Lady Evelina Belle Beaumont Huxley and the distinguished English Duke Alexander Montague McAllister unexpectedly cross paths. While one is mistaken for a courtesan in the red-light district, the other is perceived as a scoundrel.

I really enjoyed reading the first chapter. Evelina seems likable right from the get go. The mystery man has got me rooting for him as well. Good job, so far
I should probably wait a few more chapters before dropping this, but no. I can't. This book is just too good, it makes me want to cry. The slow build up between the main characters is something to cringe at and like this book is definitely worth your time.
On the surface, this book follows the usual trope of an arrogant Duke trying to make a lady marry him. But underneath lie smaller, intricate pieces such as secret schemes. The protagonist, in fact, is not a timid female but she is well-informed of herself, her needs, and desires. One thing she despises and cannot stand is the concept of marriage. A reader may have to delve in and stay with this book to fully see how the protagonist’s aversion to the Duke will develop – will it transform into love at the end of the day? Overall, it’s a great read and definitely worth your time.
