Synopsis

Having spent her childhood confined in chains, Alice was a child who knew neither love nor joy. Scorned by her family while being tortured in the name of the greater good for years, she grew numb to all feeling and thought. That is, until one day, a man in black offered her a chance to escape.

There were once rumours widespread of an endless hell, a land of glorious death and dreadful opportunity. Fools went in search of it, and the clever never ventured into it. Only when its baleful mysteries spilled unto the earth did all hear its name — the Abyss.

A single drop of its blood could give someone the power to control shadows, move faster than sound, or strength greater than the strongest man. Yet, it all came at a cost; the blood would always make sure those who consumed it became part of the Abyss, with one exception — Alice. Cast away by her own blood, it was her destiny to rot in a gilded cage.

But, that fateful day changed everything. Gifted a second chance at life, a chance to turn her life around and claim vengeance against her family, a chance to dive deep into the Abyss and gain the power to govern her own fate, Alice took his hand, unaware of the destiny unfolding before her.

So far, I think that this new book is amazing. It clicked with me from the very beginning, the transition from one prison to another (albeit under different conditions) was seemless. And I do hope to see how far this book is going to go. I can't wait to see this story's power system. Keep it up Reilli.

early review, ch. 47 critique first: --infrequently, you may find a typo or slight grammar mistakes. part in parcel with enjoying webnovels --sometimes the mc feels like she speaks more eloquently than the plot should allow, but not a major plot hole why it's good: --mc goes through some very major trauma starting at 10 years of age. none of it is s--ual, yet it's still possibly a trigger warning for parents or folks with rough childhoods. if you can get past some of the rough bits, you start to really get a sense of the psychological depth of the characters early on in the story. their healing and progress makes sense and feels real. overall, I it is a novel that I think shows a lot of potential to help someone who might be struggling. --the main characters struggle is very unique, but is also entirely believable. not corners cut, no dice rolls (probably). everyone is clearly planned and well thought out. --fast paced. there seems to be a system involved, but so far it feels more believable than some far-fetched soul-ai. hope this helps gather some support. :) the world seems a better place for the story so far

After almost 600 chapters, I'm finally writing a review 😅 Before I begin, let me just say that I am picky asf when it comes to reading books; I read about 60+ books before I find a book that is worth my time/coins/FP. Also, this is probably the second review l've written in my 4 or 5 years on WN. ————————— I frigging LOVE the book! I came over from Nanomancer when I found out that Reili had started this book, when it had about 30ish chaps. —It has a pretty unique setting for the world. —A power system that I've not seen many times before in books, and certainly not in the way that Reili set up/used it. No, there is no "System" even though it may feel like that at the beginning of the book. —You can see the amount of time and effort Reili spend and still spends on worldbuilding the world at the beginning is already pretty well layed out, and the further you get in the book, the more expansive the world gets in both size and history. The same goes for the characters. It is noticeable that (most) characters are really thought about before they get introduced, which causes them to have depth. Even background characters have depth to them, although it is, of course, less than the important/recurring characters —There is a good, solid main plotline that hooks into pretty much every subplot that the book has - even if it doesn't look like they are connected at all. Besides that, the main plotline is also constantly getting bigger and more complex (not in a bad way!) the more the story goes on and the more you and Alice (the MC) learn about the world. Because Alice practically starts off with zero knowledge about the world, social etiquettes, etc. This makes that when you find out about something, it is usually at the same time as Alice, which makes it easier to connect/relate to her, in my opinion. —Alice (the MC) is crazy in a good way; not mentally unstable (allegedly), she doesn't kill (or torture) just for the fun of it. But she is crazy in how she fights, how she thinks about things, and also, she is pretty much an alcoholic. She also (luckily) isn't dumb. She learns fast - which is actually a major trait of her character. I could tell you more about her, but Reili is much better in telling you about her than I am, so yea. —Quality of the writing itself is also superb in my opinion. Sure, there are typos in the book, but they are so few that it's not even worth mentioning, since everyone can trip up. Reili also doesn't use unnecessary niche or "smart words" to sound smart. Words that are used sound natural, and garbled, stroke-inducing sentences are non-existent. All in all: a 5/5 book that is worth every coin and fast pass i spend on it, a book thats in the top 1% of the top 1% of books of WebNovel in my opinion.

Read up to 506. To be honest, I was hesitant to read this after reading Nanomancer. I didn’t think that Reili would write something else at the same level as his prior work but was pleasantly surprised. Love the characters and Alice’s development so far. I do think there’s a lot going on with all the gods, the hidden WILL and now Alice and the Queen having part divinity and the new cult but it doesn’t feel complicated which is nice). Overall I can’t wait for more chapters.

I recently finished Volume 4 and decided to leave my review because of how much I’ve liked this book. One of the amazing things about this book is that you are almost always learning something new about both Alice and the Abyss. There’s always a new mystery to solve or question to answer that drives the plot along in a very natural and smooth way that makes you want to keep reading. It also serves as a good bottleneck, preventing info dumping. It instead drip feeds you information slowly, which makes learning about the world more interesting and well paced. The fights are quite detailed with a cool original power system. There is also a lot of creativity in how people use their sigil powers. I like the soft-tiering of the power system where fights aren’t necessarily determined by numerical differences in sigils but how each combatant utilizes their own abilities and how they deal with their opponent’s abilities. The sigil count still matters of course and plays a big role in the dynamic of fights, but it isn’t the ‘be all, end all’. I am a little concerned that Alice may have gotten too strong too fast by the end of volume 4, but I guess I’ll see how that affects the main story later. Other than that, I feel like the progression has been very well paced. There is also considerable depth in the world itself where it always seems like there are many things that we as readers don’t necessarily see but is implied to exist which creates the feeling of immersion and depth. There is also a lot of thought that goes into various aspects of the world like the different dynamics of abyss beasts and the many small details about how the power system actually functions within the world. This book also does a good job of creating compelling/endearing characters outside of the main character. The cast slowly expands, but never feels too big to the point where any one character gets overlooked. In this regard, I think it’s an improvement over Nanomancer which featured very many minor characters (could just be personal preference though?). Even one-time characters like shop-keeps and drivers usually have some sort of thought behind their background and aren’t just a face for a material exchange. Anyways, great book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested, especially if you liked Nanomancer (the author’s previous book). I also like all the little Nanomancer easter eggs that seem to pop up sometimes. I’m really excited to catch up to where the novel is currently and see what comes next!

It‘s one of my favorite stories. The adventures of our little gremlin Alice awesome to read. The overarching villains are a bit convoluted but besides that it‘s an awesome story. Spoiler part of the review: I would personally split my reading experience into two parts. 1) The adventures of our protagonist 2) The side character god level nonsense festives This is where my main criticism of the story experience comes into play. The story is phenomenally written when it comes to for example the adventures on the surface area. From the war in the north to the north with side characters such as selene, to the port incident with minerva and darrow to the sect wars with old man mo and the final battle with the apostle of war. The story felt like a proper journey we experience through the protagonists narration, or alternatively characters that were heavily intertwined in the current developments of the protagonist. These story arcs are absolute peak 10/10. Then unfortunately there is also the Ayr nonsense. Everything based on that old ass kingdom and less than interesting villains such as a certain "betrayer" are horribly to read through. The entire main villains had been setup through a flashback from 500 years ago, completely irrelevant to the story before that arc, or the immediate adventures that followed. It reminds me of the snow girl character dump with the Olymp lore stuff. Both stories have pretty convoluted and pointless god power levels and I fear as the story progresses and the strength of the characters increases, that this story will devolve into the same unrelatable nonsense too. So take the future with a grain of salt, the seeds for the same long term issues are unfortunately already there. So far it‘s still a really good story though🤙

A good story overall. The powers and system are pretty well laid out even if much of the populace seems to not know most of the secrets of the abyss. I wish some background was added a bit to how the world got this way, but maybe some history will be included later. The Main character and supporting characters really only 4 or so that are regularly in the story are pretty well done and its fun learning about their backgrounds. The MC does have her issues and does show lots of growth as the story goes. I do have to dock her a bit because she really is terrible at following advice, even her own. For instance: Mentor Say's don't do this The Next Chapter: She does that and almost dies (yet gets stronger) Later she has a unique power which if exposed could mean everybody wants to capture or kill her. Before she attends an academy, she plans ot only to use her less unique abilities and sword kills as to not expose her unique ability while at the Academy. What actually happens? The first test and spar she has there, she uses it and exposes herself as a target for a crazy researcher that I know is going to have implications... Overall though I really do recommend reading both this story and Nanomancer Reborn. The Author does a good job of making purposefully flawed characters to downplay their Over Poweredness. The Author does seem fond of Masochists and Sadists though. I do Worry about our Dear Author. :)

Plot armor from the get go. Contradictory sentence to sentence, paragraph to paragraph. Words become pointless when descriptors are constantly being put in juxtaposition.
