose, who flashed his teeth to try and look intimidating, but Rylan only scoffed as his wolf snarled out a warning.

He was truly done taking other people's bullshit.

He dove at the other rogue and clawed into his chest, ignoring the screams the rogue let out in search of the rotten wolf's heart. He kept on digging into his chest before using his jaws to plant his teeth and rip the heart out of the rogue's body. Rylan debated on taking the fangs off the rogue but decided freedom was top priority right now. He lifted his head up and trotted out of the room. Once he checked for any others, he booked it and sprinted towards the closest exit.

Rylan had been planning his escape for months now. He had mapped down the nearest exits and he didn't particularly care for security as he was confident in his abilities to kill.

After all that's what they've been forcing him to do isn't it?

When Rylan first arrived here at the fresh age of 13, they spared him no mercy and began to douse the teen in wolfsbane and vampire venom. With how often he was exposed to the harmful substances it seemed his body worked overtime to adapt and develop an immunity to the liquids.

At first it was subtle. Rylan had only felt some stinging instead of the acid like burning it brought and he supposed it was because they perhaps had decreased the dosages?

But then he stopped feeling it all together.

Apparently they had noticed he wasn't as vocal during torture sessions and began to cut off his body parts to get a rise out of him again. They had pulled his nails off, and Rylan's body did what it did best. Adapt. It began to regenerate amazingly fast and with how fast they healed they resorted to skinning him.

They had sometimes forced him to shift and took some of his fur for themselves. Other times they just ripped his human skin right off him.

Rylan was so sick of it all. So he had figured out how to shut off his emotions. He didn't want to feel pain anymore. He was so sick of the pain he'd rather feel nothing.

And feel nothing he did.

The rogues tired of him quickly after that. His eyes were vacant and hollow, no emotion present in those eyes of his. And it was no fun to torture something so emotionless Rylan had guessed.

Of course, that didn't stop them from having him massacre people. They had threatened to end his uncle's life and Erin was his only living relative he knew of. He would do anything to keep him alive.

Even if it meant killing innocents.

Rylan felt horrible. Of course he did. But if it meant he was possibly saving his uncle's life he would do it any day.

But then Rylan figured out his uncle was already dead. He had overheard one of the guards talking about it and Rylan had of course tortured the truth out of the rogue before ruthlessly killing him.

Even if his uncle was no longer alive, Rylan still killed. Because the rogue leader kept on looking at him in a way that sent shivers of dread up his spine. It happened once and had luckily stopped before it escalated and Rylan would not let himself be overpowered like that again, not if he could do something to prevent his own suffering.

Because so long as he behaved the leader had kept his disgusting hands to himself.

And Rylan knew it was selfish to choose himself over the thousands he's killed but he couldn't bring himself to care.

Once Rylan reached the exit of the dingy old manor he ran until he could run no longer, until the pain on his side made it awfully hard to breath, until his legs collapsed under him and turned to jelly.

He had fallen asleep that night in the middle of the forest in his fur. Far away from his tormentors. He was positive the rogues would never reach where he was, so he slept like he had not slept in a long time.
