However, I have made some changes and I have corrected errors and I wanted to restart it.

Hello readers! It's me, Ate Janz, bringing you another fantasy story to read. So before proceeding to read the entire story, I want to emphasize about its plot, characters, world and time setting, spells and update schedule.
First of all, the plot of the story was taken from one plot suggestion given by Web Novel in its annual Spirity Awards where I also joined, under fantasy category... wherein it asked us to create a story with FL pretending to be a guy just to learn magic in a magic academy since boys are the only ones allowed to learn magic.
So instead of completely following that, I added the random plot that I was thinking for days now with a little help from my all-time fave animated show Avatar: The Last Airbender. Remember back in the Northern Water tribe where girls are only taught waterbending for healing only? That's one of my inspirations for this story.
And this is not connected to my first story The Witch Hunt. Although they have the same kingdom name, since I'm too lazy to think of any kingdom names, they are completely different stories. Not a sequel at all.
Second, the characters are taken from google except for the other one, which is Lancelott. His character design is inspired from a Mobile Legend Hero: Lancelott. Other names are either randomly came into my head or were searched through several name generators.
Third is the world and time setting. The world setting is in Gilead, an imaginary kingdom designed by the author with the help of my best friend google. The time setting is in the modern medieval period. However, I would like to inform you that I am not that knowledgeable of it, so forgive me if you'll see some unnecessary things in the chosen setting.. like a flying car perhaps.
Nah. Just kidding with the flying car thing, only to give you an example.
Fourth, I would like to talk about the spells used in this story. Most of the spells used here were from Disney's Wizard of Wavery Place and Harry Potter. But I may also add my own words and let google translate do its magic of translating those into Latin. :D
Lastly is the update schedule. Updates will be daily since this story is for the WPC 141: Royal Romance. I hope you could support me by giving me your power stones, feedbacks, and book reviews.

This hunk of mass that seemingly blotted out the starry sky, the clouds, the light, was different than other stars. It was constructed from tangible, animated elements!
On its colorful surface, there were red searing flames that flowed beautifully through the world, emitting scorching heat that felt hotter than everything in existence; There were blue liquid that formed endless tsunamis and monsoons; there were teal-colored wind that formed hurricanes, tornados, and twisters that ravaged without end; there was brown-colored earth that filled the surface, forming mountains and hills; there were silver-colored spikes protruding from the world, reaching as high as the heavens; there were yellow lightning that crackled and erupted with vigorous thunderous sounds from time to time; there was green trees that pierced into the sky and beyond; there were orange and black viscous fluid that scorched all it touched; there was cyan-colored mountains made of ice with endless snow falling.
This was the Mortal Star Formation Tribulation for his Divine Elemental Natal Soul!
Wei Wuyin's heart grew unfathomably calmer, eerily so, as he faced this star that seemed to consume his visual sense. This was because he could see! With his Celestial Eyes, he saw that truth of this tribulation!
It was merely an illusory manifestation that was constructed from the energies of the world it contaminated. It was gathering the energies that perfectly adhered to his Natal Soul, and this energy was undergoing a phenomenally miraculous change, as if it was being refined and evolved into a higher state of existence. 
In fact, a smile tugged at his lips. His fear was obliterated and was replaced by surging anticipation. From the beginning, he felt that the Mortal Star Formation Tribulation was a gate that served to hinder cultivators from advancing, but his eyes saw the truth. Within this enhanced energies were the secrets it wished to instill into his Natal Soul, to evoke its transformation, to allow it to create this type of higher energy form!
It wasn't a gate; it was a teacher!
Those who were incapable of handling its lesson simply meant they were unworthy, insufficient to comprehend and reach the next level. Cultivation was difficult. This was the story, the mantra of the cultivation world, and it seemed it was true! It was difficult to truly see, to truly understand.
His elemental qi started to surge around him, various elements manifested around his body as he decided to face this tribulation entirely. All his preparations before were thrown away. With his ability or permanence, he had prepared over the course of three years an ocean's worth of elemental qi that could be sent to protect or defend.
With it, he could have brought thousands of Astral Core Realm cultivators to their deaths, and he felt certain that he could overcome any restrictive, destructive tribulation that came and survive! However, that was not the purpose of this tribulation, of this trial. If he did that, he would be utterly unable to absorb all of these lessons it wished to teach! The secrets of Elemental Energies!
He allowed the qi to thoroughly invigorate his physical body. He withstood the oppressive aura, and awaited its arrival. 
His intentions were felt by the Divine Elemental Natal Soul, and it brightened up considerably within his dantian. In its current pseudo-Astral Soul state, it started to spiritedly palpitate causing waves and waves of elemental energies to flow.
Wei Wuyin felt an abrupt sensation of desire and epiphany from the Divine Elemental Natal Soul. "You want to?" He asked with a wisp of disbelief in his eyes. All he felt in response was boundless yelping of desire and want. 
"Alright!"

He had renamed his Externalized Qi Heart Method, narrowing it down to a single artful act as he executed it, giving the Divine Elemental Natal Soul to externalize from his body! For the last three years, he had tried to thoroughly improve this art, and he had succeeded, somewhat! By utilizing the Zenith Mortal State, and the profound power of permanence, he could create a permanent link between it and him, allowing it to externalize for an indeterminate amount of time.
Unfortunately, it still needed one thing!

From his robe, a strand of white mist flowed and hurriedly transformed into a perfect doppelganger of his own. It even had its own storage ring that connected to a unit of his Sky Palace, so the moment it formed, it dressed itself in his alchemist robes! Within a blink, the Divine Elemental Natal Soul zipped into the Avatar, forming an imperceptible yet perfect connection with it.
When it opened its eyes, its eyes were without pupils, irises, and its normal sea of water was taken over by illusory and colorful manifestations of the nine elements! 
「Avatar Art: False God Elemental Avatar」
The two arts conjoined, becoming one, yet tied entirely to himself. With a thought, the Elemental Avatar looked up above and shot off with billowing wind. 
"It's entering the star?" While the star was illusory, it contained the essence of the next realm within. The star seemed to start to undulate, as if it was about to attack, but this wasn't an attack. It was a deliverance of information directly to the Natal Soul! However, it was no longer obstructed by his fleshy body, and was exposing itself entirely as it seemingly vanished within the Mortal Star!
Wei Wuyin saw it enter like a rock entering water. While he knew it was an illusory, the various forces and energies within this illusion was true! 
"Ya! Ya! Oooooooooh!!!" - Divine Elemental Natal Soul.
"..." Wei Wuyin's expression darkened as he heard that sound. It sounded like...a moan? While the Divine Elemental Natal Soul was within the Avatar, it was still fully connected to him. Just as he was about to scold the Divine Elemental Natal Soul for playing around, his body stiffened as he looked below.
His eyes bulged slightly as he noticed the considerable tent that formed on his pants. 
His expression became unfathomably dark as the various sensations of the Divine Elemental Natal Soul was transmitted. He was just about to sever this specific connection when his eyes glowed with various multicolored lights! These lights were violently combating each other for superiority, melding and breaking away, but they were determined in their intent!
Intent!
Their INTENT!
He felt a wave of elemental truth course through his sea of consciousness, and they contained the basis of each element, like the pieces of a complete puzzle that was oddly cut. This odd cut lacked something so that each puzzle piece could seamlessly fit.
It needed a hand. A hand that could guide each one to each other.
Various memories surfaced of the characters written in the book he obtained from at the Martial King's Dao Pavilion—Elemental Origin Intent - A Guide of Nine into One. This detailed literary manual with these puzzle pieces allowed his hand to move in a profound manner, like a guide that could solve this puzzle!
He knew it wasn't just him completing the puzzle. The Divine Elemental Natal Soul was obtaining the pieces! The multicolored lights were vigorous and relentless in their crushing collisions, but soon...one plus one made one, dropping the total number of remaining strands of light into eight!
Eight into seven! Seven into six! Six into five!
It continued as the pieces of this puzzle were being placed one by one until finally, all the lights vanished as an unfathomably pure white light that seemed to embody all colors in existence emerged! 
From within his eyes was an Intent formed from nine basic elemental intents! Elemental Origin Intent! Wei Wuyin felt his heart throb in excitement, and at the last moment, his entire body shivered in orgasmic pleasure!
"Ahh! O.. Oh!... Aghh! AHH!!" The moment the moan was fully left his throat, his sense of self and clarity returned, the excitement dispersing immediately as he regarded his pants that were now soiled. His eyelids twitched, feeling very conflicted at the moment. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Fortunately, when he finished, so did the Divine Elemental Natal Soul as the Mortal Star that was thriving above started to dissipate abruptly, as if it had performed its job. It seemed to be returning to wherever it should. 
Taking several deep breaths, he calmed his mind as he ignored everything and explored this new Intent that was circulating within his Sea of Consciousness! According to the manual, the Elemental Origin Intent can merge all elements into elemental origin energy that can exhibit freely any, all, or a mixture of qualities of each element. Furthermore, it can amplify each other in mutual benefit. In this way, his Elemental Origin Fire Qi would be nine-fold stronger than Elemental Fire Qi. 
If he wanted, he could allow fire to freeze, ice to scold, earth to solidify with the density of metal, or metal to become as fluid as water. This interchangeable state was exceptional, however, as he explored further, he realized this wasn't supposed to be his limit.
There were missing pieces, and while he could complete the smaller puzzle, he couldn't complete the larger one. 'Heart of the World, World of the Elements Intent? Elemental Heart Intent!' He immediately realized what he was missing.
If water, fire, earth, and wind could be considered basic Elemental Intents, then so could metal, lightning, wood, magma, and ice; however, he lacked advanced Intents for the four elements! He had Steel Metal Intent, Violet Lightning Intent, Life Meadow Wood Intent, Blazing Inferno Magma Intent, and Absolute Zero Ice Intent, but he lacked the appropriate pieces for the other four.
His eyelids twitched for a moment, but he quickly settled down. This wasn't a concern.
Woosh!
His Avatar returned, and immediately dispersed into grey mist as it lost its connection to the Divine Elemental Natal Soul, and in a flash, the Natal Soul returned to his dantian.
It was currently undergoing a transformation! A transformation into becoming an Astral Soul, forming an Astral Core, building a World Sea, and filling it with Astral Force!

Summery of chapter 8

Both republic city and the southern water tribe are falling apart, the avatar and Hiroku were captured. Everything is looking bad, the chances of winning are getting slimmer for Yin.

Scene 1

Location: the southern tribe 

*Nova waterbended at a triangle and turned it into ice which gave her enough time to open its door. She entered and hit the crew then waterbended inside of the engine to destroy it, and she succeeded at that. They now knee what to do with the triangles, thry need to repeat it, fast*

Scene 2

*Hiroku atarted bloddbending himself, at first he did the minimum possible because his chi paths were locked, but one thing about bloodbends is that they control chi paths as they please, which is exactly what he did. He then waterbended at his mom making her fall. The guards quickly tried to stop the water from hitting them as others put him in a sealed black bag, that was the only way to stop a waterbending master from waterbending*

Yin: STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HIM?? STOP IT  

*he hit the glass box multiple times until he broke down in tears, he sat on his knees crying, feeling so weak, he couldn't protect his boyfriend, he couldn't keep the precious gift from shango, the fire ring, he couldn't save the water tribe, he couldn't get the airbending trick right, he just did, nothing. Katsumi's smirk grew bigger as she saw him in defeat* 

Scene 3

Location: Republic city 

*all citizens were working togethers, benders trying to capture the spirits so that the 3 apiritbenders can take care of them, and non benders with the available technology helping injured people with all they can. Jinora was there, and she felt a massive wave of discomfort"

Jinora: Yin isn't ok 

Kai: what? 

Jinora: I can feel it, something is wrong 

Kai: well we have our own problems to deal with here, he has company, I'm sure they will help him 

Jinora: it still doesn't sit right with my spirit not to check on him. I'm gonna go, you can do well without me 

Kai: take care of yourself 

Jinora: I will 

*and with that she left them to deal with the spirits, went on an airbison and left*

Scene 4

Location: the southern tribe 

*some of the citizens hanged up on one of the triangles and waterbended all over it then turned water to ice and bended it deep into the ocean. Then they all attempted to attack the airships which were too fast. Jinora arrived*

Nova: hey 

Jinora: why do you always sound so dry? 

Nova: are you here to judge me or to help us stop those monsters

Jinora: since I'm here I might as well do both 

*Jinora bended herself up to dodge an attack from one of the airships, then she went down and created a strong air tornado, it started sucking some ships inside of it*

Jinora: waterbende at the tornado so that the water could enter the ships to break them 

*all waterbenders eho were close to her did as she said and the planes did break*

Niko: thank you so much, we can handle the rest on our own *they all left but Nova*

Jinora: where is Yin? 

Nova: he fainted before the attack and we put him inside, when the atrack started I asked Hiroku to go get him to safety and I haven't seen them since, maybe they went and hid somewhere 

Jinora: no, I'm feeling that the avatar is in danger, i don't think they're safe. Take me to where he last was 

*they went to the now destroyed house. Jinora took a meditating pose*

Jinora: I'm feeling his spirit, he's there *she pointed at the water*

Nova: the ocean? 

*Jinora nods* 

Scene 5

Location: Republic city 

*one of the spiritbenders who work for Kataumi got a command from her from the walkie-talkie*

Katsumi: I want you all to back off, go to the spirit world, search for the mother of faces which I know where she is, and spiritbend her and put her in the southern tribe, tell her that the avatar killed her son, Koh so that she would get really angry

*After they got the order and went the door of Katsumi's underground base opened and Jinora and Nova came inside and started fighting with the guards and Katsumi. The fight went on until katsumi threw a metallic shard at Jinora breaking through her skin and crushing her spine making her fall down helpless, Jinora died that simply, after making it through the toughest times, just a small shard. Yin saw what happened, he fell down on his knees from the weakness he felt, his eyes glowed bright, he slowly got up, took a deep breath, and parted his hands,  as soon as he did that, the glass cage opened, he stepped out of it and said 'the only way to make peace is by serving justice' and he bended the glass and made it all into shards and sent them. They ripped right through Katsumi and her guards' bodies killing them all. Yin then got out of the avatar state, freed Hirolu then headed toward the lifeless laying body that is Jinora. Hiroku bloodbended her body to see if she's alive, she wasn't. He shook his head and Yin understood that the reason he even made it out of master ushi's place is no longer here with him.

Anger, hopelessness, weakness, and all of those emotions were the perfect mixture to create an avatar that's out of control. His eyes glowed yet again, and he headed outside, he reached the southern tribe in seconds, but Yin didn't wasn't there, Korra was. She bended the ocean and drowned the whole place, after airbending he citizens away. She created the biggest tornado in mankind, running through the whole tribe, ending all of those flying life takers. Back at Republic city, the spiritbenders knew what happened, one of the people that were on the planes told them before crashing, so they all went to the spirit world, where they would be executing plan B. 

Scene 6

Location: the spirit world

*the spiritbenders made their way through a deep dark swamp, and at the middle of it they found who they were looking for, the mother of faces
Little explanation: 

The mother of faces was never shown in any of the ATLA or TLOK animated series, but it sure showed in the comic books, the mother of faces is a spirit that has the ability to give you a completly new face and according to the comic books, she is Koh's mother (Koh is the face stealing spirit avatars Aang and Yin have met)

The Explanation has ended

*they all bowed down to her then one of them spoke*

The spiritbender: it indeed is an honor meeting a spirit with such high calibre. We came here to inform you that your son, Koh, has been killed by the new ruthless avatar, and we are trying to put a stop to him, we need your help 

The mother of faces (angry): my son Koh died? Is that why I was feeling upset these days? Where is the avatar? Take me to him 

The soiritbender: we sure will 

*they all bended water around her and turned it purple, making her an evil spirit, and she ent from her normal self to her "evil spirit" self, she became a deep dark violet and so did the faces surrounding her.

Sorry for the short chapter, but it needed to stop here or else it would become as long as two chapters, because once I start the next scene I would only be able to end it very late. Also glassbending!! Since the main ingredient of glass is sand it makes sense, I've been wanting to spoil it so bad and now it's here, glassbending will be explored and explained further more in book III. Avatar Korra died, and the new avatar was born in a dark era where evil surrounded him from everywhere and everyone, even his own self. This earthbending avatar will have to go through a lot, make hard decisions and sacrifice a lot of things and people to restore harmony and peace into the spirit and material worlds. Let's accompany him throughout his tough journey, and discover how he will become, a true master.

Ken finished setting up the game and gave me a controller to use. It was a controller you hold with your two hands, not too big, just the right size, with a couple of buttons and analog sticks on each side. I had to create some sort of "Game Station" account to save my progress.
"You'll be thankful you just need to create an account and save your progress on the hard drive of the console itself," he kindly informed me as if that's something I should feel extremely grateful about. "On the earlier versions, we had to use memory cards and save our progress a LOT of time to make sure we don't end up repeating the whole game from the start."
I tried to ponder what he just said. Luckily, I had been gifted by wits so even if what he said was a bunch of jargons to a non-gamer like me, I somehow understood it. This was one of the times I felt glad being a quick learner.
"I see… kinda like how our current phones worked with memory cards. If we don't have enough storage in the phone, then we use the memory cards. Unless we sync our files or pictures there, then nothing gets saved and we lose them all. Having hard drives in consoles is indeed convenient—just needs a large memory capacity."
"Yes! Exactly!" he agreed to me with a bit of a surprised face. I guess he didn't expect me to understand what he said.
"Uhhh…," Hora grunted, mulling over something. "I give up. I have no clue what you two are talking about."
"Pft! Ha-ha-ha-ha!" we laughed at her cuteness. Hora's really adorable.
After a good laugh, I started playing the game. Hora sat near me on my right, carefully watching the game unfold. She seemed to be deliberating if it's a game she'd like to play or not. Ken was on my other side, giving me tips and instructions on how to do certain things. Having them beside me was fun. Sometimes I wish that they're my brothers and sisters by blood.
The game started with me creating a character—an avatar. There were lots of options to choose from. From hairstyles and color, to eye shape, nose, lips, height, complexion, even the clothes that the character wore. I could even change my gender to male if I wanted to. There were presets too in case anyone's too lazy to customize but I enjoyed myself by creating my own character. I mostly chose how I looked in person—ginger orange hair, emerald green eyes, a bit of a rosy white complexion, pretty tall nose, thin lips, etc. I adjusted my eyes by making it like that of a doll—round almond shape, that slants up a bit at the edges. I thought it made my avatar look prettier.
"Wow! Those are really pretty eyes! Just like yours," Hora complimented me.
"Huh? That's not how my eyes look like," I disagreed because my eyes were just normal ones.
"Yes it does," she argued.
"I agree," Ken just joined the argument.
"But it's really not." Now, I'm confused. I started doubting if that really was the case.
"You're very beautiful, you know," Hora continued. "You just don't accept compliments because you're too critical about yourself. But in truth, our classmates think of you as an unreachable queen."
"What?! You're kidding. There's no way that's true. It's bad to lie, Hora."
I felt Ken's stares prickling me. Turning to him, I said, "Yes, Ken? Anything to say? And don't you dare lie—"
"It's true," he cut me off. "You really are beautiful." He said that with a very serious face that my heart almost jumped out of my chest.
I quickly turned the other way. Blood rushed over to my face. I must have looked too red right now. That was really embarrassing. Hora's right on the part that I'm not good with compliments. Ugh. I felt so embarrassed I wanna hide somewhere. Come on ground, go swallow me up.
In my attempt to escape the scenario, I pressed the "start" button and a loud upbeat music played, along with some 3d animated scenes. Fortunately, the sound caught their attention and we all continued the game. I went with story mode first and Ken helped me with the controls.
Hours passed as I played. Hora was interested in the beginning but she got bored midway. She always preferred simulation games or anything that involves designing something rather than fighting. In contrast, I think I'm getting hooked into the story of the game. Everything had been entertaining so far, maybe except for the fact that I had to grind by killing monsters over and over on some parts. I just wanted to get on with the story but I couldn't because my level was still low. Just a few more of these useless fights to get experience and I'd be irritated.
As I struggled leveling up, I didn't notice that the sun had already set. Ken and Hora fell asleep on the couch beside me, using my lap as their pillow. What nice friends I had. No wonder I felt my thighs were beginning to get sore. I put down the controller for a moment and flicked their foreheads, waking them up. Afterwards, we went down to eat dinner. Mom and dad were still not home and my younger brother was holed up in his room. Thanks to that, dinner was rowdier than usual. Once done, I bid them farewell since they needed to go home of course. Good thing we didn't have any assignments that day.
I felt a bit sad with them leaving, so I decided I'd just go to shower and sleep.
As I slumped myself to bed, trying to sleep, I was reminded of the fact that I still needed to talk to my dad which I wasn't ready for yet. Trying to retreat from reality, I went back to the game I left running.
"I want to escape from reality a bit more but I'm too tired grinding. I don't want to kill a bunch of monsters anymore," I complained to myself. 
Then, I remembered Ken mentioned about the 2nd mode—an open world version. Thinking that, I decided to try it out, and this time, without guidance.

My reminiscing end abruptly and my danger sense went crazy and I instantly dove to the right to avoid a dive bombing attack from an aerial soulbeast. As roll back to my feet crouched near a tree, I scan the sky for my attacker.  It's fast, and using the trees to avoid line of sight.  Eventually I see it's a winged snake thing with an over sized maw filled with large teeth.  It's aura tells me it's a rank two soulbeast, and it's speed and intelligence while hunting tells me that I have my hands full.

As it darts effortless through the trees aiming to catch me at an disadvantage, I keep the tree near me encase I need to duck behind it.  I easily lose track at the darting beast, until the sixth sense warned me of danger and I instantly dove to my left this time.  Barely able to dodge a tail strike that left a small smoking crater where I was just standing.  The sudden release of a thunderclap nearly landed on my head as it's lightning infuse tail swooshed past my diving form to strike the ground.
Again I roll back to my feet and slash for the sake of taking some action to miss so miserably as I see the snake beast has already flown well out of range and sight.  The damn thing had flown up and behind me to avoid my sight and down through tree branches to make that last attack on me.  What a crafty bastard, and I immediately take off running the opposite direction. As I ran I tilt my head back and forth hoping to catch sight of my new prey.

I catch glimpse of it as chase after me as it zips between trees as does it's best of avoid line of sight.  I prepare a simple spell called flash, all it does is create bright flash of light that will blind the intended target for one exchange.  Trusting in my sixth sense, I wait until just before I need to dodge to spin around and cut loose with the flash spell.

I am greeted with a sudden hiss of alarm and I see the soulbeast's instincts to cut it's forward momentum away from the blinding light.  I took that window of opportunity to slash it in half.  The squeal of pain fill my ears as it sudden beat it's wings to rise out of reach.  I watch the bisected soulbeast reconnect it's two halves in an instant and smile as it continue to hiss in pain.
I see it's rage filled eye glare at me in hatred and proceed to dive once again to challenge me. I happily exchange blows and smile as the hiss of pain fill my ears once again.  I quickly drink a cure poison potion to allievate the burning sensation in my soul.  We clash a couple more time before it finally fled in anger.   That the problem dealing with aerial prey, they have a tendency to flee when the going get a little to rough for them.  I lean on a tree and drink another cure poison potion followed by a healing potion.

I glance around me wondering if it's truly gone, after a bit I sighed and started hunting again, that would have been a good soul to have.  I found myself smiling as I march, with a bit of thought realize I am happy because just traveling a day further out from my home I can already meet such dangerous prey.  As I explore I annihilate rank one soulbeasts and occasionally reduce my stash of cure poison potions.

As I the days past, the number of rank two soulbeast escaping before I can finish them off is depressing me.  I deal with my depression by hacking apart any vermin that dare to covet my soul.  I also realize why my seniors have pets and follower, they are needed to keep prey from escaping.  I really needed to get home and work on that, and was sorely tempted to let myself get killed so I could go soulmist and return to my shrine instantly.  But after all the hard work I put in to hunt them, losing some by going soulmist just wasn't an option to me. So I trudge through the mire as I headed home, just another day of exploring this unchanging landscape to deal with.  
With that in mind, I decide a change of scenery was in order, so I move closer to the border of my home to see the grassy plains filled with herds of spiritbeasts.  I watch a Hellion Wyrm emerge from the ground, it's about the size of eighteen wheeler.  Four heads extend from it's back to rise up nearly twenty feet into the air to scan the surrounding area before diving back into the ground.  
Packs of Iron Wolves frolic as the race helter skelter through the grasslands.  Flights of Sky Mantas patrol the skies.  It's a strange sight, but it makes my stress fade away as the feeling of home infiltrate my very soul.  

My prayers makes the connection to my master stronger and empowers my faith to unbelievable heights, but seeing this fortress that I call my home just calms my soul like nothing else could.  Tired of trudging though muck that seem like an eternity, I enter the sun lit grasslands and simply enjoy the fresh earthly air.

A pack of Iron wolves instantly veers to intercept me.  I simply raise my right palm and my living tattoo of Lord Death's symbol creep over the skin of my arm to finally stop on my palm.  The Iron Wolf alpha growls a "welcome home two legged brother!" before dashing away with his pack.  I return "thank you brother wolf, good to be home, may your race with the wind prove fruitful!"  I receive a howl of gratitude.  So it's true, since soulbodies don't tire, Iron wolves never stop racing for the fun of it.

Perhaps I should learn the Changeling Magical field of study as I watch the frolicking Iron wolves as they dash and leap while on patrol. My quest to the border would have taken only half a day at most if I could change into a body of an Iron Wolf, then I looked up at the Sky Mantas and realize flying would be also an option.

As time passes, I eventually make it to the north gate and made my way to the training grounds to report in.  It's was a bit of a hassle since I took so long, but when I said I took a quest to the border and handed my quest token.  My instructor suddenly laugh in surprise and said the quest was suppose to come after the hunt.  He clapped shoulder and said well done and told me to report back in two days.

So I headed to my shrine for prayers and sacrifice ten of the rank two souls to my master before allowing my true soul absorb me into his soul.  In my personal shrine is where my true soul resides, I inhabit a soul avatar when I go out adventuring.  I can create an avatar by using a part of my own soul.  However I can use any soul copy of the same rank as fuel for it's creation. In this way I can make a complete copy of myself to use as an avatar rather than a weak ass shadow.

I'm glad to see I still have six rank two soul left to make into avatars or followers.  With a thought to my upgrades screen appear on the inside my retinas.  I see I have been granted forty upgrade points, gaining twenty for sacrificing ten rank two souls, ten for the hunt and ten more for the quest. 

So I take forty rank one souls and refine the into my soul to improve my own strength.  I decide to purchase Enchanting to level two that cost my five points for level one and another five points to get it to level two for the total cost of ten points.  Then I increase Construct to level two as well leaving me twenty upgrade points left.  Since I'm going the magic route, I then purchase Magic Talent to level two in the same way.  

Magic Talent is useful, each level increases the maximum potential for critical damage or effect with any magical spells.  An added benefit each level also grants critical magical resistance against hostile spells.  Magic Talent is what makes the difference between true wizards to hedge mages.  The mentality would be 'no better than those idiot warriors with a bit a magic skill, utter distain, and publicly labeled trash.' 

I spend the last ten points to improve my overall combat abilities, I purchase level one might for five points which allows me to cause critical physical damage.  Then bought level one resilient to help resist that kind of damage.  Once the purchase are complete I feel my soul evolve to the upgraded levels.  The knowledge of the new four level of magic knowledge percolate into my mind as I meditate.  From my initial training, my level one Evocation and level one Divination racial magical fields now seem inadequate.

First thing I did after my upgrades is to examine the remaining rank two souls and picked out the strongest.  The soul copy of a Gnoll race, it's two short horns and large downward pointing ears with short straggly hair growing only at the base of the skull. He stands nine feet tall and covered with fur and is a large race.  Which basically means racial points learn more to the melee build, which is what I want a front line grunt.

With summoning magic I revive the soul into a faithful follower.  My level two summoning combine with my level two magic talent gives my four free upgrades or I can spend one upgrade to switch any two skills in the same category of my new tank.  This soul's was raised as warrior archer build with a class as a ranger.  What catches my eye is that it has level two in Elementalist, Evocation and Illusion.  A tank that can summon elementals for more shields, nice.  Illusion is a damn good bonus.  

I increase Rymon Kraigor toughness to four, increase might to level two, resilient to level two and will power to level four.  This will give him some serious staying power and can even cause critical damaging attacks.  With telepathy I command the him to make his own avatar, as a follower their avatars are granted for free.

The next strongest soul is a creature called a Mangler, is a large class creature raised as damage dealers.  It's also a glass cannon as it has four strength but three toughness.  But five in melee skill? Nice if he hits he can cause some serious damage.  This soul have level two in Conjuration, Elementalist and Evocation magical fields of study.  More elemental shields I guess is a good thing.  

Conjuration peaks my interest here, the Mangler can create physical objects with magic and can even make animated puppets.  I remembering a puppet team competing in yesterday's tournament, they actually did quite well winning three battles and made it to the semi finals.  I have to rank up to champion and purchase level three for magic talent before I can join with my own creations.

I revive the Mangler Bully? That what they call their devotee, Bully? Seriously!  Then I look at it's body, I see prehistoric lizardman with smooth human pale green skin.  Scanning their race history they still use heavy thigh bones as clubs.  I immediately spend two upgrade points to improve both mental and will power to level three. With some thought I buy level two levels of magic talent to give his elementals a little extra power.  I promptly order Bully to form an avatar. 

I grab clubfoot's soul and burn it's essence to create my new avatar from a sliver of my own soul.  I watch energy of the refining stream into my sliver which act like a balloon that eventually take the size and shape that I am used too.  I watch myself equip my spare gear and examines his new follower oversize humanoid pet with interest.  Then he says his daily prayers before leaving, I can hear my fading voice interrogating our first follower, which is a good idea and follow suit.

"What's this racial advantage Heat Stroke" my master asks.

"Master! This skill allows me to choose one target in my line of sight to suffer one level of aggravated damage as I ignite a pillar of soulfire directly inside the target's soul.  This wound can not be healed until the pillar is dispelled permanently.  If an avatar is killed in battle it will transfer this soulfire pillar to the true soul" I replied to crisp enthusiasm, making sure each word is clear.

Nice, kill their avatar and give them a present too.  I order Rymon to use this skill on any heavily wounded opponents in the future and higher ranking souls take priority. Which he quickly salute with right fist thumping his chest.

I look at up my pet Bully and ask "What's Feeding Frenzy?" I figure keeping it short will make it understand me better."

"Master! Feeding Frenzy allows me to ignore all health penalties and makes me immune to fear for several exchanges.  Regurgitate allows me to throw acid to cover up to three melee opponents."  I laugh at that one and wave the two to follow me as I remember increasing it's mental capacity so it as stupid as I thought.  My bad.
As I leave my personal shrine I make my way to training hall supply room.  I let my follower and pet equip themselves with basic gear of their choice while I stock up on everything again.  They are wearing basic enchanted heavy armor that avatars can wear underworld when I see them again. Since souls cant touch physical matter unless it's enchanted.

Sent to the afterlife and seeking a path towards reincarnation.

Plot: Loki tries to practice Jotun magic. He and Mantis get distracted online.
Tone: Slice of life
"Loki, why are you putting water in a bowl?"
Loki glanced over his shoulder to see Rocket, looking at him judgmentally. "We didn't have any ice," Loki replied with a shrug.
"What the hell do you need ice for?!" Rocket asked, throwing his arms out.
"It is confidential magic business," Mantis answered, resting her hands on Loki's shoulders. His cheeks reddened.
Rocket's eyes widened before he smirked. "Oh hoh, I see." He turned away with a chuckle. "Well, try not to be too loud in there, you weirdos."
Loki tilted his head to the side. He glanced at Mantis. The two of them shrugged and made their way toward one of the rooms closed off from everything else. Loki pulled the door shut. His laptop was on the pseudo desk, all charged up and ready to go.
"Alright…" Loki pulled the screen open, swiftly typing in his information to log in.
"What was that?" Mantis asked, tilting her head to the side.
"Just some login stuff," Loki replied, sitting down at the desk. "You don't need to worry about it now. For now…" He opened Google. "Let's see what we can find…" He paused. What should I type?
"What is this?" Mantis asked, pointing at the screen.
"That's the search bar," Loki answered. "When you press it, the letters you type here will appear there." Mantis pressed her finger against the screen where the search bar was. Loki let out a chuckle.
"No, no, not like that." He took her hand, guiding it toward the keypad. "Here. Use this to move that little icon around. That's your mouse." Mantis moved the mouse around in random directions. "Now guide that to the search bar and click down on it." She nodded, clicking the search bar.
"There you go." Loki gestured to the keyboard. "Now, type something in. That will search the Internet for whatever you type." Mantis tilted her head to the side. "You'll see. Just type something." She stared down at the keyboard, looking down at each key as she pressed it in a slow rhythm.
"Okay, now press enter." Mantis obeyed. She had typed the phrase 'ice powers,' showing the top search result with one picture. Loki read through it.
"This doesn't look very useful." Loki moved Mantis's fingers to the side, typing in something else. "Here, I've got this for now."
"Was it this tricky for you to learn how to use the Internet?" Mantis asked, tilting her head to the side.
Loki's eyes widened. He looked away, suddenly smiling. "It was… quite an adventure." He looked back at the screen, scrolling through several different search results, including videos. However, nothing seemed useful.
"What is that?" Mantis asked, pointing at a thumbnail with Elsa on it.
Loki snorted with laughter. "It's something from Frozen. Tony showed me that movie not long after I told him I was a Jotun actually." He smiled. "Elsa's powers work a little differently than mine. She can create snow from nothing, I haven't even successfully frozen water without the casket."
"Yet," Mantis added, pressing her finger against Loki's nose. He flinched back, unable to hide his smile. Loki looked through several videos, pretty much all of which were fake stunts by kids, before going back to Google.
"We need to alter our search," Loki muttered, backspacing to leave only the word ice. "Ice… ice…"
"Bending?" Mantis suggested with a shrug.
"Sure." Loki typed 'bending' and pressed enter. The first thing to come up was something called 'Waterbending.'
"What in the world is Waterbending?" Mantis asked, glancing at Loki.
"No idea." Loki replied, clicking the link. An article entitled 'Waterbending' appeared, with the words 'Avatar Wiki' plastered just above it. He read out the top. "Waterbending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the hydrokinetic ability to control water in all its various forms."
Loki glanced at Mantis. "Alright, this seems promising." He backed out of the article, typing out the words 'Avatar animated' into the search bar.
"Avatar: The Last Airbender," Mantis read, gazing at the pictures near the top of the screen. "This looks interesting."
"I doubt some silly earth cartoon will help me learn to control my powers but I suppose it's the best we've got," Loki replied with a shrug. He reached toward the keyboard, typing in the words 'watch online.' 
"This will be fun!" Mantis replied, clapping. Loki smiled at her. He put on the first episode and the two fell silent.
They were instantly fascinated by the show as the narrator began to explain the four elements and how the Fire Nation attacked. Loki leaned closer, his eyes gleaming with interest. He had watched animated movies and shows before (mostly Disney) so he knew how they worked but this was nothing like any of those. Maybe it was the wonderful animation. Perhaps it was how they explained their elemental abilities, not as magic but as something else…
"What did we just watch?" Loki asked, once the episode ended.
"I don't know but I liked it!" Mantis replied, clicking the button to go to the next episode.
"I did too," Loki admitted. This wasn't really what I had in mind but it was fun to watch. Loki gazed at the bowl of water. Pushing the laptop back, Loki pointed his hands at the water, that same cool feeling from the lake surging through him. The water rose out of the bowl, a few drops slipping free occasionally. Loki turned to Mantis, smiling. Tilting his fingers forward, he directed the water toward her. Mantis chuckled. Loki twirled his fingers around, making the water drift in circles around Mantis's head.
"You've gotten good at that," Mantis replied, smiling.
"I suppose," Loki replied, directing the water back into the bowl. "But it's not Jotun magic, I'm just using telekinesis to lift the water…" Loki gazed at his hands. "And maybe something else."
"Something else?" Mantis tilted her head to the side.
"When I lift the water like that, I feel almost connected to it. I'm not sure how to explain it, it just feels… different than when I lift an object." Loki sighed, pulling the laptop back in front of them. "Let's just continue, shall we?" Mantis nodded. They started the episode. It didn't take long before Loki and Mantis were completely sucked into the show, almost as if they were in a trance.
The main three characters were fighting off some Fire Nation soldiers, trying to escape their ship on Appa. Aang and Sokka were already climbing on the flying bison. Katara, however, stayed behind. Several Fire Nation warriors charged at her, pointing their spears at her. Katara lifted some water up to her side, flinging it backward into Sokka. His feet were frozen to the ground.
"Woah!" Loki's eyes widened.
"Oh my gosh!" Mantis gasped, gesturing wildly to the screen. "The water she-she!"
Katara lifted more water, turning around and flinging the water forward toward the Fire Nation Soldiers. She opened her eyes and the camera panned backward. The soldier was encased in ice.
Loki's eyes widened. He stood up, turning to the bowl of water. "I have to try that." Loki flicked his hand upward, lifting the water out of its bowl from afar. "Replay the clip." Mantis nodded, rewinding the episode.
"Just don't freeze me," Mantis replied, turning the laptop toward Loki and stepping back to stand behind the desk.
Loki nodded to her. He turned his gaze back, forming a line of water almost like a whip. Turning around, Loki flung the water forward. The water zipped through the air, forming a spear shape before freezing mid-air. The cool feeling disappeared. Loki's eyes widened, extending his hands and holding up the ice before it fell to the ground.
"You did it!" Mantis exclaimed, reaching toward the ice.
"Yes, but I'm no longer connected to it." Loki took the icicle in his hand, running his finger across it.
"Maybe you can only control its movements when it's in a liquid form," Mantis suggested, standing at Loki's side.
"That seems very impractical." Loki let out a sigh. "But I suppose I can learn to work with it." He handed the icicle to Mantis. "Hold this. I'm going to try something." Mantis nodded, taking a step back and holding the icicle in front of her. Loki directed his energy at the ice. It shook back and forth as cracks formed before shattering completely. The cool feeling returned. Loki lifted the water into the air before it could splash on the ground.
"Nice!" Mantis cheered, smiling and clapping.
Loki smiled back, directing the water back into the bowl. He and Mantis sat back down. They watched the rest of the episode and one more before going their separate ways for the night.

Loki and Mantis made their way down the ship. The other Guardians were sitting at the table, various breakfast and non-breakfast foods in front of them.
"G' morning weirdos," Rocket greeted with a wave. "Did ya enjoy your night?" He winked at them.
"It was fine, why?" Loki asked, his head tilting to the side.
"Well, I know you two were together last night." Rocket gestured to him and Mantis, winking rapidly. The others gazed at them, exchanging glances and murmuring.
"Yes…" Loki raised an eyebrow. "We were doing some research on my new laptop."
"We ended up watching this cool show about people that control the elements!" Mantis replied, stepping forward and smiling enthusiastically.
"Wait for real?" Rocket asked, tilting his head to the side. Loki and Mantis nodded. Rocket turned to the others with a sigh. "False alarm guys!" The others shrugged and returned to their meals.
"What?" Loki asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Eh, don't worry about it," Quill replied, glaring at Rocket. "He's just being an asshole like usual."
"But what was the bowl of water for?!" Rocket exclaimed, sitting back down at the table. "Who the hell puts water in a bowl?!"
"I was practicing using my Jotun powers without the casket," Loki explained, sitting next to Quill. "I thought freezing water first made the most sense."
"And it worked!" Mantis added, sitting next to Loki. "It was impressive! And that show we watched was great!"
"Well, we can watch it again sometime," Loki suggested, looking away and smiling. "I admit, it was fun."
"Fun watching the show or spending time with Mantis?" Quill asked, nudging Loki and giving him a strange look.
"Both, I suppose," Loki replied, scooting his chair away from Quill. The other guardians exchanged glances, suddenly giggling like children. "What's everyone laughing about?"
"Oh, nothing," Quill replied with a nonchalant flick of this hand. Loki raised an eyebrow though he didn't protest further. He turned away and conjured up a plate of food.

Of course, System refused to give Flora a couch and blanket.
She looked around for things to use for comfort but found only bones and her jumping avatars. 
'I could snuggle with my avatars, but the ground is still too hard. Maybe I can use their clothing?'
The stubborn System refused to create T-shirts on the ground, but he didn't vanish them when the avatars undressed. By carrying out a striptease marathon Flora and the avatars created a pile of cloth. 
Flora judged it sufficiently cozy but felt she missed a chance if she wouldn't utilize the avatars. 'When do you get the opportunity to command your own clone army?'
So she fashioned a hammock out of the T-shirts and ordered her avatars to swing it gently. Also, she gave one avatar a shirt with a print with palm fronds to fan her. 
Satisfied, she lay down to rest.

The ringing of a phone woke her up. 
"I'm coming! I'm coming! Where is my phone?" Flora fumbled for her mobile until she realized she was in the virtual world. She was proud she noticed it so quickly and even managed not to fall off the hammock.
"System, accept the call."
"I'm in the game. Where are you, Ma?" 
"I'm creating my avatar, love. It'll take a few more hours, maybe days?"
"You are in there for five hours! Wait, with time dilation, 10 hours! WTF are you doing?"
"I changed the bones and took a nap."
"That makes a lot of sense. NOT!" Robby sighted.
"Sarcasm in this shape is not sarcasm, but a concession that you know the truth rationally but choose to deny it due to emotional reasons." Flora had explained this to him many times. Maybe that was the reason he still used it. "Sweety, I will call you when I'm ready. Meanwhile, work on harmonizing your rationality and your emotions. Love you!"
"Yes, Ma. I understand that you are scared. The virtual world is nice, though. Take your time. Bye."
Flora chuckled. 'That little rascal thinks I need so long because I'm scared.' She took a moment to go over her motives and feelings concerning the virtual world. Her smile widened as she watched her avatars, fanning her, doing jumping jacks, and swinging the hammock. 
 'The real world is arguably a world based on mathematics. This world is unarguably one. Even the parts I don't understand yet, like this attribute stuff, are quantified. I'm an engineer: I harness mathematics to prevail. I got this!'

Motivated, she checked the avatars for injuries. They were still fine.
"System, show me the best ligaments, please include the bones they are attached." She scanned the model perfunctory.
"System, color every ligament purple. Replace it with its natural color after I modified the corresponding ligament on my avatar." The main challenge was not to get confused by 900 small strings and miss some out.
After she prepared her avatar and got the rating for her current ligaments (E), she requested System to aggregate a second model with the best options for the foot. 
Referencing the template, she modified the ligaments of her avatar's foot. Basically, she applied the same strategy as with the skeleton. She reinforced them, exchanged material, and fortified the connection with the bones. 
Flora slowly worked her way up the body and fell in a smooth rhythm of modifying, creating save files, testing, and checking the new jumping avatars. 
In no time, she reached the knee. She had trepidations about it because she had blown her ACL in the past and had learned the knee was the most complicated joint in the body. But the work on it went suspiciously easy, and there was less to change than she expected. Her avatar had a lot more ligament-like stuff than the model. The System explained to Flora only the major ligaments were relevant to the game and therefore rated by it. That cleared her confusion, and she resumed work. After finishing, System gave the ligaments a satisfying SS rating.
The next step consisted of muscles and tendons. Again, there was a discrepancy between the number of muscles and tendons on the model and the avatar. Also, the model was less bulky than Flora expected. When Flora inspected the muscles around the hipbone, she was relatively sure they were part of the female anatomy.
"System, do you rate the vaginal muscles?" Flora asked, perplexed.
"Yes."
"They are relevant to the game?"
"Yes."
"So, how do you rate my... nevermind, I don't want to know." 
Flora got the current rating for all the muscles and tendons of her avatar. Unsurprisingly, it was again an E. 
Then she experimented with the model. She requested from System the muscles with the best strength rating. Thick fibers bulked up the body. Next, she asked for the best endurance rating, and the projection changed to leaner muscles. She settled on a model with the best pound for pound power rating. 
This time, she didn't just specify 'the best' but optimized her requests for each body part. 
Robby has practiced martial arts since he was a preteen. So Flora attended a lot of competitions and martial arts gatherings. She had noticed paragon fighters developed strong wrists and hands. Flora needed superior fine motor skills for designing and optimized her hands for it. But she went full pound for pound strength on the wrist, arms, and legs. Her goal was not to look like she abused steroids, so she went with endurance on the neck and shoulders. 
After pondering too long about her looks, she realized she was too old for vanity, and she should go with the best. In the real world, you can argue about what is best, but System ruled this world. Therefore System was the supreme judge.
The resulting avatar V0.48 looked uncanny. Due to the thin papery skin, the muscles looked like hawsers under a bedsheet. But it felt great in the test. Flora couldn't remember when she ever had been in that much control of her movements. 
Jumping Jacks, check! 
Sit-ups, check! 
Push-ups, check! 
Push-ups on the fingertips, check!
She summarized the testing experience with two words: 'Smooth and powerful.'
In her youth, Flora enjoyed going for hikes in the mountains. There she admired the climbers who could hang on a crevice with one hand and leisurely eat a cheese toast with the other one. Maybe the virtual reality had some lovely mountains, and she could pick up climbing? 
 Flora would like to test pull-ups as well but lacked a bar. Suddenly she got an idea. 
"System, please aggregate the best fitness equipment for pull-ups."
Two poles with a bar appeared. 
'I'm so stupid.'
"System, please generate the best couch, the fluffiest blanket, and most awesome titanium ingot."
The workspace filled up with the requested goods.
She grabbed the titanium and replaced the shin bone of her avatar with the metal. "And?"
"Worse."
"Alright, maybe too much weight?" Now, she added only a layer of titanium. "And?"
"Worse."
"System, please aggregate the best material to coat my bones."
A silver-blue ingot appeared.
"So, what do we have here?" Flora inspected the metal, knocked on it, smelled it, and even licked it. 
The System only said it was mithril and forced Flora to google additional information. Mithril was magical metal. It interfered less than other metals with magic and was even capable of being enchanted and storing magic. The interference of mithril was one operative value (OV) per 50 grams. That was pretty good compared to the other metals listed. Titanium was the worst with 10 OV per 10 grams, iron 5 OV, copper 4 OV per 10 grams. The precious metals fared better 5 OV for silver, 2 OV for platinum, and only 1 OV per 25 grams for gold.
The website furthered Flora's comprehension. It even provided links to Operative Value(OV) and Level Value(LV).
Level Value: Number, which can be raised through training and leveling up.
Operative Value: Number, which is calculated via a logarithmic function from the level value and modifiers. In almost all game mechanics, the OV is used.
Flora knew of logarithmic functions. They were the spoilsports of mathematics and produced diminishing returns. For example, if you learned an additional hour, you could raise your grade by one, from a D to C. If you want to increase the grade from C to B, you have to invest two additional hours, and from B to A, maybe even 5 hours. For the same increment in benefits, you had to toil more. 
On the website were even calculations on how the metal handicap influenced spells.
Magic missiles: 
Basic damage: 10 DMG
Skill level value 100 LV -> skill operative value 30 OV 
Magical Power attribute level value 100 LV -> attribute operative value 30 OV 
Metal handicap: 5 OV
DMG = basic DMG + skill OV + attribute OV - handicap OV
 65 = 10 + 30 + 30 - 5
The spell magic missiles may hit for up to 65 damage.
(Without milestone bonus, placement, morphs, affinity, control, and weapon damage)
'Alright, I summarize: OV robs the players' hard work, and metal handicap hurts magic. So should I use mithril at all?'
Flora decided yes. Why? Because it was free of charge. 
'I find a way to scrub it off my bones if it sucks. Let's go less than 1 OV, 20 grams.' She went to work.
This time, System approved of her using the metal as a protective layer coating for her parts of her head, collarbones, shoulder blades, sternum, elbows, knees, shins, forearms, and knuckles.
She noticed no change in the test but hoped people who were stupid enough to hit her would feel the difference.

When she finished, a big blue box with white text obstructed her vision: "Notification: Exploit detected. Please wait for the arrival of the Administrator."
The box vanished and was replaced by a guy with sunglasses, a shirt with "ADMIN" printed on the front, and a suit with animated Matrix-like blue data streams.
"Hello, Flora Fluss. I'm the Administrator."

After Flora Fluss burns down the kitchen, her son insists she is too old to live alone. She's got two choices. Either move into a retirement home or spend the rest of her life within a virtual reality game governed by society's most advanced artificial intelligence. When you've worked a lifetime as an engineer for home appliances, naturally, you go with the option that has more toasters. 
Soon, Flora finds out that the virtual world is more familiar than she thought. Though, it takes her a while to get used to the idea that tanks don't hold water or oil but the aggro of mobs.
