Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Girls

National City, morning.

The scorching sun hung over the city, and the golden sunlight pierced the skin. The asphalt pavement made a slight "hiss" in the sun and sounded like a sizzling iron plate.

The black truck dragged the long carriage to the bank's door, and several people jumped from the back door of the carriage one after another. They wore masks of funny animal heads and shabby clothes that were not much better than homeless people and rushed through the bank door with all kinds of guns.

The gangster in the pink pig mask swept away the surveillance camera at the entrance with a shuttle of bullets, while the guy in the zebra mask grabbed the centre of the hall and swept an arc-shaped bullet hole against the ceiling. The angry voice shouted: "Everyone! Lie on the ground and don't move!"

The people in the hall panicked for a while but soon complied quietly under the threat of gunfire. A heroic guard subconsciously touched his gun belt and was swept to the ground by the gangster wearing a pig mask without saying a word, and he swallowed in his blood for a moment.

The hostages were so frightened that they did not dare to come out. The two criminals threw the wide burlap sack in front of the cashier behind the counter and ordered them to stuff as much money as possible into it. Two other gangsters patrolled the hostages with guns to make sure no one was doing anything outrageous, and one last stayed at the bank gate to keep watch for his accomplices.

Police in National City could get to the scene in as little as three minutes, long enough to get enough bills and get away.

Kodi Hawkins, just 25 years old this year, is a newly recruited police officer at the Nassino Police Department. Like many young men his age, he wore his badge with passion and ambition. Unfortunately, he was also among the hostages being held at this time. He lay calmly on the tall floor to observe the movement, like a dormant hound waiting for the moment to strike.

The zebra-masked gangster was yelling in dissatisfaction at a frightened cashier, briefly attracting the attention of the two patrolling gangsters, who soon realised it might be his only chance. Curtie silently reached for the pistol under his jacket.

But maybe today wasn't his lucky day. The gangster wearing the rabbit mask suddenly turned his head, noticing his small movements; the gangster's black muzzle turned around and shouted at the same time: "What are you doing? Don't move!"

Everyone's attention was attracted, and Cordy had no choice but to stop the movement in his hand.

While the gangster pointed the gun at him, he leaned down cautiously, took out the gun and police badge from his arms, kicked Kodi in the face in anger, and shouted, "There's a damn note here. !"

"Hey, calm down," his accomplice advised. "Don't make any more trouble; let's hurry up and get the money, and then..."

The gangster in the rabbit mask is not very mild-tempered. His accomplices have only half said what he has said, and he has pulled the trigger without hesitation. The rifle's muzzle spewed dazzling fire, and three bullets rushed out of the flames almost in no particular order, heading straight for the young policeman's back.

Shooting at such a distance is almost equivalent to the death sentence unless a miracle occurs.

Then a miracle happened. With a red and blue afterimage, she smashed through the hall ceiling like a cannonball and descended magnificently at speed far faster than a bullet. The graceful figure fell into the middle of the young policeman and the flying bullets with a pressing cyclone, blocking the way of the three deadly projectiles with her chest.

It was a girl with blonde hair, blue eyes, snow-white skin, and delicate facial features that made people feel pity uncontrollably. Her upper body was wrapped in blue tights, her slender legs were covered with over-the-knee red boots, and the red cape lifted by the wind pressure brought by the speeding landing flew like a battle flag, highlighting her sassy and heroic appearance.

And the most eye-catching mark she printed on her chest is the "S" mark. Once upon a time, this logo had special meanings all over the planet.

The atmosphere in the bank hall suddenly fell into a strange solidification, and everyone held their breath for the sudden arrival of this girl. The bunny mask gangster's eyes flashed a stern look as if determined to fight hard. He roared and pulled the trigger again, the rifle roared and spat out a long string of flames, and the rain-like bullets "crackled" poured on the girl, leaving only a little spark, and they sputtered all over the place. Part of it splashed beside the hostage lying on the ground, scaring everyone to scream.

Supergirl, a Kryptonian like Superman, has unreliable rumours that she is Superman's younger sister and was active in Nassino six years ago in the superhero era. Her status in Nassino was the same as that of Superman in the Metropolis, and she was a regular in the headlines of Nassino's major newspapers. But like other superheroes, she has rarely been seen in public since the apocalypse six years ago and has not been seen in the media since. While the rumour is that she is still watching over the city from the shadows, most people think it's just a rumour.

The super girl flickered as fast as a ghost and instantly flashed in front of the gangster. She blocked the muzzle with her body and pinched the barrel out of shape. The rifle exploded with a piercing cry, and the rabbit-masked gangster fell to the ground with a scream, his hands dyed blood red.

In an instant, the other gangsters stopped their movements, ultimately giving up the idea of resisting or even escaping. The gangster in the zebra mask, angry at the cashier, said: "Super...super girl? I thought...I thought you didn't exist anymore."

No wonder he thinks so; most people think so. She did not appear in newspapers, media, or official websites for six years with more significant influence. She only occasionally appeared on some private forums or small websites whose sources could not be verified, which is unreasonable. It is widely believed that the era of heroes is over and that superheroes have been a thing of the past since Armageddon.

The super girl looked directly into his eyes and replied lightly, "I'm real when I need it."
