Chapter 52: Demon Horde

Kriiieee! Kriiieee! Kriiieee! The screams of the mindless demons became more intense.

They charged at the convoy from every corner.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! David shot the ones that were closest to the convoy.

Mark took out his gun and drove with one hand. There was no one sitting beside him in the front seats.

The people sitting on the floor at the back all had their heads down.

Mindless demons were charging right at the van's windshield. He realized he won't be able to shoot them all at once.

"Oh no you don't." Mark's eyes turned black but before the veins on his neck and face could bulge out he said, "Miss me."

The mindless demons either zoomed past the van or crashed on the ground and made it look like Mark's swerving made them miss.

Mark only maintained [Morph] for two seconds, but felt like he was already out of breath.

Bang! Bang! Bang! David was in the zone. He shot and cocked two more times and dropped the shotgun and picked up the axe.

He swung the axe with a firm grip and beheaded a mindless demon that was in range, but before its body could land him on the people, he turned around and kicked it out onto the road.

He was so skilled with the axe as it moved freely between his hands. The axe was to be wielded two-handed, but for David, it was both two-handed and one-handed whenever it helped him slice or strike with shorter movement.

David and the people with him on the truck bed floor were constantly sprayed with the black blood of the creatures.

Bang... Bang... The man that drove the truck and the other person who sat beside him occasionally fired, but they had a questionable aim.

This went on for about 10 minutes straight.

The number of the mindless demons that charged at them was ever increasing as they progressed on their journey.

But they had become too much. About 12 charged at once and David could only kill at about 4, even with how skilled he was at using the axe.

He had to kill the mindless demons, all the while maintaining his balance as the truck swerved and maneuvered. He was getting tired.

Mark was out of breath. He constantly watched how the truck was doing on his side-mirror, maneuvered through vehicles, shot at the demons, and switched in and out of [Morph] continuously.

He divided his attention so much and because of the drawback he had been experiencing after using [Morph] his body wasn't in top shape.

He was getting overworked and an intense headache struck him.

Slice!

David beheaded a demon once again.

"Aaaaaahhh…" Its body fell on the refugees and its blood splattered on their faces.

It became often for them to throw bodies out of the truck, but most of them still screamed because of the horror they were witnessing. It was for this exact reason that everyone below 18 was blindfolded.

Amidst the screams, a mindless demon missed David's slice and picked up the little girl that sat next to him.

"Heather!!!!" Her mother let out a blood-curdling scream and held onto her daughter's legs.

"Mommmyyy…" The little girl cried out.

"Please don't take my baby!!!" She dragged with full force and the demon pulled her alongside her daughter, but she stopped when she got to the truck's bed floor door.

"Hold on!"

The few held her and overpowered the demon's dragging strength.

David was still busy fighting off the horde.

"No, don't hold me!" The mother shouted. Her grip on her daughter's leg was too weak, and she let go.

"Noooo!" The mother screamed in agony.

...Sh*t. Mark saw what had transpired on his side-mirror and wanted to enter his demon mode completely this time but as if the timing wasn't bad enough, right in front of him and about half a mile away was an armored demon with no third horn.

David swung his axe 180 degrees, claiming the life of 8 mindless demons at once.

He turned around and jumped on the truck bed floor door and used it as a springboard.

"Aaarrrgghh!" With his axe in front, he roared and split the demon's head in a vertical half.

Thud! They all fell to the ground.

David didn't waste any time. He picked the girl up and ran after the truck. Leaving his axe stuck in the demon's head.

The truck was going farther away, faster than he ran. The only thing that slowed the truck down was the occasional maneuvering and swerving.

Luckily, he got close to the truck and threw the girl onto the bed floor for the people to catch her.

"Behind you!" The screaming mother alarmed David.

Just as he was about to jump to spring himself forward and catch the bed floor door, a demon forward kicked him from behind. Propelling him faster and with more force than he expected.

Boom! That was the sound of his head hitting the edge of the bed floor door. He fainted and landed on the tarmac.

Mark stared at the armored demon as he drew nearer. Ah dammit… What should I do?

He looked in the side mirror and saw David's body lying on the road.

Mindless demons immediately rushed to David as he lay helpless.

…I need to go in full this time… Mark calmed his breath and tried to [Morph] but nothing happened. His eyes were still normal.

What the hell? He became restless and forced himself, but all he did was force veins to pop out on his forehead.

"Come on, come on, come on…" He pushed himself, but nothing happened. He looked in the side mirror to see mindless demons fighting over David's body as he grew farther away in the distance.

"F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*****ck!" He punched the steering continuously in frustration as he drove.

He looked at the armored demon waiting for the convoy up ahead and was filled with rage.

...What did we ever do to deserve an apocalypse on this scale? Huh?

He looked directly at the armored demon.

His headache grew worse by the minute. His eyebrows squinted, his eyes were bloodshot, he gnashed his teeth and asked, "Can't you friggin' tell me?!"

Mark's rage was kindled.

The armored demon felt pressure, and it shivered. Its mouth mumbled, uttering foreign words.
