Chapter 1: New...Home

Yu Shen woke up shaking, his whole body felt frozen as he laid on the floor. The small sound of crackling embers and the harsh winds from the outside flooded his ears. He moved up and looked at his discarded bloody shirt. Flinching when he moved his eyes to the light barely lit fire. Only showing a light glow of the fire that was once there.

A sense of dread washed over him as he saw the fire dwindle. The feeling of freezing scared him to the point of panic as he looked around for anything to fuel the fire. Luckily, the person who stayed here before packed a punch of firewood on the inside. Giving Yu Shen a sense of relief as he loaded in the wood, using the paper to start it up again.

The light warm feeling the fire let out made The boy emotional. Crying happily as he warmed himself up the best he could… But he was still cold. He looked around and noticed that the cabin had a few other rooms. There was 2 on the bottom story and 2 on the top.

He forced himself to get up and look into one of the rooms on the bottom story… It seemed to be a bathroom…

He flushed the toilet to see if it worked… Thankfully it flushed normally. He tried the sink, it also worked. Tried the light… It didn't work. He shivered and grabbed the fluffy green towel hanging on the rack. Not caring who or what used this before him.

The boy looked in the other room… It was a dark basement with only the little light coming from the small single window, but the window was covered with snow, making it even harder to see. Of course, he didn't look any further, being fearful for what might be down there.

He moved to the attic like area, a little surprised that it was warmer than the bottom level. He looked at the 2 doors and went for the one on the right, hoping that it would bring him luck… It… made him cry out in fear.

A dead body, frozen in a corner surrounded by blankets. The other looked only a year older than himself. Yu Shen thoughts immediately went to the freezing cold outside. He started to shiver and Steeles off his heart, understanding that he could cry, but that would kill him.

He shook the boy, wondering if, by any little chance he might be alive… But the moment he saw the others face, it scared him off. The boy's eyes were frozen and cracked, his face was paler than a ghost. Cheeks looked like they haven't seen a speck of food for years.

...Shen calmed his breathing and moved his eyes to the dresser, hoping to keep his mind of the scary looking corps crouching in the corner, but at the same time felt mindful of it… the body looked like it could jump up any second.

He found clothes suitable for the winter in the dresser. All were a tiny bit too big, no doubt that they were the dead boy's clothes. He grabbed the warmer ones and put them on, grabbing the extra fluffy socks to put on his hands and feet.

His eyes once again moved to the dead boy in the corner… He wore fluffy boots that seemed to be meant for hunting, a fluffy jacket that seemed rather easy to move in, not to mention warm. Sadly the kid had no gloves on his hands or in the room.

"I-I'm so sorry!"

He stripped off the coat and boots as fast as he could, putting them on quickly. His eyes would have been filled with tears if he could shed anymore, but He couldn't. Instead, they felt itchy and dry.

He left the room quickly, feeling guilty… But less cold. His mind turned as he entered the last room… It seemed to be the parent's room, and to his luck. No dead body was laid out in a corner. He moved around faster, feeling warm because of the thicker clothing. Thankful that something brought him here.

He looked at the neatly done bed that was covered with dust… His mind was brought back to the other room… It was messy and had the look of hasty movement of desperation… But this one was well kept.

Yu Shen shook when he thought of the boy's pain and suffering. And it hurt his heart even worse thinking that he had no one to look after him… but he was in that same situation. He could only hope that the boy understood and sympathize with him when he took his clothes… and was now taking his cabin.

He dusted off the bed with his good arm, letting the injured one rest for now. The blanket was soft and furry but was still cold to the touch. Shen knew that it would get warmer if he laid in it for a long while, but didn't have the time for that.

His stomach hurt. He didn't even know how long he was in this new and terrifying world for. But he knows one thing… he needed food.

The boy walked down the stairs slowly. Limping slightly down the stairs, conscious of falling. A sigh of relief was soon let out the moment he hit the bottom. His eyes trailed to the small abandoned kitchen, he could only hope that there was something in there.

He opened the cupboard and found some flour, cereal, oatmeal, and canned foods. The others held pots and pans, along with tableware and dishes… The fridge was full of spoiled and rotten food. Nothing was fresh within it and almost made Yu Shen Puke… he would have if he didn't have anything but acid in his stomach.

The only good thing in that horrid fridge was the unopened jar of pickles. He immediately took that out and put it on the counter, planning to save that for later… when the food situation becomes serious.

He grabbed the cereal and ate it raw. Happily eating the sugary goodness. The boy couldn't stop till he ate half of what was left. He grabbed a cup and got himself some water, drinking it down quickly… after 3 more cups, he finally felt filled.

He sat on the leather couch, enjoying the warmth of the fire… Looks like he had some time to relax and think for a while... but something kept bothering him.

The boy upstairs looked starved, but how could that be? There was plenty of food that didn't perish and was perfectly edible... Could the parents be abusive? Hoarding the food but didn't survive in the harsh cold outside... If his hunch was right, then their death wouldn't be sad.

...This situation, it was useless to cry anymore. It would be killing him to think about the dead boy in his new shelter… All he could do was think about what to do next… The boy laid down and closed his eyes. Feeling a lot warmer then he did half an hour ago…

What was the thing he saw when he first came into the world? It looked a lot like…

"Stats?"

A screen popped up in front of him. Scaring the living crap out of the poor traumatized boy….

….Wait magic?
