Chapter 91: Lucifer "The Tale of Three Poisoning."

Lucifer sat in the corner of the hospital room, rummaging through Louie's phone. He had played a couple of rounds of the weird matching game and had to admit it was a bit more difficult than he expected. He did discover that if you matched four or more blocks, you'd get an item of some kind that would clear part of the board, but eventually, he got bored and decided to dig through the gadget Louie was constantly fiddling with.

Like most everything else, Lucifer understood how the phone worked, but he had never messed with it himself and found the small device fascinating. Also, he was learning a bit about his other half. For example, he really did never stop working. There was almost a constant log of calls or messages between him and the dukes, duchesses, captains, lieutenants, their father, uncles, and aunts. All seemed to do with Hell itself or the halfling species, and then there was his calendar. Every day was practically full from after breakfast till dinner, and then some nights, he had things to do after eating. After a few more clicks, Lucifer's eyes widened a bit. He had stumbled across a private message between Louie and a particular future duchess. The message consisted of a few naughty pictures, all coming from her. Lucifer didn't think much of it but figured his little Wife would be pretty upset if she knew about this. He scrolled a bit and realized quickly that these pictures seemed to be unsolicited, and if Louie responded, he seemed annoyed, telling her to stop and that he would be in touch when he needed her, but she didn't seem to listen. Lucifer rolled his eyes at the girl's desperate behavior though he imagined it would end after the theatre fiasco.

Lucifer poked around the screen a bit more till he found the option he was looking for. A small options box popped up asking him if he was sure about deleting the conversation, to which he pressed continue.

"What are you doing over there?" Kathrine Ann asked.

"Cleaning up a bit," Lucifer replied, sifting through other messages and deleting similar conversations with other women, primarily women at least.

"I don't know if Luce will appreciate you digging through his phone." She warned.

"Did you need something, Kathrine Ann?" He asked, ignoring the urge to reveal what he was doing.

"Azazel was asking about the poisoning situation, and you know a bit more about that than I do,"

"I see, but I thought Azazel wanted me to leave her alone?" He accused, locking the phone and slipping it back into his pocket.

"Lucifer, please?" She asked sweetly.

"That cute little plea and those big green eyes may work on Louie but not me." He yawned, stretching his neck.

"Fine, no cookie then." She huffed.

Lucifer rolled his eyes and stood from his chair, "What part do you wish to know, the attempted poisonings or the successful one?"

"All of it," Azazel replied, "I know about the shop owner and that Louie got nothing from him, but Kat said there was another attempt at the theatre?"

"There was. He was a little cowardly bastard who, unfortunately, had nothing useful to say either, though he did scream a lot. I like it when they scream." He smirked wickedly. "The Only thing we know for sure is that the person distributing the poison is a man, uses blackmail as a motive, and wears a cloak and mask to hide his identity."

"And that I'm the target." Kathrine Ann added.

"At least the two attempts, yes." Lucifer agreed.

"And what happened last night?" Azazel asked, "Do you even know?"

"I do, actually. Last night, Louie, in Louie fashion, made a stupid comment to Kathrine Ann, upsetting her. I wasn't really paying attention to that, but shortly after she stormed off, Milril showed up spewing his fortune-telling bullshit which was annoying enough to catch my attention. After that, he left, and Louie confronted me, saying we would not be fucking anyone else anymore. A declaration I wasn't happy about at the time."

"But you are now?" Kathrine Ann interrupted.

"No. However, I see no alternative if I am to get what I want." He answered, "Then he confessed his true feelings, which was uncomfortable, and I actually felt embarrassed for him. A heated kiss followed, then another boring dinner, and back to the room where Louie drank from a discarded glass of whiskey left on the liquor cabinet."

"Right, he poured three glasses." Milril chimed in, "One for me, one for him, and I assume one for,"

"My little Wife." Lucifer finished, "And the last person in that room before dinner besides Kathrine Ann and I was you, Milril,"

"Seriously!" Milril snapped, "This shit again? I left the room before you two did. I went to the kitchen ate dinner with my mom, and went back to my room until later that evening after everything had happened. Then I went to check on the Princess because I heard her and Micheal in a heated argument." Milril explained, "By the way, that guy is a huge dick. Does he really visit on your birthday to tell you—"

"Every year, but you have no room to judge," Lucifer hissed, "What was I again? The annoying shit, demon spawn, plague—oh no, I remember now, Louie's stupid pet,"

"Lucifer," Milril sighed, "I'm,"

"No!" He growled, "You went back to my room to see if you had succeeded in killing my wife." Lucifer accused.

"Why would I kill Kathrine Ann, Lucifer?" Milril fussed, throwing his hands up, "I have no reason to harm her or anyone!"

"I don't know, Milril. Why didn't you show up last night to plead your innocence instead of hiding like a little bitch?"

"Oh, I don't know, Lucifer. I had a weird inkling that you may try to kill me."

"Enough!" Thron barked, silencing the entire room. "I have had enough of you two's constant bickering, and I know I'm not the only one. Lucifer, Milril did not try to kill your wife and Milril. Will you just stop? You are not helping by constantly bringing up the past, especially since you've claimed for years it was partially your fault, and you understood Lucifer's desire to hurt you."

"I think it may be time we take our leave for the day." Kathrine Ann sighed, rising from her chair, "I imagine your father and brother will be back soon, and something tells me my Demon Prince's presence will not go over well with Alrion."

"My dad told me there was a bit of an altercation yesterday." She sighed, "I'm sorry, he can be such a hothead."

"It's okay, but with Luce unable to control the situation, I think it's best we scoot." Kathrine Ann explained, "I'll try to come to visit tomorrow. You can get the rest of the story then."

"If you can. If not, no worries, I'll be out of here soon enough." Azazel reassured.

Kathrine Ann hugged Azazel before walking past all the boys to the door, but a sudden grip on her arm stopped her. It was Lucifer. He pulled her back behind him and opened the door himself, "Don't need another sprained wrist."

"Thank you, Lucifer." She smiled genuinely.

"Don't think too much into it. I just want my cookie." He smirked and followed Kathrine Ann out the door.
