Synopsis
Chu Feng transmigrates to a fantasy world only to realize that he’s a handsome but useless man who’s marrying into the family of Ji Rui, a capable woman of very high cultivation level. He quickly falls for his beautiful fiancee only to find out that she just wants to maintain a fake marriage to appease her powerful father, Ji Zheng. He finally finds himself in a situation that he would usually find in novels upon getting married—he is blessed with the Divine-level Son-in-law Freeloader System.
The irreverent system rewards him with mysterious gift packs and rare treasures for his efforts in completing missions, resulting in him quickly advancing from an ordinary person to a cultivator.
Ironically, Ji Zheng becomes more powerful due to a treasure Chu Feng receives from the system, which culminates in Ji Rui becoming the supreme leader of the four major sects in the world. However, opposing forces remain lurking in the shadows and Ji Zheng decides that a special treasure is required to aid Ji Rui in her ultimate advancement in cultivation.
In her search for this rare treasure, a stranger from afar comes with information of a cryptic ravine that splits the Purgatory Sea into two. She decides to follow the stranger and brings Chu Feng with her on the dangerous trip to the faraway Purgatory Sea which teems with itinerant cultivators, demonic beasts, and valuable treasures.
When they run into a life-threatening situation, Chu Feng says to Ji Rui, "My instinct is to protect you."
She is amazed with this man in front of her. Why would this weak and useless man want to save her when he knows that their marriage is only a sham? What should she do with this husband of hers? What would happen to their relationship when they find the special treasure?

Please no Harem. As long as it's not a Harem, I'll like it at this point! Most Empress novels are Harem but I hope I'm wrong about this one. Looks interesting. I don't know how the Empress became a System though...

Great read and shows promise! I am very interested in how this story will progress. Characters are well written, and everybody introduced actually has some depth. The MC is not OP compared to all the people around him. My problem is that he has a system which it seems to be useless and really isn’ a factor that much in the story! Maybe in the coming chapters the system will really show up. But this is a must read and the flow is easy and entertaining.

This is a pretty mid novel but it also feels shockingly short. In hindsight it felt like I read 5 chapters instead of the 19 I read. I've experienced novels that feel really short with nothing happening but this is beyond all of them. So far 2 things have happened. MCs wedding gone wrong and then one conversation with some mob character. Crazy stuff. There's nothing unique or particularly enjoyable about this novel, I'm struggling to find any redeeming qualities apart from "well it isn't trash" and the fact that it has a decent translation. The relationship between the ML and FL is really uninteresting, tedious and sometimes just vexing to read. The MC is incredibly unlikable when he's around her or just thinking/talking about her (from before he even met her). He's pretty decent otherwise and actually kinda entertaining, if the author makes him more likeable he could probably carry this series on his own. Even though I'm critical (almost excessively) about this novel I do think it has potential as a decent comedy and I can only hope it doesn't get squandered too badly. 2.5/5 I've read every trial novel this week with the exception of Pet Simulator (i hate the taming novels) and so far almost single pick has been bearable, Maximum Comprehension being the one shabby novel. Good job Webnovel.
Hope this gets picked! Seems interesting and like a nice spin on sign in novels. Big plus is from the summary it looks like no racism, no giving the characters white names, and good vibes

It's a shame this novel isn't more highly reviewed, because for a sign-in novel it is rather good. The MC isn't overpowered, he doesn't solely rely on the system, and things are actually happening to him rather than just around him as is the usual case. The distance between the MC and FMC makes sense, and the only stupid character is a minor one that appeared for one chapter.

MC had a fiancée, she was possessed by a system OR went crazy and is using telekinetic powers to drive her ex fiancé crazy. It's a horror book in both forms. Poor author must have been influenced by dreams with cthulu and didn't even realize, he still thinks he's safe when in fact he's already had his mind stained with the madness of the great ancients.
