Chapter 28: Commotion at Sterilization Room

Yet, even as the sands of his remaining lifespan were precisely calculated by an intangible force, the homeless man had managed to elude the relentless zombies that pursued them.

The odds were against him, his survival a tenuous thread woven into the chaos, but somehow, he had managed to defy those odds and cling to life.

The majesty of a towering structure had loomed on the horizon, a beacon of hope amidst the desolation that surrounded them.

Hobe and Ray had roused from their stupor, their dazed minds registering the sight before them. The old caravan had jolted to life as it collided deliberately with the edifice's wall, a forceful wake-up call amidst the swirling chaos that had engulfed them.

"Apologies, but I've never been known for my gentle awakenings," the old man had remarked with a wry grin, his weathered face creasing with a touch of gallows humor that pierced through the gravity of their situation.

His words were a testament to his ability to find levity in the darkest of moments, a coping mechanism honed through countless trials.

Among the survivors, the impact resonated deeply, serving as a poignant reminder of the fragile nature of their existence.

Even the homeless man, who had learned to adapt to a life of hardship, had found himself taken aback by the stark juxtaposition of luxury and decay.

The reception of the survivors by the slayer knight staff had been far from warm. They had been ushered into a sterilization chamber, a room that had promised to cleanse both body and soul, offering a sanctuary from the perils that loomed outside.

"Don't act weak like a woman. Die, or walk fast to be sterilized!" a particularly cruel staff member had taunted, his words a cold blade cutting through the already tense air.

Struggling footsteps and a fading sight had accompanied Ray's continuous gaze at the beautifully designed cars that had carried the slayer knights.

Despite the dire situation, the allure of those sleek vehicles had captured his attention, his eyes tracing their elegant lines and imagining the luxury they represented.

"Being a slayer knight must be fun," he had murmured, his voice tinged with a mix of bitterness and longing. "Treated like a noble, allowed to eat fancy foods." His words had carried a mixture of irony and envy, a window into the stark disparities that defined their world.

His eyes had flickered towards the now severely damaged caravan, its battered form a far cry from the opulent vehicles he had been gazing at.

In his mind, the image had shifted, morphing into a fantasy where he was no longer the helpless survivor but a king, a figure of power and authority.

In this imaginary realm, everyone bowed before him, and he had countless women at his beck and call. It was a fleeting escape from the grim reality they faced, a small sanctuary carved out within the confines of his mind.

The arrival of the survivors wasn't welcomed warmly by the slayer knight staff. Instead, they were met with cold and indifferent gazes, a stark reminder of the hierarchy that had emerged in the post-apocalyptic world.

Without ceremony, the survivors were ushered into a room designated for sterilization and cleaning, a separate disinfectant chamber that symbolized the division between their old lives and the new reality they now faced.

Inside the chamber, a procedure awaited them. Stripped of their clothing, they stood vulnerable before the sterilization process.

High-pressure jets of water were unleashed, a forceful cleansing that was both uncomfortable and dehumanizing.

The cold water, mixed with disinfectant agents, washed over them, stripping away not just dirt but also a part of their dignity.

The harshness of the treatment was a stark contrast to the opulence the slayer knights enjoyed, a bitter reminder of the disparities that had emerged in their society.

Amidst the turmoil, Hari awoke from her unconscious state, her senses slowly returning to her.

The tantalizing scent of Ray's blood hung in the air, drawing her in like an irresistible lure. A droplet of his blood had settled on her lips, the taste a curious mixture of life and death.

It was as if the very essence of his being had beckoned to her, a connection that transcended the boundaries between the living and the undead.

In a primal and instinctual response, Hari's mouth opened wide, her once-innocent teeth transforming into elongated, sharp fangs.

With an uncanny precision, those fangs punctured Ray's neck, a calculated and deliberate movement that allowed her to feed.

The act itself was a paradoxical blend of horror and necessity, a testament to the raw instincts that now governed her existence.

Ray's agonizing screams filled the chamber, reverberating off the walls as the searing pain coursed through his body.

He crumpled to the ground, his limbs trembling and powerless, as Hari mercilessly drew sustenance from his very veins.

In her relentless feeding, one of Hari's small hands forcefully gripped Ray's throat, her tiny fingers exerting an unexpected strength that left him gasping for air.

"Hari, no, stop!" Hobe's horrified shout rang out, his voice tinged with a mixture of disbelief and fear.

Hari's shrieks, muffled by her feeding but still piercingly audible, filled the air with a discordant symphony of pain and turmoil.

Each scream was a testament to the battle raging within her young heart, a battle between her humanity and the insatiable hunger that now controlled her every instinct.

In the midst of the chaotic scene, Alina remained a composed and swift actor. Her gaze locked onto the unfolding drama, and without hesitation, she lunged forward.

With a trained hand, she seized the electric shock device, her fingers wrapping around it with a determined grip.

In one fluid motion, she closed the distance between herself and Hari, the device poised like a weapon.

The crackling energy surged from the device as Alina pressed it against Hari's writhing form. It was a desperate gambit to break the grip of the insatiable hunger that had consumed the young girl.

But the clash of power wasn't so easily contained. The room seemed to crackle with tension as the currents of energy collided, a dance of electricity and desperation.
