Chapter 2: 2. I'm a Kid Again?!

The first thing I see when I open my eyes were two people.

There was a freckle-splashed woman with orange hair draping down her shoulders, whose eyes were glassy and tearful. The other person was tall and eye catching; he had navy blue hair which was parted to expose his forehead, and unique pear-coloured eyes.

"Let's name him Rei."

'Name who Rei? Now that I think of it, where am I?'

The couple were looming over me, and I felt a bit overwhelmed. But it's not enough to make me scared - I'm not a kid any more.

'Is she holding onto me? Why? No, that's not what I should be asking. Didn't I just die?'

I flail my arms around, a pitiful attempt at being freed.

'What... Why does my body feel so heavy?'

I look down, and to my surprise, there were fat rolls upon fat rolls. Not to mention, my body was extraordinarily small.

"Aww... Come here!" The woman squeaks, as she pulls me towards her chest.

'This can't be... I'm a baby?!"

-

It's been three weeks since I've been put into the body of a baby's. It's honestly frustrating being so small and chubby, but it's not like I can help it.

My two parents, Elaine and Aaron, aren't good at being parents. They are always fumbling and bumbling about, which ultimately causes panic and confusion. It's impossible to count how many times they've almost dropped me in just three weeks. But nevertheless, you can tell just by looking in their eyes that they don't mean any harm. I wonder, did my past mother ever look at me like that?

But the most noticeable thing about this world is the 'game menu'. It displays all of your skills, talents and stats. Everyone has a menu, and when you open yours, others can see it too. Well, at least I think that's how it works.

I opened my game menu for the first time yesterday. I wish I could've done it sooner, but turns out a baby's body functions differently than an adults.

My stats read as this:

Strength: 1

Agility: 1

Intelligence: 2

Stamina: 1

I'm pretty hopeless in all aspects, sadly. I also don't have any skills. But that's understandable considering I haven't done anything yet.

However, my talents were a different story. They read:

Musical Genius

This person has a natural connection with music.

Memory Genius

This person is has an extraordinary recollection ability.

Synethete

This person is able to see sounds as colours.

I was pretty shocked seeing my talents. Well, as shocked as a baby can be. My parents, who were with me at the time, were shaking in their boots.

Apparently, a 'Musical Genius' talent is as rare as a hero's special ability, and they hadn't even heard about the bottom two.

They had smiles stretching from ear to ear and were pacing excitedly back to front. But, their smiles rapidly faded and they slowed down.

They looked at me in the eyes, and my mother cupped my cheek with her right hand.

"Sorry, Rei. We'll try our best, okay?" She sniffled.

Her eyes were as glassy as when I was born. This was probably because we are a poor family.

The house has a dirt floor, with the only furniture being the bare minimum. They even have a pet chicken, Ryan, who lives in the house.

But what really settled the fact for me was the few times these people clothed in metal plates came knocking on our door, demanding money. My dad, whose the breadwinner of this house, would frantically reassure them that they would get money soon.

So, I don't think they'd be able to give me an education nor a musical instrument. I don't care much for the first one, but the second was really disappointing.

In my previous life, music was all I was good at. I was an average person in every way possible, so the only thing that made me stand out was my violin playing. So basically, take away music and I was worthless.

'Do they even have violins in this world...?'

I shake my head. 'I'll worry about that later. I have a more important task at hand here.' That task being: walking. Although I wish I could say I could walk right off the bat, I couldn't.

Believe it or not, young toddlers don't draw straight lines not because they don't want to, but rather because their bodies can't. And so it was difficult to adjust and get my body to do what I wanted it to do.

I crawl to the kitchen where my mother is. She's cutting up some carrots, probably for our lunch salad.

It was time to try to walk.

I shift my weight, and lift my arms off the floor. I autonomically swing my arms around to keep my balance.

'I-I did it!'

My mother notices me, and a galaxy of sparkles appear in her eyes.

"R-Rei! Y-you...!"

She falls onto her knees and stretches her arms out.

"Aaron! Come quickly!" She squeals out, causing my father to run to the doorway from the garden.

"What's wrong? Is everything okay?!"

He has long beads of sweat dripping down his forehead, was he out chopping wood?

"Look!" She cocks her head back to me, a slight crack in her voice.

'Is this that important to get emotional over?'

Anyhow, I was getting distracted.

I put my foot out, and I juggle my hands to keep balance. But I did it. I took my first step.

I take step after step, getting the hang of it in mere seconds.

My mother was crying a salt ocean, and my father was beaming.

'Is this what it's like to have supportive parents? Even mine never went this far...'

I smile.

'Well, I guess it's pretty nice.'
