Chapter 42: chapter 42: bold ones

It seemed I had gotten a bit too used to the extraordinary in the last few weeks. The crowd of students blocking the way out of the classroom consisted of some of the most ordinary individuals I had ever seen in this school. Most of them looked like regular humans, with only some having small mutations such as overgrown ears or teeth. They all looked ordinary, dull, and very weak. Them being bold enough to block our path was quite unbefitting.

"What business do you have with class A?" Tenya said in his classic formal, almost robotic tone.

"They're scouting out the enemy, idiot. We're the ones who made it out of the villain's attack. They probably want to check us out before the sports festival." Katsuki, rude as ever, answered as the crowd in question continued to murmur amongst themselves. It seemed Katsuki was not blind, unlike Tenya. He immediately ruined the good impression by cursing at the group of students as he tried to leave. I smiled. It seemed he would never change.

"I came to see what the famous class A was like, but you seem pretty arrogant. Are all the students in the hero course like this? Seeing something like this makes me disillusioned."

A lazy voice sounded from within the crowd, approaching the door until its owner stood before us. The voice belonged to a young man, a freshman as well, with messy, indigo-colored hair flaring out in large tufts around his head like a mad scientist. His eyes were purple as well, and they were sunken, with unnaturally dark bags beneath them. It was as if he had just woken up after an unhealthily short and terrible sleep.

I rolled my eyes. This purple-haired kid looked too weak to be acting so rude.

The baggy-eyed kid continued monologuing. "There are quite a few people who enrolled in general studies or other courses because they didn't make it into the hero course. Did you know that?"

I rolled my eyes some more. I could already see where this was going. I still let the kid finish. I knew manners.

"The school has left those of us a chance. Depending on the results of the sports festival, they'll consider our transfer into the hero course. And it seems they may also transfer people out."

The last statement shocked my classmates, including Izuku. I, however, was not fazed. To me, the outcome of this festival was clear before it had even begun.

The purple kid made an even more outrageous statement. "Scouting out the enemy? I, at least, came to say that even if you're in the hero course, if you get too carried away, I'll sweep your feet out from under you. I came with a declaration of war."

Who would have known a declaration of war could be so dull. My classmates' shock was very misplaced.

I rolled my eyes one final time as I walked towards the crowd. I had enough of this nonsense.

"You're an idiot, aren't you?" I said to the purple-haired kid.

"You're so jealous because you did not make it into the hero course that you came all the way here to rub in our faces the infinitely small possibility that you might take one of our spots? That is stupid for two reasons. First, and this goes for all of you," I gestured at the entire crowd. "Why are you even here? You say scouting out the enemy, yet you learn nothing from this endeavor. You have learned nothing of our strength, our intelligence, our quirks, or our habits. You come here with your "declaration of war" when you have not, and apparently refuse to put in even half the effort of any of my classmates. You are wasting your, mine, and everyone else's time on nothing. But all of that is not important. The real reason why you sound so stupid is simple."

I stood in front of the baggy-eyed kid, a mocking grin decorating my face. "You could not make it before. What makes you think you can do it now? We are here because we are better than you, and that will never change. So take your flock of idiots and your "declaration of war" and get out of our way. Or I'll make you."

Someone within the crowd was offended. "Hey! Don't get so full of yourself!"

I gave them a deadpan stare, not willing to waste another breath. Instead, I lazily waved my arm to the left. Immediately, the entire crowd of students collectively slid left, and my path was clear once more.

I beckoned at my three classmates whom I had just invited to my home. "Gentlemen, let's bounce."

And just like that, I left the classroom, under the incredulous stares of everyone around me, as usual. It seemed the two weeks until the sports festival would be long ones.
