It's everyone's favourite, economics.


It is entertaining how the concept of success intertwines and meshes so well with neo-liberal economics and policies (oh dear, the closeted anarchist is complaining about austerity, shocker).


I mean, after all, this is a meritocracy, is it not?


I mean, after all, haven't we suffered through poverty?  Haven't we pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps to become what we are today?  So what is this nonsense about them, the poor, wanting- well, what is it now?  Some other nonsense.  Really, they ought to learn how to live within their means.  And doubtless this applies our nation as well (thanks Hayek, motherfucker).  Why, in order for this country to be successful, like us, it must spend within its means.


And so what do you get?


Austerity measures.  Against, funnily enough, both states and citizens.  Measures which say that countries must put the needs of their citizens aside in favour of paying of debts.  Measures which put numbers on a graph above very real human suffering.


I say against.  Let us never delude ourselves into thinking that these measures were ever "for" us.  They may not have been implemented with malicious intent, but at the very least they are patronising as fuck.  


And what is the result of this frantic slashing (apart from the military, because god knows the world runs on zero sum games)?  


Well, the poor are (to put it politely) fucked.  You have an economic slowdown amongst the working class, and increasingly, the middle class.  You have unemployment and layoffs as bosses earn more.  You have the working class unable to access basic necessities.  You have despair and unease.


So, what does this lead to?


Well.  Let's address that with a segue.


What causes extremism?  And let us not answer this with the thought terminating cliche of "some ideas are inherently violent, man".  Because honestly, what idea hasn't been used to justify shitty actions?
Excuse my facetiousness.  
But as Francesca Borri noted in her book Syrian Dust, a decent chunk of extremists are dispossessed youth (Noam Chomsky also pointed this out, but I haven't been bothered to read any of his work yet).  A decent chunk of them live in backwaters, forgotten by society, with nothing to gain and nothing to lose.  In an atmosphere of hopelessness and despair, what else do you expect?
And it's not limited to religious extremism.  We have seen the rise of reactionary politics over the last 20 years.  We have seen the resurgence in anti-globalisation, and protectionist policies (not that they ever went away, neo-liberalism is literally just protectionism with a free trade Halloween costume).  So much for the Death of History, eh?
But ultimately, at some point, something's gotta give.  We can't continue in a state where policies cause the poor to become poorer.  We can't continue in a state where these constant wars, where climate change, where these policies impact the poor such that we're not merely rubbing salt into their wounds.  No, what's going on is more akin to dousing the poor in water, and then dumping pure sodium onto them.


So where do we go on from here?


To be perfectly honest, I have no fucking clue.


There is no easy solution.  
We require greater democratisation.  
We require a voice in the work we partake in, in the markets we've been forced into, in the politicians we vote for.
Let no person be left behind.  The story of humanity is not one of great figures.  The story of humanity is not one of triumphant conquerors, victorious kings, untold glories.  It is this wondrous tale of interconnected individuals, working towards their own goals and desires.  It is a tale of cooperation, marked by heinous blotches of division.  Because after all, what is Alexander without his army?

Ethan doesn't react to the thrown attacks against his father, his heart knowing full well that what Fjord was saying is true. "I agree, and I of all people know that going against my father is a death wish." His eyes lower to the floor, ashamed for what his father has become. "We need to save Kein, it's the only way we get his plans to fail."
"Kein?" Elizabeh asks, the name not ringing a bell. "Who is this Kein and why are they after him?"
"Principal Loft's bodyguard, the guy in the black suit. I have no idea why they're after him as well, but I am certain that they need him." Ethan replies, anxiousness now evident in his voice as their time runs out. "I need you to trust me on this Fjord."
Elizabeth looks at him, trying to determine whether or not he could really be trusted. There was sadness in his eyes, the presence of guilt and regret. "Alright."
Carson makes his way through the back of the main hall, following the directions given to him by Noah. Numerous familiar faces step in front of him, Younger students attempting to keep him from making progress. He senses the fear emanating from them, as if they were trying to make sense of what was going on. Carson doesn't move, hoping that they all back off before anybody gets hurt.
"Get him!" One shouts, throwing a spear made of sharpened water. The rest follow, projectiles launched at Carson from every direction. They were nothing compared to Olin, compared to Skye. He pulls out an enormous wall of crimson flame, taking the brunt of the attack as it swirls all over him. A living shield.
Fireballs approach Carson, ones he easily dodges as he launches back one of his own. It splits into three, each finding a target. The rest falter, giving him a chance to launch a heat wave that knocks all of them to the ground as he slams his arms downward. Silence follows, the unconscious students lying still below his feet. "Forgive me."
He runs past their bodies, making his way to the location of Kein. The once famed Main Hall of the Academy was now in shambles as the scuffle continues on. Dozens of students lie bloody on the ground, some of them no longer breathing. "Up ahead Carson." Noah speaks through his ear, the tether still connected to both of them. "Get to work."
"Thora!" Kein scurries to find Thora on the other side of debris, fending of several attackers at once. In swift motions, Thora impales them with her spears, elusive blades made out of wind that cut cleanly through them.
"I'm alright." She speaks, her voice soft as she sees the worried look on Kein's face. "We need to protect the kids, I'll meet you at the ballroom." Kein nods at her, scurrying away as she makes haste towards the children. Who could it be? Thora suspected Skye, along with the other houses that seemed restless with her being on top. With Kein around?

The intelligence of a Roc outstrips humans by quite a bit, however their intelligence is gradual so they grow into it. A Roc at birth is relatively small as compared to how big it will be at adulthood, however they grow very quickly and are able to reach adulthood only after 500 years of their almost 1 million year old lives. A Roc has its feathers immediately after birth so they are able to fly as soon as they are born. A Rocs feathers are as hard as diamond at birth and grow stronger the longer they are alive. Rocs generally cap at about the size of a mountain upon adulthood, however there have been exceptions. The talons of a Roc can slice through most materials and only grow sharper the more they are used. This species is virtually extinct as the birth rate for a Roc is generally one every few thousand years.

This deer is very rare in certain environments due to not all fawns being Mana oriented, and instead being regular deer after birth.

-Broad Bear: A Broad Bear is a creature that has forgone any sort of magic for a pure physically oriented body that has a massive amount of strength, defense, and speed as well as a large size. Standing at 7 feet tall on all fours and double that on two legs, this bear is usually a brownish color though it can vary depending on the area it lives in. This bear weighs double or triple of any animal of its size should giving it more strength, since this bear relies on its large stature and weight in order to put more strength into attack, this fat also gives a huge defense boost to most parts of its body making it a terrifying opponent in a match of close combat. When provoked into running a Broad Bear can run up to as fast as 50 mph and jump as high as 20 feet.

-Golden Carp: This fish is rare, it was originally still rare but it's even rarer now due to over hunting of this species due to every part of its body being useful, from its scales being able to made into jewelry or part of a weapon enhancing it, or its meat and organs able to cure certain diseases or able to strengthen people of any age permanently, or its bones that look like they're made of crystal and that are as strong as diamond. This fish is a light golden color that glitters even in the darkest of environments, but its able to mask itself as a different fish with camouflage by rolling in mud or sand and making it stick to its scales with a special substance it can secret, this substance, when wanted, can also become slippery making everything bounce off it making it very hard to catch on water or even on land.

They can come in any shape or form made of any material as long as there is sufficient mana. The reason these creatures are called Guardians is because they 'guard' their creators hopes and dreams and follow through with them for their creator.

-Lightning Bug: The simplistic name does not show the ferocity of these little bugs. These eusocial insects live with the most brutal and violent storms in order to find food and places to stay. These critters are a very light golden with a body of hard carapace, making their ability to move very hard, however they make up for this with rapid speeds, amazing maneuverability in the air and solid defense. The King and Queen live in the most violent of the storm clouds and the workers move about around finding food and materials in whatever way possible. They have the ability to control lightning and direct it in any direction from within their body, they use this power to control lightning strikes to either strike enemies or to reach potential food or building material very fast. These bugs mostly thrive on a mix between charred trees and charred animals not having a personal preference of one over the other.

-Queen Lightning Bug: The ruler over a colony of Lightning Bugs, this Queen is chosen over a duel of upwards of thousands of royal contestants for the throne. When the Queen is ready to mate she chooses her spouse that will be with her for as long as they both live. The Queen Lightning Bug honey created for her young is said to be a very precious material used in a multitude of beverages and foods. The Queen Lightning Bug is able to use lightning attacks that bring about storms for her colony, she may also use her other powers in order to fight or to defend her colony. When a Queen loses her spouse, she is able to increase the intensity of the storm in which she creates by many levels. It is said that in this mode a Queen has another name, 'Monarch of Storms'.

When she first came to power she had a mighty yet kind rule over her subjects, but when tragedy struck her life she shut herself in the castle, never to be heard from again woefully spending her days alone and in isolation from anyone else. With the loss of their queen the race slowly faded from rule and has become just another arachnid species. This species has a very weak venom that can only affect prey smaller than it, it however makes up for this with very sturdy and strong webbing that stretches for upwards of tens of feet. This spider makes up for its weak body with a natural camouflage to its surroundings, making it very difficult to see it at all.

-Swipe Goblin: Born out of greed for material wealth and treasures, this species will stop at nothing in order to get treasures. Swipe Goblins have innate senses that allow them see the 'aura' of treasures, the better the treasure the bigger the aura of it. With strong robust legs Swipe Goblins are excellent climbers allowing them to not only leap and climb great distances, but their legs also allow them to remain virtually silent on almost any terrain. Lethal poison is a Swipe Goblins main attack, their brown long claws allow them to kill most of the opponents they will face. When Swipe Goblins gain a treasure they eat what is called 'Treasure Energy' out of it, which is their main food source, allowing them to become stronger after each successful gaining of wealth. Although they are called Swipe Goblins, these creatures have no correlation with the Goblin species except for in appearance only.

-Crustacean Champion: Born in large transparent eggs, these creatures are born in the thousands, however only one shall live to become the protector of its area. Standing at an average of 62 feet tall, these creatures have a multicolored carapace of almost impenetrable defense, as well as eyes that can see with a whooping 12 photoreceptors in its midband, allowing them to see in spectrums far beyond most races. This creatures special ability is manipulating pressure within its own body, allowing for it to increase its destructive power by a thousand fold, as well as being able to walk on dry land with ease. With a slow reaction time these creatures generally do not bother with most other creatures unless under direct threat, however this does not mean they are stupid or an easy target. They are generally regarded as very gentle beings with fierce territory manners, going out of there way to protect both the land and their territory from massive threats. They love walking on the bottom of the ocean floor for miles on end.

-Jack Apple: A Jack Apple is a fruit born from a Jack in the Box Tree, with an almost comical name by most standards, almost no one has heard of this tree, but this tree causes fear for anybody that knows of its existence. The Jack in the Box Tree is a tree of varying colors with only its bark always remaining a light gold that reflects an almost imperceptible amount of light. The Jack Apple is what causes the fear of this tree though, this fruit is unknown, it should be said that you will never know what this fruit does once in range of it. It could be a simple fruit with no side effects, or it could unload an explosion killing all life within a 500 mile radius, or it could turn into a black hole swallowing the very realm you're in. This fruit is also called the surprise fruit, because it will almost never repeat any action again.

-Twilight Rose: A plant indigenous to very rare biomes though they have no special effects. They are also called 'Twilight's Eve' to show their beauty. This rose comes in a flashy showing of multiple shades of purple or blue based on lighting

-Metallic Bomb Fruit: These fruits were born evolutionarily with the process of animals eating their fruit then, with enough pressure, they would explode out of the animal with a metallic buckshot of seeds of the fruit to which they could be planted. As the seeds travel far distances and can shoot through most obstacles they can be found in most places. The lumps on the skin are the seeds of the fruit that will explode out when enough pressure is applied to them. This variation of the plant has evolved a special way of gaining its nutrients as there is no sun in order to go through photosynthesis. This plant is a parasite, sucking nutrients out of other nearby plants, thus repeating the process.

This liquid can allow a person to gain an affinity to the element of that specific liquid, it only takes 1 drop to become an adept user of the said element, however it is unknown if there is a limit to how much you can drink.

Hello I am a first time author writing this because I was sick of reading books that I never enjoyed and it has always been my wish to do something like this, to act upon my imagination and create something I enjoy. I may not be good at this and there could be a lot of grammar problems, but please bare with me as I stride along the path of an author!

Six orbs floated around in a circle. The spun rapidly as a wonderful played. 

If Travis saw this he would be shocked! Akiol had obtained an incredibly rare effect upon opening a chest. This was called Divine Opening, if triggered then it would provide the person with an item that would be useful even far later. This item usually would be based upon the player's class and current equipment! Items from Divine Openings were incredibly popular for the players that were lucky enough to witness one.

How had Akiol managed to trigger such an effect? It was because of Quolith's blessing! The death by Rygeth could be considered heavy misfortune. In order to even the scale a incredible amount of luck would be needed.

With the Divine Opening the scale has evened out! 

The orbs moved. One hovered in front of every party member. 

Akiol held his hand under it, the light faded and an item dropped into his hand. It was a silver pocket watch, on the back a red ruby lay in its casing. It was connected to a thin silver chain. Akiol fiddled with the watch, but he couldn't get it open.

In Jarvis' hand, an orb of several colors lay unmoving. Jarvis inspected it and grew excited. This was a monster pet egg!

About seven monster pets have been reported to be found. Similar to an Artifact, a player was bound to a singular monster pet. These pets would grow alongside the player, taking a portion of the experience gained. However they would provide a lot of help once they reach a certain growth stage.

Jarvis quickly bound to the egg, he was excited to see what would hatch. Even if it was a useless pet, he wouldn't care. Being able to grow alongside a pet was a huge opportunity.

Kan'na found a twenty sided die in hers. Upon inspecting it her interest grew.

All the outcomes were empty, but Kan'na had a feeling that her class would be perfect for this. If she could assign magic circles to the die, then it would be a free extra circle cast mid-battle.

Wrock had a strange fruit in his hands. He didn't even inspect the description of it before crunching on it. It was like his body needed it, for his being had moved subconsciously.

He then was hit with a barrage of notifications.

Wrock read through the titles description was immediately pleased. Not only has his stats increased, but he gained a permanent damage buff!

He eyed a part at the bottom that remained question marks, but pushed it aside for later. He was intrigued in what the other party members got.

Yielya held two staffs in her hands. One she had been using, the other she gained from the orb. She inspected the staff and immediately grew happy.

Yielya immediately switched out the staffs, this one was far better. Still... what was the Seventh Heaven?

Tilia had a crimson cloak, the color was a single shade lighter than her armor. He inspected it before equipping it. It was an incredible piece of equipment after all.

Six children of horrid fate all had dreams. During their last breath they all wished for their dream to come true. With such strong dreams they manifested into this cloak.

As Tilia equipped the cloak, she felt a little sad about the extra skills. It sounded awful to her, what had happened?

Akiol spun the watch by the chain as he watched his party examine the items. As they slowly equipped and stored the items he asked, "What did you all get?"

The party slowly explained their stuff. Akiol was pleased that they all seemed to be happy with the items. It would be disappointing if it wasn't worth anything.

Tilia asked, "What about you?"

Akiol stopped spinning the watch, "This."

Tilia remembered that Akiol didn't have a game interface. She then offered, "Want me to tell you what it does?"

"Not right now, there's something I want to test first. If it doesn't work out then I will be needing your help."

"Alright."

Wrock massaged his neck, "So what are we doing now?"

Akiol pondered the question as he looked over the destruction from the fight, "I suppose we explore this world. There's mounts and stuff right? Let's see what this world has to show us. No more grinding, no more training."

Yielya stretched, "Mm! I like the idea, sounds a lot more fun than dungeon diving."

"So it's settled?"

The party nodded, they were growing bored of the same thing everyday. It was time for a change.

Akiol snapped a finger, "Then we need some mounts! Unless... you all want to walk?"

A Crimson Immortal sat in a luxurious space. A complex expression remained on their face as they pondered.

A violent energy burst from them, blowing away objects of various types. They stood up, "That fool Rygeth! You actually used the power from that man?! It took us far too long to keep him sealed. I must confiscate any blood they have given away, if more of it is used... we will be in grave danger!"

A man stood looking through a window when a message appeared through the system. A grin spread across his face as he marched out the room.

"Akiol... your little party has been found. I hope you realize the fate you caused them!"

The figure stopped as another message appeared. They smacked their lips as they quickly sent out a series of messages.

Someone opened the door, "Vice-Leader, is it time?"

"Begin the preparations, Guild Leader will be finished with his quest soon. We shall finish this as quickly as possible. I want preparations done in two weeks. Understood?"

"Consider it done Vice-Leader!"

Akiol was currently walked through a mall. He was accompanying Yielya on a small shopping trip. The party decided to go out for something, and Tilia recommended the mall. He mainly tagged along for a meal, for he was hungry.

As Yielya was walking through the mall buying miscellaneous items Akiol spotted a familiar face, "Yielya, tell the rest to meet me in the food court in about an hour."

Yielya continued to look at some items as she nodded, "Alright."

Akiol moved through the crowd of people. The whole mall was filled with noise, it had been bothering him since he entered. It was a mixture of people talking along with walking, and items being moved. 

After passing by he walked up to the person he remembered, "Rebecca, I didn't expect to see you here!"

Rebecca was startled as she looked over to Akiol, "James? What are you doing all the way out here?"

"I moved over here."

"Moved? Oh! I think Mom said something about that. I didn't know it was out here!"

"I didn't expect to see you here either."

"Ah, I came here to meet friends. We are supposed to meet up in the food court in an hour."

Akiol's eye twitched, was it a coincidence? He then asked, "Friends? From where? I thought you were living close with friends."

"Ah..."

Rebecca looked a little embarrassed before completely removing any signs of her ever being so, "It was through the game A World's Legacy. We decided to meet up finally."

Akiol felt like this was no longer a coincidence. Was that God responsible for this?

"Oh hey, I play that too!"

"We should play together sometime, I'll carry you through some dungeons or something."

"Carry me? Are you sure it isn't the other way around?"

"Ha! Not with your skill, I am sure you will trip over your own two feet."

Akiol clicked his tongue, "Not yet, though I wouldn't mind playing sometime."

"I'll send a text to you whenever I am free."

"Don't forget."

Akiol bade farewell and walked away, he then realized he never told her about his party.

He shrugged, it didn't matter much anyway.

Six Heroes had completed their destiny, slaying the Demon King. The Gods and Goddesses, wanting balance to their world, decided to send the Heroes into another universe. 

They wouldn’t go unrewarded however. The Gods and Goddesses gave the Heroes one fate-twisting chance before sending them off into their new lives.

The Heroes found themselves in the future of earth. Separated and with no way to contact each other. They joined the newest game release, A World’s Legacy! The first game to succeed in a fully immersive VRMMORPG. 

The Heroes join the launch in hopes of coming into contact with each other.
