This city holds the headquarters of three of the continent's biggest academies namely the Rainbow Academy which has existed since the founding of the Ashul Empire at the East, the Green World Academy which mainly accepts females at the West and the most prestigious and most recent of the lot, the Ashul Military Academy which has groomed countless experts in both the martial and medical areas in the North. Besides these three academies exist some smaller academies which are not to be neglected like the Asten Institute of Science and the School of Engineering.

It is said that it already existed before the great beast tide a few thousand years ago when mankind was for the first time confronted to the mutated beast. That battle shook the continent and mankind lost more than half of its population during that war. At the time, the Rainbow Academy was one of the first academies to find ways to fight mutated beast. They found that just as the beasts had evolved, thus had mankind. That's how martial arts which had been relegated to mere sports regained its long lost prestige. Alongside the martial arts, mankind discovered the way to make magic weapons, miracle medicines and mystic music. After decades of battle, both the human and the mutated beast which had already become demonic beasts made a truce. And the Rainbow academy was one of the main forces of mankind during that era which is why even after the years, even though the academy is dying, no one dares to offend its teachers and students as long as they are part of it.
Although the Rainbow Academy isn't what it used to be, one could still see by its sceneries its prestige. The surface occupied by the Rainbow Academy is as big as a city in one of those smaller countries thousands of years ago. Its gate was enormous with the words 'RAINBOW ACADEMY' cared on it in gold. Its roads were really broad, about forty meters wide. On the side of the road stood tall and large buildings. But if looked from above, one would find out that the grounds of the academy were full of trees and grasses.
In classroom in the Rainbow Academy, middle aged man was doing the raw call after ending his lesson.

"He is not in class sir" said a girl who is 13-14 years old with a black silver hair in a pigtail cut. She has a small and pretty face and her figure denoted and unveiled growth potential.
"where has he gone to again?" asked the teacher.
"Don't know. Probably the library" replied the girl looking at an empty seat beside her.
"That guy, if he has such time to spend in the library eh should focus on his training. With his potential I don't believe that he would still be at the Martial Disciple 9thlevel after four years…" said the teacher disappointingly. 
The man in question was actually busy reading a book. He was so focused that someone could easily come and still his purse on the table that he would not realize. On the tables and the floor around him were totally full of books, each thicker than the others. There was actually ten of such books on the floor and one could see that they had just been read by someone.
At that time, a group of students that was passing by noticed the engrossed Raphael a few steps away. Seeing how focused he was and the pile of books by his side, they were stunned. One of the students asked "Who is that guy? What a poser"
"yep! A real poser!" Replied one of his mates.
"is it a new way to hit on girls?" added another one.
"Silence! This is a Library!" asked a cold voice from behind them.
When the guys turned around to see who was asking, they were stunned. The one appearing behind them was a beautiful woman. She was brown skinned young woman seemingly in her late teens. She had black hair that rested in her slender shoulders. On her curvaceous body she was wearing a black female suit with high-heels shoes. The lot put together with her icy cold air on her face made her seems simply enchanting; if not for the plate of meals she was caring. Behind her were five other students, three boys and two girls holding a few dishes.
"Miss Michelle" said the students almost at the same time when they identified who the person was.
Michelle Aiden, the granddaughter of the Rainbow Academy's Dean Gordon Park, and a great genius. She is ranked in the top 10 experts below 30 in the Ashul Empire with a cultivation base at the 2ndlevel of the Martial Prince
Without a word she walked pass them followed by her crew. One of the boys behind her said while walking pass the crowd: "He is Raphael Lance" 
Hearing the name, all the students thought about someone. A legend which had shaken the whole city to the point that to everybody it was a myth: The Legendary bookworm. 
The group was shocked. They have heard about this legendary figure in the academy, just that they never believed those rumors to be true. 
Raphael Lance, a boy with the abilities to become a peerless genius in the martial way as he was born with great physical abilities and talent for the martial arts. It is said that when he was brought over by the Dean from the Dark demon Forest, he was seven years old and level 9 Martial Disciple already with a great battle power able of fighting opponents two-three levels higher than him. One has to know that most people only started training in the martial way at eight. While Raphael at that time was merely seven years old, yet had already trained to the peak of the first realm.  Although in the greater empires they wasn't a lack of geniuses who had cultivated to the peak of the Martial Disciple in a little bit more than a year, those geniuses usually came from those big families and were thus trained with the best resources, in the best environment by the best teachers. 
Compared to them, Raphael was definitely a commoner, at least before he was adopted by the Rainbow Academy's dean Gordon. But even then his talent was such that even with all those advantages, all those young geniuses from the great families were inferior to him at the same level. What was more shocking was that he had beat the crap out of a second layer Martial Master who had trained in high mortal grade martial arts in just three moves without any martial art.  
 But he became so engrossed in books that he forgot his training for four years. At the beginning the Dean thought that he was merely fooling around so he decided to probe him. Result, the Dean was scared off by the guy's deep theoretical foundation and exempted him from taking part in classes. He is such a bookworm that he often enters the library only to leave a few months later to go out to the forest for a month or two before going back straight to the library.
Now, it is said that only the Dean, Vice-Deans and some elders in the academy can match him in theoretical knowledge. Of course he still can't compare to the teachers because of his lack of experience. Rumour has it that he has already read hundreds if not thousands of books. A few meters away from them, Michelle was putting the plate on the table next to Raphael, who didn't seem to notice her. Having an I.Q. close to that of an infant due to the absence of memories, Flavian gradually grew to imagine the dungeon as his world and the black masked man as his closest person. Many times he felt like asking his teacher the meaning of the two words 'Flavian Reese', yet each time his subconscious mind screamed at him to never reveal those two words.

For two years, his life had been a journey amidst the mountains of books, where he learnt the common language employed by humans, and common languages of other intelligent beings like elves, dwarves etc. He was also taught about the geographical structure of a large area comprised of twelve empires, Lowenian Empire being one of them.

As the amount of knowledge he grasped increased, he started yearning for the outside world described within the books. He was told by his teacher that he would be allowed to exit the dungeon as long as he would be adept at everything that was taught to him.

At the age of twelve, he had finished accumulating enough knowledge that was required of him by his captors, and set him free from the dungeon. Before leaving the dungeon, he was presented with two books containing many words. He was asked to choose two words from within the books, which would be his name.

After he went through the books, he realised that the words 'Flavian' and 'Reese' were included in the books as names, that the people used as a unique means of address that separated a person from the masses and gave him/her a unique identity. He chose 'Flavian Reese' as his name after thinking about the whisper he had heard. After selecting his name, Flavian was ready to embrace the world in its true form.

Alas, the thing that awaited him was not the bright and sunshine filled world that he had imagined upon reading the books. It was a world filled with pain and suffering that was ready for him to fall in its claws. The desire to excel as well as the fear of defeat led to a growing sense of competition amongst the remaining captives. The sense of competition led to a rift amongst everyone, and the rift led to mutual distrust. This distrust further created mutual hatred, where each captive wished nothing more than the demise of others.

Hatred, known as one of the fundamental pillars of evil, can even blind the eyes of old and experienced folk, let alone a group of brats giving their all to survive. Darkness had wormed its way into the hearts of the captives through the door named hatred, as training became intense as the captives purposely sought to wound others, resorting to any malicious means possible to survive.

In fact, the sixth captive to disappear was not able to perform well in his test because he had been wounded on the sly by Flavian! Flavian was beginning to fall behind no matter how hard he tried. He couldn't escape the inevitable downfall using honesty, so he succumbed to the temptation of sin, using a crooked way to solve the problem he couldn't solve using the straight path.

The incident had occurred a week before he regained his memories of his past life. Flavian had been hallucinating about seeing the apparition of that captive due to the guilt he felt knowing that he had deprived someone of their life.

He was also the first person to suggest about escaping to everyone. As leader amongst the captives who garnered admiration of everyone, he quickly gained the support of majority. Even the minority that were jealous and envious of him did not object due to the bitter suffering they had gone through in the castle.

The escape plan was ridiculously simple. Every captive would use the bedding sheets and curtains to form a rope like structure. They would use the silence of the night to come together at Kapten's room which was coincidentally the closest to the ground. The makeshift ropes by everyone would be joined to form a single rope, which would be used to climb down the keep.

Kapten had taken up responsibility to swim across the moat and tie up the rope to a tree, to form a rope bridge. Everyone would use it to escape within the highforest and then run through a curved route towards the town under the cover of trees.

Hence, he used a sly method to know whether the system and its A.I. were able to read his memories and thoughts.

Either the A.I. really could not do the thing he feared, or was too sly to display such behaviour. Hence, he had to dig a pit for the A.I.

It was the middle of summer in Jiangchuan.
Outside an industrial Zone in the suburbs, an orange scooter nimbly drove around a bend, then stopped steadily next to the security post of a "Pengda Toy Factory".
After parking the scooter and taking out the key, Meng Lang looked up at the big sign that read "Pengda Toy" on top of the factory building and felt at ease.
It had been nearly a month since he woke up in this parallel universe!
In the past month, Meng Lang was first alarmed, but gradually became surprised and wild with joy. The change in his mentality was tremendous.
He had been a most common director of TV series and thought he would live this life sucking up to investors and directing cheesy soap operas. Transmigration was the last thing he had ever expected!
He probably had a little too much to drink with his producer the other night and the street lamp was flickering overhead. When he woke up, he was astonished when he realized that he was in the body of a young man in a parallel universe, who had just graduated from college.
The young man was called Meng Lang, which was identical to his original name. He had graduated from the computer science department of Jiangchuan University and was about to go back to his hometown to inherit the toy factory from his old man.
During the past month, Meng Lang combed through his current social connections and thanks to the convenience brought by the internet, he was able to find out the difference between this universe and the one he came from.
In simple terms, this world was identical to the one he came from in every way except for the literary and art circles…
Through some online research, Meng Lang was surprised to discover that some of the literature, movies, TV series, and animation works that existed in his universe were unheard of here. Instead, he found works here that he had no knowledge of. 
He was pleasantly surprised when he found out that different universes worked differently. This world attached great importance to intellectual property rights and piracy had been cracked down on to the point that these businesses had been wiped off the face of earth all together.
It gave him an opportunity to become the ultimate plagiarist!
After discovering that, Meng Lang could only think of one thing, which was to take advantage of the countless classic works he remembered and recreate all the literature, movies, and TV series in this world. That way, he would become an eminent writer and a great director who would get all the attention!
Once he was ready to put his plan into action, he realized something in embarrassment.
The premise of becoming a great plagiarist was that he could remember everything about his old world, which included reproducing verbatim all the books, songs, and scripts.
But… he wouldn't be able to do that. 
Take the books for an example; he had read more web novels than he could remember, but could at most only recall the general plot. It was impossible for him to make a complete copy of any of them. 
"Break through the Sky" was an awesome novel, wasn't it? He replayed the part where the protagonist broke off his engagement over a dozen times, but he couldn't even come up with a full paragraph.
So, bye bye to recreating books. But what about songs?
"What? I have to learn stuff first?"
That immediately discouraged Meng Lang. In fact, if he really were to go down the lane of music, with all the classic songs he could remember, he could create hit song after hit song with only general knowledge of them. 
The problem was that recreating songs wasn't profitable enough. He couldn't create tunes, so he couldn't sing them himself. If he were to sell a song, he would need a talent scout first, or he would only sell the songs for cheap.
After much consideration, Meng Lang finally decided what he would plagiarize!
Scripts! He would copy classic film and TV works from his previous life! He would be a writer-director!
It was the line of work he had been in. Although he was a director, he knew enough about screenwriting. After all, most of the time, the director who transferred words into images was the one who understood the script the best, rather than the screenwriter himself. 
Copying scripts wasn't difficult for Meng Lang, since he had watched ample films and TV works. Even if he couldn't recreate them to a tee, he could at least make 80% look-alikes.
After determining that he was going to become a "great director" by recreating existing scripts, Meng Lang began to consider what script would be the best. 
Movies?
It wouldn't work! He had watched the movies of this world. They weren't inferior by much to those made by Hollywood, if not of the same standard. Moreover, the script or story-telling wasn't even that important to a movie. The promotion campaign was the top most priority.
So what if the story was great? Without investment and promotion, the best film would remain unnoticed.
What if the film's hype was passed on by word of mouth? Could that lead to a soaring box office?
Who was he kidding? As someone who worked inside the circle, he recognized the sign of paid online ghostwriters promoting a film when he saw "great word of mouth".
It was possible for a film to reverse its box office performance because of excellent word of mouth, but as far as he knew, most of the sudden outbursts of public praise of films were false impressions created by PR, which derive from the fact that the production company lacked confidence in the films at an early stage and the PR decided to give it a trial run. If the trial indicated a great likelihood that the film would succeed, the PR would increase the promotion effort immediately, creating the aforementioned false impression.
He could get into films after he had earned some capital, which was something he didn't have at the moment.
The TV series became Meng Lang's first choice.
Big-budget productions were definitely out of the question. He wanted a low budget but high return.
Did such TV series exist?
The answer was yes!
"With the perfected copyright protection, peripheral products of films and TV works will definitely work!"
Ever since he knew how copyrights were so well protected in this world and that piracy had been destroyed once and for all, Meng Lang chose three scripts that would suit his plan the best!

But why did those three domestic feature shows have cheap special effects? The answer was simple.
It was because of their low costs and high returns!
The low cost was easy to obtain. After all, they were teen-friendly feature shows and the actors and actresses were all kids. It would cost him a couple hundred thousand yuan to hire all of them and he could also go easy on the already cheap special effects, making it even cheaper.
Most people probably didn't understand the "high return" part, but with a toy factory as his "family business", Meng Lang had a thorough understanding of peripheral products of films and TV works in this world.

With the cost of 10 yuan, plus the distribution channel, transportation, tax, labor cost, etc., although the toys were sold at 30 yuan each, they earned less than 5 yuan for each toy sold!
A world without piracy was just this frightening!
Meng Lang had decided to produce those three teen-friendly feature shows because of that realization.
Explosive Boys and Balala the Fairies had too many special effects. Even if they were all cheap effects, the expense would still be immense.
In comparison, Blazing Teens was the most ideal one. All that had to be done was to add some shiny effects to the yo-yos and throw in an embarrassing narrator, then the show was done!
Making the show itself wouldn't be all that profitable, but some friends would be made in the process. "I don't care if you watch it. As long as you buy my yo-yos, we're the best buddies!"
That thought settled Meng Lang's mind. With the script of Blazing Teens in his hand, he walked in.

It was a new day at the Pavillion and Bai Ling was even more determined to learn how to be the best spy this time had ever seen. Maybe it was her naivety or her natural tenacity but she had no doubts about her falling short of her goal. 

The days passed in a blur and Bai Ling began learning about many things this world had to offer. On days where she would be meditating, she discovered that the reason why the air was so pure and clean everywhere was because of something called chi that flowed throughout everything in this world. 

She didn't have much understanding when she heard the term for the first time but after reading and studying the books provided, she knew what it was. 

Bai Ling was amazed by how the world was structured and things that seemed like a fantasy before was now possible and more. 

When Bai Ling read, her mind expanded and she began to be more intuned with the natural surroundings around her. So much so that her body began feeling different. Her eyes were the most noticeable. 

Bai Ling would always get up early and climb to the highest point in the Pavillion then she would meditate for hours there. Since Bai Ling had been doing that for a few months now, she started to notice that the mist in the air was not only mist but glowing orbs that pulsed with warm energy.

This was one of the smaller changes that Bai Ling saw. When she read the books, it was one thing to fantasize about but to see such mystical things in real life, which twelve years old would be calm?

Bai Ling became even more excited to train her body and mind so she could see even cooler sights.

In the distance down the tower, a bell could be heard and it was a signal for Madam's birds to report for training.

After Bai Ling raced down the stairs, she saw a few of the girls already in their clothing. A few of them were on the tattered side but that was only proof of how much time they put into training themselves. 

Most of the girls in the class quit around the second month and went to the other wing to be an entertainer. Some even got lucky enough, according to some of the older girls, and got married to some of the young masters as concubines. 

It might have been because she was from the 21st century but Bai Ling knew that there was something wrong with how women behaved. To put it plainly, none of them had ambition to be more than what men told them to be. 

They felt like being married as the seventh wife of a rich man was better than making themselves stronger. 

The murmuring in the room got louder as Bai Ling moved through the crowd. However, she was used to it since she was always the source of gossip to these pubescent teens. She could even hear their chatter here and there as she made her way out into the courtyard. 

"There she goes again, she is not even greeting any of us!"  There were hums of agreement.

"She is looking straight ahead as if she doesn't hear us!"

"I bet she will be asked to demonstrate again."

"I can't stand her arrogance."

"She thinks she is better than us doesn't she?"

It was all chatter to Bai Ling, for she had other things to worry about. Like getting out of here one day. She was planning to leave this place so making friends was not a priority or concern of hers. For she had her sights set on other more meaningful things.

The class began just a little before nine o clock. Their master Teng Po was very excited about the upcoming events. He was practically bouncing instead of walking and it made the girls curious as to why their master was so unusual.

Everyone was at attention and waited until their master told them otherwise. Before Bai Ling knew Teng Po, she hated him. After getting to see him in action and knowing him, she could tell that he was a nice enough man. 

A bit lustful but never crossed a line when demonstrating with a girl. He was also straight-forward and a strict teacher as well. They were not the best of friends but he was the only one she didn't hate here.

"Morning ravens, today is a special day in this academy. Now, we have done defense, offense, poison, weapon, stealth and culture training. Today, we are moving forward from the basics and into the real training."

All the girls but Bai Ling stiffened but dared not to break stance in fear of being punished. 

"We are going to be moving into more advanced training where you will have to learn what pain, torture, and hell is really about." 

Teng Po was not one to sugarcoat or exaggerate. What he said was what he meant. This meant that what was to come was far worse than what they have been through. There were nights were some of the girls almost died when building resistance to the various poisons. Some haven't even recovered yet. 

Some were bruised from fights that happened weeks ago and some were too sore to walk.

So to be told that there was worse coming for them, no one was welcoming this change with open arms.

      I zoomed past Gabrielle and said, "I'll see you second period!!" and ran as fast as I could. 
     "Hey!!! Wait!!!" she yelled to me. 
       Not really hearing her, I checked my watch. 'Crap!! 7:56!!!! Class starts at 8!!!' I thought in desperation. 
       I went to my HR, grabbed my books, and ran for my first class. 
       I made it in my seat as soon as the bell rang. 
      Mrs. Thatcher called Gabby's name and she said, "Here!" as her foot staggered through the door just in time. 
       Gabby is my next door neighbor and bff since forever ago. My other best friend is Louis Bradley, who's been my bestie since we met in 2nd grade. 
            They always have my back. 
       Gabby runs track, Louis plays baseball, and I play volleyball. We are 3 out of the most athletic teens at school (according to what I've heard). My dream is to become a star volleyball player all throughout this year's sophomore year, and the rest of of my life!!! and when I'm too old I'll coach the best team in the wo-

    'Is he gonna bullie me worse than ever before?! Is he gonna somehow make me not be able to continue my dream as a star volleyball player??!!! Wait!! What about my grades?! He might somehow make them go down to F's or something!! But why would he do that?! Why does he not like my name?? 😖😵' I thought frantically in defeat. 
     I opened the note, it read:

         At this point I was really scared of what was going to happen. 
       The bell rang, and it was time for the next class.
