[SI/OC Third Shinobi War]
I thought enlisting to become a Shinobi was a heroic deed. Then I graduated early to be deployed to the front lines. I am sadly and sorely mistaken.
[Full synopsis]
Well fought and well done. All of us fight as one. It took me three years to be able to properly read the faded out kanji of the flimsy poster that I keep in my back pocket. The illustration is colourful, bright reds and yellows. Colours that would definitely catch the attention of a child. The poster was carefully placed along the walls and fences of my village, level with the height of a four year old. I thought enlisting to become a Shinobi was a heroic deed, something I needed to do to save my family from poverty and to serve my country at the cusp of war. Then I graduated early to be deployed to the front lines.
I am sadly and sorely mistaken.

Finally a story with proper grammar and developing characters! Almost every single character on this site starts out super op, goes through time skips for days, and only focuses on learning super cool moves or dangerous missions. This story brings the other characters to life and is building to their personalities. We need more!
Obligatory author review here. I won't say I'm the best writer but I'm of the opinion that I have a rather simplistic writing style with quite a bit of sentence variation between long and short. The pace of the story is definitely on the slower side, but make no mistake that it won't be a regular slice of life where everything is all fluffy and chill. Story is set between the end of the Second Shinobi War and the Third. I've not seen any /interesting/ takes on this time period so I wanted to write my own. I mean rightfully so, we as readers don't get that much information about the Third War besides the Kannabi bridge and the battle of Kikyou Pass I think? And Sasori murdering the third Kazekage and making him into a puppet? [TLDR: Kakashi's Genin Academy days with an explanation that makes more sense than all the retcons that Kishimoto made! With an original character as a MC] A realistic take on civilian life outside Konoha. Bandits. Famine. Poor living conditions. A main character with an idealistic view on shinobi, viewed as heroes, godlike almost but reality is different. Propaganda radio for wartime recruitment efforts. A view on political affairs within the village. Civilian unrest. Psychological effects of growing up a child soldier during war-time. Be prepared to go deep in your feelings! Sure there's reincarnation somewhere but it's not going to give the MC foreknowledge on important plot points happening around this time. The person who the MC was before has very superficial knowledge about the Naruto world. MC works for his power. I'll try to keep the power scaling relative to keep the ******* of the overall story to match Kishimoto's pace and keep the story in a direction that would match the original! I won't spoil the romance options but I'll try my best to make it as natural as I can that you'd end up pining deeply for them to get together! NO HAREM! But like in life, sometimes... you just fall in love with someone else... Updates are sporadic because I'm working on other stories and y'know /work/.
