Chapter 2: Ring

Fire continues to flicker on the thin wick of the candles, shadows dance under the ilumination of the candles.

An eerie silence dominates the room.

Jin stood in the middle of the room holding the photo with trembling hands. He had a blank look on his face, unable to believe what he was seeing. With shaking eyes he drew a deep breath and tried to calm himself but he found that he couldn't stop the trembling of his hand.

Jin looked at the picture again before looking at the messy room he had rummaged through.

If this is really a prank then it sure is one hell of a prank... Jin sighed and thought to himself in frustration.

He took one more look of the messy room before walking out and closing the door. After leaving the bedroom he found himself standing in the room he woke up in. He saw the candle with fire flickering on the wick, the book shelve containing books of unknown origin and the table and chair with the gentleman skeleton wearing a double breasted frock coat, a top hat, a ring and a monocle on his left eye.

It gives this particular room a mysterious vibe straight out of a horror movie. Gosh I hope this is just a prank, if not I wouldn't know what to do...

He eyed the various objects within the room until his eyes landed on a pattern written on the floor, he remember that this is where he initially woke up, it was a large circle, with two overlapping square within, one of the square was tilted and the other drawn properly.

In the middle of the two square were a small cirle with a picture of a sun and moon, and surrounding the two heavenly bodies were four circle with the symbol of fire, earth, water and air. The outer circle encasing the various circles and symbols had runes written on them, making the patter drawn on the floor look very bizarre yet it somehow fit on the mysterious atmosphere of the room.

As he continued to look at the patterns written on the floor, his focus started to drift off, he felt like his soul was drifting in the air. With a blank look on his eyes he continued to look at the pattern absent-mindedly, he forgot his current predicament, the dangers of being in unfamiliar environment and the frustrations that had been building up.

Jin felt that all his problem were just an illusion, he felt that he should just let go and follow his feelings, without knowing it he walked in the direction of the pattern with a blank look on his face.

Unbeknownst to Jin, the skull of the skeleton was facing his direction and the empty eye socket suddenly produce a slight amount of spark, insignificant enough for anyone to notice unless they were completely focused on it. Along with the spark, the ring it was wearing on the left ringfinger came off and when it hit the ground all the candles went off, plunging the entire cave to darkness.

Jin who was absentmindedly walking to the direction of the pattern suddenly lost his vission due to the sudden darkness, breaking him out of the bizzare state he was in. After Jin woke up from his strange state the light from the candles went back, the fire that was recently extinguishe continued to burn like nothing happend.

Having regained his reason, Jin hurriedly diverted his gaze away from the strange pattern on the ground while cold sweat started dripping from his back.

What the hell was that?!

Terrified, Jin hurriedly made some distance from the strange pattern on the ground and tried hard not to gaze at it. He feared that something terrible would happen if he ever made contact or gazed at it again.

While backing away without daring to look, he accidentaly hit something with his foot causing it to roll away and make some noise, the noise was incongruous in the silence of the room, he looked down and found a ring sitting silently on the ground.

He was confused at first because he didn't remember any ring or any object littering the ground when he inspected the room and considering how through he was in observing the entire room, leaving no stones unturned but suddenly finding a ring caused suspicion to arise.

I'm pretty sure that there's no ring here or any object... so why is there a ring now... Jin thought to himself before remembering something.

He turned his gaze on the skeleton, to be specific, the skeleton's fingers. He didn't immediately recognize the ring on the ground because he was afraid that something weird would happen if he touch the skeleton along with the object it was wearing, hence he only dared to give the skeleton an occasional glance.

He found that the finger which contained the ring was empty, confirming his guess that the ring on the ground was indeed the skeleton's. Although he confirmed the reason why there's a ring on the ground new questions popped up.

Why is it here? it can't be a coincidence that it just accidently rolled at me while I'm in that strange state... Recalling the frightening experience he just went through a couple of minutes ago caused him to shiver.

It's really lucky that the lights went out and blocked my vis- while thinking to himself he suddenly remembered something he had neglected.

That's not right! the lights! if I remember correctly the source of light here were candles so how could it be extinguished and then ignite without me doing so... He turned his gaze to the candles with an incredulous look on his face.

The candles continued to burn with gentle flames on its wick, illuminating the entire room.

Jin looked at the candle then back at the ring, he continued looking back and forth on the two object for several minutes but instead of being frightened he smiled instead because he finally found something that this entire scenario was a prank.

"Alright guys cut it off. I admit that this is really scary with so much details, I almost believe that I'm in some horror film. But I got you now, if you guys were wondering what gave you out then let me tell you.

"It was the lights, the photo and the ring. Hehe you guys really believe you could frighten someone with this cheap tricks but I have to be honest that weird pattern and symbols are really scary." Jin said aloud in the room.

Jin thought that this farce should be enough, although this whole experience were very scary indeed but that was because he hadn't had the time to calm down from the initial fright he had from being awoken in an unfamiliar environment add to the fact that he was given a scare from the moment he woke up.

But now that several hours had already passed and the initial scare wore off, he started to choke up every weird thing that happend on the premise that he was in a studio, like the studio where sitcoms were filmed, as for the weird state he was in when he looked at the pattern, he just choked it on some hypnotism thing and decided to forget everything that happened as long as this is over.

Jin stood in the room with a smile on his face, waiting for the studio staff to greet him but several minutes passed yet no one was receiving him, his smile started to turn stiff and he decided to call out again.

"All right guys I give up, so could we just please stop this?" He said with a bit of pleading in his voice.

Yet no one answered, his smile started to break down while his brows knitted. His face started to redden due to his accumulating anger, when his anger boiled to the point that he couldn't contain it anymore he lashed out.

"Fine! if you don't want to end things on a good term then let's end things on a bad terms!" he shouted with his face completely red.

Jin wanted to trash everything in this room but he found that aside from the table, chair, book shelf and the skeleton there's absolutely nothing in the room. Although there's another room, similarly it also only contain a single furniture, a bed.

Although he could destroy the furniture in this room he was sane enough not to mess with the skeleton, after all it was a skeleton and Jin grew up on an overly superstitious family, even though he didn't belive on those things it still influenced him.

With nothing to vent his anger on, he only grew more irritated until the ring fell on his line of his sight. Now what would be your first reaction when you're angry and a small object happens to be in your reach, if you could pick it up without bending over then you would throw it.

But if you can't your other reaction would be to kick it. And Jin did just that, he gathered strength from his back, bulge his legs and got in the most appropriate stance and loosen a kick.

Jin could swear that it was the most powerful kick he could manage.

Just when the kick was about to connect and send the ring flying, something strange happend. The ring which was circular in shape suddenly started to distort before forming a needle long enough to pierce through Jin's shoe all the way to his tender skin.

The whole process might have been long but it happend in an instant.

A shout suddenly sounded in the eerie silence of the room.
