Chapter 7: Bait
After leveling up the only reward was a stat point, so Dave was a bit disappointed until he realized that the skill book must have unlocked some new skills. The skills that had the requirements of having reached level 2.
Without wasting any time, He walked to his room cautiously watching out for anyone lurking in the shadows to attack him.
He was still curious about why haven't the assassins tried to directly kill him yet. After opening the room he saw nothing out of the ordinary so he closed the windows and doors just like last time.
He opened the system window and summoned the skill book and after infusing mana into it, the system showed him the newly available skills.

There were two new skills but after seeing a particular skill, he smiled because it was what he needed. He clicks the [Information] option to read the description of these skills.

After that Dave carefully read all of the details about how to use the skills. In the end, he made a very big decision.
" I have to do this to survive."

Dave had shut down any source of light in his room and activated his new skills and then drank a mana potion as well. He waited for the enemy to come at him, even though it was dark Dave was able to see everything as clearly as he would see during the daytime.
Not long after that, he saw someone coming out of the wall in front of them. Now Dave understood why he was never able to find his assassin as they had the power to come and go through the walls.
The man didn't make any sound as he approached Dave and soon attacked using the dagger he had in his hand. However, his attack was stopped by something invisible, and the next moment Dave got up very fast with a knife and quickly attacked the assassin.
The assassin avoided his attack and tried to punch him but failed because of that invisible barrier again. Dave finally had another opening to land an attack but the knife just passed through the body of the assassin like he was a ghost.
The assassin tried to run away but something unexpected happened. He wasn't able to pass through the walls. The barrier didn't allow anything to pass through, and Dave had expected that to be the case.
' It worked!' Dave had used mana potions and had his mana completely replenished so he was able to erect another barrier this time having the assassin also inside of the barrier. After that, he tried to attack again and again but the assassin was like a ghost that wouldn't take any damage.
Dave had the advantage, he was able to see everything because of his Night vision skill clearly while the assassin was merely guessing. He had selected two new skills for himself, the first was Night Vision which he was avoiding up until now and the second was the Invisible barrier. He also had enhanced endurance so he was able to fight without much trouble of getting tired.
Soon Dave noticed that the assassin was returning to his physical form. Maybe there was some timing-related drawback, seeing that Dave smiled.
The assassin became desperate as he stabbed the dagger with all his might. Dave was sure that he heard his shield cracking because of the attack. However, he didn't fall back instead drove the assassin into the corner, now that he can see that the assassin was unable to use his skill that allowed him to pass through the walls.
Even if Dave had the advantage, The assassin was much more skilled than he was. He fought like a professional fighter that Dave had seen on television only. The only reason why Dave was confident was because of his shield.
He currently had 7 units of mana, because he had used 3 units in creating another shield after he had replenished himself.
He acted as bait and had to choose a skill like night vision and poison resistance just because of this assassin. No matter what, Dave was never going to let this one leave alive, he will kill him for sure for making him waste his slots.
The assassin took out the cube and pressed the crystal over it. The crystal started to shine, and Dave suddenly got a weird feeling about it.

Dave covered himself with two more layers of the shield and in the next moment, he was blinded by a big blast. The blast happened inside the room which was inside a barrier so it contained the blast for a few seconds but within seconds it was broken.
The same happened with his first layer of shield and then the second. The blast reached Dave and badly injured him, on the other hand, assassin was lying on the floor. He also tried to save himself from dying by using some kind of item but unfortunately, the Assassin ended up taking a great deal of damage than he must have assumed.
Although Dave was injured, he was still able to move. Everything around him was burning, this part of the employee dorm was destroyed.
" How stupid?" Dave spoke as he reached toward the almost-dead assassin. " Bye Bye!" Dave spoke before he stabbed his knife right where the heart of the assassin was supposed to be.
Dave lost everything in this fight that he had from his previous world, his bag with office documents, his office suit, and the rest of the clothes everything was burnt.
As he kept on stabbing at the chest of the Assassin, he felt his anger and worries being relieved. Now he doesn't have to worry about him for some time. He was sure that they will send more assassins after him but that wasn't a big problem, next time he will be stronger.
" You can stop Dave!" A person shouted from behind. Dave was startled, and he turned around to see that Oscar was there. He was breathing heavily as he had come running as soon as this blast occurred. " He is dead so you can stop," Oscar spoke once again.
Dave finally noticed a notification on the system window that confirmed that the assassin was dead for real.
