Chapter 9: Calculative and Scheming Blood
The next morning, Lan Zhongyao, the second son of Physician Lan finally opened his eyes. But, no matter how his parents asked about what he could remember during the kidnapping, he seemingly had no idea and would just shake his head.
Lan Zhongyao's responses were either, "I can't remember." "I don't know." or "I'm not sure."
This left Physician Lan feeling distressed. But, he did not push his son to recall what had happened. "Zhongyao, if you can't remember right now, then, just take a rest. I will find out the bottom of this and handle everything. Oh--- also, you don't need to go to school for a week, son. I'll submit a medical report to your professors. Stay here with your mom."
"Dad," Zhongyao suddenly called however, he suddenly looked hesitant to continue his words.
"What is it?" Physician Lan softly asked and tapped his son's shoulder, encouraging him to speak up.
"Uhmm, Zhongqi is using a very strange perfume. Whenever he came near me, the smell is giving me a headache. Could you tell him not to visit me while I'm resting?" Zhongyao's tone almost sounded like he was pleading.
Physician Lan furrowed his eyebrows and stared at his son for a while. His face turned emotionless the moment he heard the tone of Zhongyao.
Feeling the intensity of his father's stare, Zhongyao looked confused and asked, "D-Dad?"
"Hmm... Alright. Your brother will be busy with his school anyway. But, don't speak in that manner again, Zhongyao. You are an Alpha. In this city, you must speak with authority. Your identity is special. You are the second son of the Lan family," Physician Lan's tone was firm as he reminded him. But at the back of his mind, another thought dawned upon him, 'Is there a perfume that could alter the original manifested trait of an Alpha? Or maybe... pheromone restructure? Any Alpha should be angry under this circumstance. Zhongyao is almost acting like an Omega after he wakes up!'

If he was just the father of this teenager, he would probably not have sensed easily the abrupt change of behavior. However, he was an expert in the diagnosis of traits. A few minutes were enough for Physician Lan to comprehend that something was changing in his son.
"Dad, your son understands. I won't disgrace the Lan Family," Zhongyao responded in agreement.
"I'll go and meet your brother. Take a full rest," Physician Lan mumbled before he turned around and walked away. But, before he completely departed, he faced his son again and offered a small smile. Then, he spoke once more, "Zhongyao, whatever happens, you won't be a disgrace to the Lan Family. I'm proud of you, son."

After stepping out of his son's room, Physician Lan rubbed the back of his head and sighed. However, just as he took a few more steps, his phone vibrated, hinting to him that there was an incoming call.
When he glanced at the screen, it was the same contact details of the person that he asked to authenticate the video that he got from the head doctor of the Jinzi family.
"It's faster than I expected," Physician Lan skipped all morning greeting and directly complimented the person on the other line.
"Alpha Ningzhong, your youngest son must have his reason," the other person started. He did not need to speak of the result, his words were enough to confirm the authenticity of the video.

Physician Lan took a deep breath to maintain his calm. "Of course, I know that he has reasons. He is my son. If it's not my wife's blood in his veins, then, it's mine. Have you forgotten how I become the head of the Lan Family? Where else can my youngest take this scheming behavior other than me?"
"Oh? I've never expected that this day would come... you've consciously acknowledged your nasty actions in the past!"
"I've never denied what I've done in the past. But, it is because the Lan family leaders seek a calculative heir to lead the next generation. My action was something that was within the expectations of my ancestors." Physician Lan defended.
"Well, fine. I am aware that your behavior back then was justified. Hmmph. Since I am in a good mood, there's another thing that I've investigated. Alpha Ningzhong, do you want to know what I've found out?"
"Don't waste my time and tell me," Physician Lan spoke with a hint of curiosity.

"I found out that it's your youngest son who was also the one that recommended those academy professors to check your property in the mountains under the facade of school camping. It's not amusing because Lan Chuntian is my favorite among your children. Even if she manifested as subdominant, I always like how independent your daughter is. But, your youngest son seems to be full of youthful ambition, just like you when you were young. Now, as his father, will you turn a blind eye?"

Physician Lan suddenly went silent for a few seconds before he responded, "Tell me, should I turn a blind eye to youngest grandson... father?"
"Ohhh... now you are calling me father? Bah! I almost vomited in disgust! I've never agreed on you as my son-in-law! I'm only here because of how powerful your Lan Family is!"

"But your daughter is already part of the Lan Family. And the moment I took the authority and become the leader of the Lan Family, it does not matter if you approve or accept me as your son-in-law. Anyway... I only call you father because my wife is walking towards me," Physician Lan reasoned out. But, it was true that he saw his wife's figure in his peripheral view. But her direction was actually heading to their kitchen and was not approaching him.
"Ming Zui is near you? Then, I'll better hang up. I don't want to hear my daughter nagging me about playing with Omegas in the bar! I've told you everything I know. Bye!"
Physician Lan had no chance to respond at all. Their call ended right away. "That old man... I meant to ask if I should turn a blind eye to this or not. He did not bother to leave his advice! How troublesome."
