Chapter 62: A Confession, a Question of Existing, and Interesting Conversation (2/2)

They walked like that up the road toward the Branch of Strength, with Wren breathing down Rowan's neck and Nicasi eyeing him as if he were planning on catching him if he stumbled again. Wren stayed hidden as promised, but it surprised Rowan that Nicasi couldn't feel the other man's disgust through the illusion considering Wren seemed intent on aiming as much of it at the adept as possible.

"How did you get Alaric and the novice on the horse?" Nicasi said as he nodded at a townsperson who passed by with a basket of what appeared to be medicines of some sort. "I don't think you could lift a flower at this point."

"Her name is Mara, and I could too lift a flower. Forgive me for being tired after dispatching three creatures, absorbing their poison, and getting that horse's ass on the horse's ass," Rowan snapped, then realized Nicasi was teasing him.
