Chapter 27: Lan's blood lust

Kan knew that there would be repercussions for their actions. Already, Tan had gone on a killing spree but that was the least of his worries.

From the way things looked, it seemed as though Lan who was standing next to him in the forest surrounded by dead beasts which were left laying around by Tan was in a trance. His eyes were blood red and he looked quite lost just from the way kan saw him.

Kan at that moment felt the need to take caution as he could sense severe bloodlust coming from his younger brother Lan. He planned to restrain the latter but had wasted too much time as Lan slipped from his grasp and shot off running even deeper into the forest.

By now, Tan was back in his senses and no longer feeling the effects of the bloodlust he had that made him jump off a mountain. He recalled that he had suffered injuries from the fall but somehow when he looked at himself, he found that he was all healed up.

He was also made to understand what had happened with Lan by Kan. Together they set off to find their brother, the youngest of the three.

Tan in his new form could move incredibly fast so he had gone up ahead. Kan on the other hand lagged. Transforming so many times in one day was not favourable to him. It caused him to be exhausted. While there was an easy way to maintain his energy by taking from the surroundings around him, Kan objected to this approach.

He found it cruel to siphon life energy from living beings without their consent. He trusted that Tan would Find Lan and had followed the trail left behind by the former.

Due to Tan's werewolf form, he was larger than usual. And running across the forest with his size caused quite the destruction to trees and landscape in general.

Some trees had fallen while others had huge claw marks dug into them. The ground bore the footprint of Tan who traversed.

After a long while of following Tan's trail, Kan eventually found him standing at the edge of a cliff seemingly motionless with loud grunts. Both Tan and Kan had been moving through the forest for hours and while kan himself kept upright, he suspected the other to be tired.

But it wasn't the case. It wasn't that Tan had run out of energy to keep the chase, rather, Tan had found Lan. Tan had found Lan's deeds.

Below the cliff where Tan stood, something had happened there. And as Kan got to where Tan stood, he had gotten a whiff of it too. The scent they both smelled at that moment was the stench of death, numerous deaths.

They didn't need to go further to know what had happened. Unlike Tan who had killed multiple beasts to satiate his hunger, Lan had gone hunting an entirely different prey from what they expected.

Below the cliff in a valley ahead was a small village. They could see the houses on fire and hear the voices of the weak fading out as time went on. They were too late. Lan had murdered an entire village in hours. This was the monster he had become.

Kan and Tan knew there wasn't much they could do then. Already, with Kan's superior senses, he could only sense a single energy from the village. And this energy matched that of a beast.

Tan and Kan made their way through the steep valley into the village to meet their youngest brother, Lan whom they saw lying on the ground amongst hordes of dead humans.

But they weren't just dead, they looked shrivelled and dried up. Almost like their essence was sucked out of them. After close examination, kan found that they all had the same bite marks on them.

Kan had a special ability which allowed him to see the memories of others. Be it dead or alive. With this ability, he looked into each corpse's memories and found that they had been killed the same way by his brother. Some of them went through a more brutal experience than others. But at the end of it all, their blood was sucked completely dry from their bodies.

Kan looked around and could see that the humans had tried to put up a fight with Lan as fire touches and all sorts of weapons were left on the ground. But given the result of it all, Kan was guessing that none of it had worked.

Kan returned after checking each corpse and was appalled to find Lan in the state he was in. Lan appeared to be in a deep sleep as testified by Tan who stayed with him. While Kan felt pity for what his brother had become, he couldn't shy away from the feeling of disgust he had as well.

Nonetheless, he could only blame himself for what had happened. He knew the blessings that came with the crystals also came with a curse.

Tan was a werewolf who fed on flesh. Lan was particularly drawn to blood, human blood and he who pioneered their adventure was a giant dragon whose mere presence around living beings caused them to die. They were all cursed, he knew this.

Kan gave up hope as there was no one he could save. Hundreds of villagers and none of them survived Lan's attack.

Kan felt sorrow beyond words but knew he had to return home. So kan transformed into his dragon form and with Tan assisting Lan, they rode on him back to their oasis.

"There is more to it. I can feel it. It doesn't end here. What happened with their wives and how did they each cope with the curses that accompanied their blessings? Why are you holding out on me?"Finn fired off a bunch of questions.

"There isn't more than this that I'm allowed to speak of. This is where the story on my part ends" Tiwa, Finn's dream bug replied.

"No, you know more. Who is in command of you?!! Am I not? Why do you fear finishing a simple story?!!!"Finn questioned angrily.

"It isn't just a simple story. But since you desire to know it all, I have been granted permission to tell you all. But I must warn you, knowing the entire story might set you on a path that will get you killed, "Tiwa warned.

-Somehow all of these events must have a connection. Why was I chosen to be told the story in the first place? I must find out all of it now that I have been granted the power to enforce my will- Finn lost in his thoughts.

"Finish the story, I order you!!!"
