Chapter 19: CHAPTER#19:THE ORPHANAGE PT#2

Resting my head over my hand I let out a deep hopeless sigh. I was practically annoyed since was in no mood to step a foot outside the warm, cozy room.

Yet again I had to give in to my mother's order.

"Say, mama!"

"Hmm, what is it, Luna?" She looked her eyes averted from the cold window to me.

"Why don't we just send the supplies to the orphanages instead of visiting them?"

"It's to personally understand the situation the poor are in my dear. This will also help you remember that how blessed you are to live a life of luxury."

"But I do thank God for it every day," I argued.

"I know my baby is such an angel after all." She smiled.

-"Hmph!Whatever. It's as if I am talking to a statue..."I Looked out of the window again. The world was white with snow. I hated it even if white was one of my favorite colors.

The ride on the carriage was uncomfortable for a modern woman like me who rode the latest models of luxurious cars in the 21st century. Had it been one of those cars the ride would have been for about fifteen minutes to the nearest orphanage at the max.

I watched children in light, ragged clothing playing in a snow-covered yard. Of course, it was a kind of a playground with a worn-down tree swing and no slides.

"Luna be sure to stay close or you might get lost." My mother held my hand firmly.

-"C'mon~do I look that stupid to you? At least I have a sense of direction you know?"That is what I wanted to say out loud but couldn't.

But her hand want bigger and soft with long, slender, and elegant fingers wrapped around mine.

I always wanted someone to hold my hand with sincerity and kindness. Looks like my wish came true.

After greeting the children, I sat in the carriage the entire time the provisions were distributed to nearly twenty orphanages in the city.

"This is boring and annoying. I want to hurry back and lie down in my warm comfort zone."

"What are you talking about?"

"Mother!" I jolted as she entered the carriage.

"N-nothing! I...was just hoping we could have something to...to eat!"

"To eat?"

"I am quite famished. Isn't it supposedly a time for tea?"

"But we are on our way to the last orphanage. It is at the city borders. We cant go after today because of the cold weather."

Disappointed, I looked out of the window again and said no more.

The carriage stopped in front of a small rundown building. There was a bare tree near the single double floored building and broken walls of the entrance. There was no paint on it.

"It is an honor to have you at this humble place madame."The woman who was supposed to be the guardian of this place humbly invited us in.

" Children please give the madame and young lady your greetings."

"It is a pleasure to have you, Countess, and the young lady." Their greetings synchronized in a way that I understood they have been taught how to greet nobles recently.

Their eyes were filled with desire and envy whole looking at me. Some admired the lavish clothing that draped me from every angle protecting my sensitive body from the bitter cold.

Annoyed by the strange atmosphere I left the building to get fresh air. Around the orphanage were the rundown residences of the poor.

I slowly walked around the old building observing its structure and surroundings. For some time I was completely engrossed in my thoughts until I heard a commotion from the back end of the building.

I did not want to bother myself with anything problematic. But I still decided to take a peek at the cause.

Upon reaching there I saw three brats kicking a child who crouched down on the snow-covered ground as if to protect something from danger.

The child was barefoot only wearing a thin ragged cloak and a tattered tunic held with a thin strip of cloth.

I was disgusted to witness such a scene as it brought memories of the past.

I decided to leave the place. I came back to the entrance however I knew it would leave a bad taste afterward.

So I waited for two minutes until the fight was over.

Restless after some time I went back. Frowning and letting out a heavy sigh I reached the spot only to find that they were still on to beating the child to death.

Without a second thought after our eyes met I picked up a wooden stick thick enough that it would make them bleed.

I dragged the stick with me to where they were continuing with their fun. Tapping on one boy's shoulder I smiled at the flustered boys and gave him a striking blow on his face.

-"One down.Two to go."

I sensed another one approaching me trying to hit the back of my head to which I dodged with a hair's breadth. Targetting his legs he fell on the slippery ground and probably hurt his butt hard enough that he could not walk for a day or two.

-"How dare they go up against me a former martial artist?"

"Now the last one to go." I turn around only to find out that he made a narrow escape.

"Better to save up energy than chase him," I mumbled under my breath.

"You! I knew it all nobles are like that." The boy who was bleeding from the forehead struggled upon his weak arms.

"Haa?!" my brows furrowed out of increasing anger.

"Says the person who is prone to bullying the weak. You sure got the guts to go against a noble. On top of it a lady at that."I raised the stick to land another blow when I felt someone lightly tugging my coat.

I looked around and saw the child being bullied previously by those cowardly brats.

" P-please...spare them...my lady. They... have learned their ... lesson."

The boy's body was bruised all over.

"Hah!" I let out a tired breath.

I pulled him towards the building as he struggled to keep up with me.

I could feel him trying his best not to let out a sound due to pain.

Upon entering the building I saw my mother who was distributing a set of clothes to every child.

"Mother we have a patient," I called out to her still dragging the child with me.

"Oh goodness! Where in the world did you go, Luna? And what happened to the child dear?" My mother hurriedly came over as the escort knight was made in charge of distributing the clothes.

"Nothing much he was being bullied."

"Ah! Sister, please treat this child."

"Yes, right away madame."

"Are you hurt anywhere Luna?"

-"You ask me after that lowly child?"

"No."

"There mother she is the one who did this to us!"
