"…. We'll be reaching soon, How did you think you could be part of the military when you get tired after a short walk" Zero mentioned with a confused look. 

"I'm not tired! It's just, I don't walk often and I'm slightly out of breath" Odrunn hastily replied.
 
After another 10 minutes, the both of them arrived in front of a large hall with a large sign at the front "scientia sit potentia".

The two walked into the classroom and immediately found their seat towards the back. Looking around Zero noticed Basil Draco and his lackeys occupying the front row.

"Boss, the one who just came in is Fenris Finch, 3rd son of the Finch family. They have an inherited wolf bloodline, very few families would have beast type manifests, but the Finch family pride themselves on it." Odrunn spoke lightly withholding his sound, it was unknown whether he was afraid of the Finch family or whether he had learnt his lesson from the outburst yesterday. 

Zero nodded intently. 

[ Just what is the structure between the nobles, if they are already so against each other, why would they be so cohesive in hunting the resistance. I have to find out more, seems like fatty is in tune with this. ]

The Astregon military academy, if you add up the professors here is a major force of strength.

Basil scanned the room and locked eyes with Zero, he waved his hand as if swatting a fly, next he looked at fatty and mouthed the words "you're dead, punching bag"

"Okay, listen up, we will first be talking about the classification of your manifests, in general there are 4 overarching classifications of manifests. 

The <Transformation> type classification, which allows the manifester to change his body partially or fully.

Next, We have the <Creation> type classification. Manifesters with the <Creation> type manifest is able to Create things, based on their abilities. 

<Manipulator> type classification allows their user to manipulate things. For example, there are cases of manipulators controlling people, the elements, even lights to refract and hide. 

Last but not least, we have the <Augmenters> Augments are manifests that change a state of your body. For example, you could have augmented strength, speed, you can disguise yourself or even be resistant to certain things.

Manifests vary from person to person. Everyone may have the same category of manifests but the degree of usage for each person is different. Hence, in day 1 you have your abilities sorted and you know where your benchmark is in the future.  

Everyone will be able to train their manifests, of course, based on your potential we will advise you on which direction you will train in. However for Augment type manifests, you have to understand that you can only train in the path of augmenters as your abilities are limited." 

[ Well… She's not wrong. There are definitely truths to what she say, but she's missing out one very important classification, the <Null> manifestations. <Null> manifestations are abilities like mine, who has strong abilities, but is paired with a strong downside. ]

Just by looking at the first evolution Impiro had a good feeling, as the materials that were listed on the data sheet seemed to be relatively easy to find. He quickly pulled up the GTS and began searching for the items listed. Seeing the GTS for the first time gave Impiro a small shock. Mei Hoga had described the GTS as an auction house of sorts where bidding wars would take place. This worried Impiro as he was afraid that he wouldn't be able to keep up in bidding wars for even cheap items. Thankfully though he saw that the GTS was split into two different bodies: an auction and a store. He would not need to worry about bidding for items in the store section of the GTS as all items sold in the store were sold set prices.

Currently Impiro had 4,050 units to spend from selling monster cores. He subtracted 1,000 from that total because two months rent for his house would cost that much, leaving him with 3,050 units to spend on Kabu's food and evolution materials.

Kabu's food wasn't expensive as he could buy horseshoe cow meat from a local store at a cheap price, hence he didn't dwell on the subject long. After searching for all the materials needed for the linear evolution Impiro was pleased.

The most expensive item would be the monster core, the cheapest warrior grade monster core with the light element was being sold for 900 units. The giant-antlered deer meat was sold at 250 units per 5kg, Impiro remembered that these were novice grade monsters so their meat wasn't very valuable. Lastly, the light preserving berries sold at 10 units per berry, so 100 units total. This brought the cost of Kabu's linear evolution up to 1,250 units in all.

Impiro was ecstatic to say the least, the linear evolution seemed to be the most basic option for Kabu and it was well within Impiro's price range. However, after viewing the prices of the items needed for Kabu's other evolutions Impiro became saddened as they were all too expensive or too difficult.

To evolve Kabu into a Blood Horn Wolf Bear Impiro would need to soak Kabu's horns in the blood of a lvl 40 warrior grade monster and feed him blood purification fruit. This was a difficult task because it meant Impiro would have to buy the monster straight up or hire someone to accompany him and kill it. According to the evolution details the blood had to be fresh, hence purchasing it off the GTS wasn't an option. Also, the blood purification fruit was a rare item that sold for 10,000 units for just one fruit. This meant it wasn't even worth looking into.

The Blood Horn Wolf Bear wasn't the only evolution that was expensive as all 8 evolution options aside from linear were out of Impiro's budget. This left him with two options: he could either postpone Kabu's evolution until he had more money or pick linear evolution right away. He thought about this for several minutes before deciding to choose the latter option. In doing so he would have a stronger monster right away that wasn't stuck at a low level, meaning he could fight tougher opponents and earn more money faster. Plus, just because he chose linear evolution now didn't mean there would be consequences in the future as the system did not specify. This gave Impiro hope that he could choose better options the next time Kabu was ready to evolve.

After making his choice Impiro placed the order for the materials needed for Kabu's linear evolution. Once the order was placed there was a woman that came on screen and thanked Impiro for shopping on the GTS. She was a tall woman in a black and white dress. Her brown hair was cut below her ears and the dress hugged her figure, needless to say she was a pleasant sight. The woman assured Impiro that the items would arrive within 48 hours after being verified by the ranger association, she then disappeared from the screen.

Satisfied with the transaction, Impiro closed his holo-device and put it back in his pocket. Kabu now sprawled out across the floor on his back trying to get Impiro's attention. Impiro laughed then began scratching Kabu's belly, this was obviously what he wanted as his tail began flailing around with joy.

A day passed and it was now Thursday, June 3rd. Impiro was doing push ups in his room when the doorbell rang. He put on a shirt then went to answer the door.

"Delivery for Copper Ranger Impiro Fushima!"

When Impiro opened the door, he was greeted by a young man that couldn't have been older than 20. The man was accompanied by a small kangaroo-like monster with purple and white hair. It was slightly shorter than the man, being only 1.65 meters tall. The kangaroo was all purple but had white spots around its eyes and a white pouch. Just like earth kangaroos, this one had a muscular body with veins popping out everywhere.

A space type monster!

These monsters weren't necessarily rare, but they were hard to get ahold of for low ranking rangers like Impiro since there were elusive or expensive on the market. This was also the first time he had seen a space attribute monster in person.

Although the Purple Space Kangaroo was a great fighter, a lot of mail services used them as couriers to send packages and mail with. Not only could they protect the packages from lesser threats, but the size of their storage space was larger than other warrior grade monsters with similar abilities. This made them the ideal monster for the job.

"Hey there, are you Impiro Fushima?"

The mailman saw that Impiro was studying his monster companion and decided to get his attention.

"Oh my apologies I was looking at your Purple Space Kangaroo. It's a cool monster...but yes I am Impiro Fushima."

"Thanks for the compliment, Kanga here has been my only monster since I turned 18. He's my best friend at this point..."

The mailman realized he was getting off topic and gathered his thoughts again.

"Anyways, I'm here to drop off your package from the GTS. I'll just need you to sign here."

He handed a holo-device to Impiro. On it was a field for Impiro to sign with his finger. After signing he returned the holo-device to the mailman.

"Thanks for that, here's your package."

He gestured to the Purple Space Kangaroo who reached into its pouch and brought out a large package that was wrapped in black paper. The Kangaroo gave Impiro his package but held a stern face as if it wanted to fight him.

"Uh, thanks for bringing it over. Have a great day…"

Impiro was unsettled by the kangaroo's behavior so he spoke slowly. As the mailman left with the kangaroo it spat on Impiro's lawn before leaving completely.

Sigh…

With the package in hand Impiro went inside and opened it up in the dining room. Inside were all the materials necessary for Kabu's evolution. He laid them out across the table and inspected them.

"The GTS sure is reliable! It only took a day to arrive and the items are still fresh, maybe I'll order more next time."

Impiro was impressed with the efficiency of the GTS, it was far better than any government or business could do.

"Let's go ahead and get it done right away!"

Impiro then went into the kitchen to grab a pot for the berry juice and began mashing the berries. Meanwhile, Kabu had been with Impiro the whole time and could sense the energy from the items on the table as if he knew they were for him. He began drooling as Impiro prepared the food…

A half hour flew by, Impiro had finished mashing the berries and soaking the monster core in juice, he then stuffed it into a chunk of Giant-Antlered Deer meat and fed all of the meat to Kabu on a large dish in the backyard.

Kabu scarfed down the food in less than a minute which shocked Impiro.

"Such a big appetite...who knows if I'll be able to feed you later on when you require more nourishing."

Having finished his food Kabu walked around in a circle several times before curling up and falling asleep on the grass. Impiro assumed it would take some time to evolve so he left Kabu in the backyard.

Since Impiro was inside he could not see that Kabu's body was rapidly changing during his nap. Simply by looking at him one could easily see him changing by the minute.

His antlers grew to be a little less than a meter long, resembling large deer antlers. The fur on his body became thicker and his size grew to be roughly 1.25x larger, bringing him to almost 3.75 meters long and 1.87 meters tall. As his growth continued the white spots on his body turned into stripes that were almost tiger like, they looked beautiful in contrast to his light blue fur. The thick stripe of fur that grew down his spine also became a dark purplish-black color.

Aside from the obvious size and color changes, Kabu's teeth became much larger while the bottom two canines became massive and hung outside of his bite. Kabu's appearance was nothing short of beautiful yet intimidating at the same time.

Impiro decided to check up on Kabu about an hour and a half after Kabu had gone to sleep. When he got outside he was met with Kabu's dark brown eyes staring at him playfully, but the changes Kabu had gone through made Impiro's jaw drop.

"Look at you, you're massive now! I won't even be able to fit you in the house!"

Due to Kabu's new size there was no way he'd fit through the doors into the house, hence sleeping inside was no longer an option. This didn't bother Impiro for too long though as he was carefully reading Kabu's new stat sheet with wide eyes.

Swift Body Lvl 1 (passive, innate) - This monster is extremely light despite its size. Most of its size comes from the bountiful amount of fur on its body. Thanks to this it can move extremely fast and with high agility.

[Description]: This horned wolf bear has undergone a linear evolution to reach warrior grade, therefore it is just an enhanced version of the normal horned wolf bear with increased abilities. It's still able to evolve using the previous evolution options but with the properly adjusted levels. The horned wolf bear lives in small packs of 3-5 with one alpha male. Most of their behavior mimics wolf monsters, but they do hibernate like bears once a year for a month long period. Their fur is extremely special and allows them to reduce the amount of damage taken from physical attacks. Combined with their fast speed and decent combat skill, this monster is very formidable.

[Weaknesses]: Dark attribute, its fur is not resistant to elemental attacks

[Strengths]: High defense, great speed and agility, can use its sharp horns to attack, incredible bite force like a bear (enhanced due to enlarged mouth)

[Possible Evolutions]: Demon Horn Wolf Bear (from Blood Horn Wolf Bear), Steel Fur Wolf Bear (from Thick Furred Wolf Bear), Angelic Wolf Bear (from Light Wolf Bear)…

Note: Linear evolution is not available after a monster has used it once.

"Not only did Kabu upgrade to warrior, but my information viewing ability has upgraded as well. These new details are extremely helpful too. Perhaps this is due to the energy share from our soul pact."

Monsters and their tamers shared soul power through the soul pact, this allowed humans to strengthen their souls. The benefit of this being that with more soul power humans could form soul pacts with not only more monsters, but stronger monsters. A stronger soul also increased resilience toward soul-type attacks, but this was a minuscule change as most humans couldn't withstand an attack from even a novice grade monster.

"If I gained more information in the data sheet from Kabu increasing a grade, that probably means my ability will become stronger as Kabu gets stronger. I doubt it stops there though, if I have multiple monsters I should receive soul power from all of them. Maybe I should look into taming another monster."

Impiro shook his head and decided against getting another monster so soon. Although it would be beneficial to him, it just wasn't practical at this point in time. Feeding, caring, and training two monsters with his little amount of money would just be too much. Therefore he decided to wait on taming a second monster until he had more money saved up.

"It seems choosing linear evolution is like a short-cut! In essence I can skip a step using linear evolution and arrive at the next option. Before Kabu became warrior grade he could evolve into a Blood Horn Wolf Bear, but now he can skip that evolution and go straight to a Demon Horn Wolf Bear which is next in that evolution chain. The only downside appears to be that I only have one option for evolution from each branch, meaning I can only choose the Demon Horn Wolf Bear from the Blood Horn Wolf Bear evolution tree."

This bit of news was most reassuring to Impiro as it meant using linear evolution wasn't a bad idea on his part, but rather logical. From now on he decided to use linear evolution on higher grade monsters though so as to skip harder evolution steps.

"I think it's time we went on an adventure, what do you think Kabu?"

Impiro was now teeming with excitement as Kabu was finally ready to start leveling up again. This was great since Impiro now had access to several worlds across the frontier to train on.

Adventuring wasn't the only thing that excited Impiro though, as he had confirmed that his secret ability was full proof in monster evolution too! This gave him a huge advantage over everyone else, including the most knowledgeable monster specialists in the world!

Kabu nodded his head almost violently, showing that he really wanted to test out his new abilities.

"That settles it then! I'll prepare everything here at home and figure out the details of the trip, we'll leave as soon as possible."

The pair turned around and proceeded to walk inside, but Kabu was too large to fit through the door.

"I almost forgot! Looks like you'll have to sleep outdoors from now on."

Kabu dropped his head low to pout, he was obviously unwilling to sleep outside without Impiro.

"Don't worry boy, how about we look into getting you a dog house out here? I bet we could build one for cheap if we got the right people to do the job."

Although Kabu didn't know what a dog house was, he knew what a house was thanks to living with Impiro and his mom. The idea of having this 'dog house' for himself was all too good to be true. He licked Impiro's chest to say yes.

"Alright boy, I get it. Let's use the side gate to get you out front and we'll go talk to Akiro. His dad runs a construction company, maybe he'll be able to help us out with your dog house."

In the year 2019 Earth experienced a world-wide event called "the breach" where endless waves of monsters invaded the planet through portals. Humans fought a war for two straight years without gaining the upper hand against the powerful monster hordes. It wasn't until world leaders came together and founded the Interdimensional Ranger Association (IRA) that things began to change in humanity's favor. The IRA trained people to become rangers capable of taming monsters and using them to fight. With the help of rangers around the globe the monster hoards were pushed back and scientists created the Nexus to prevent more portals from opening up on Earth.

Ten years later and now monsters are a central aspect of human society. Many children wish to grow up and become rangers in order to train monsters and explore the frontier. Our protagonist, Impiro Fushima, is no different. Now at the age of 18 he's able to become a Ranger once he graduates from high school. However, one thing sticks out about Impiro: after taming his first monster he receives a special status window that allows him to view detailed information about monsters! With this he could become the strongest ranger ever!

A Being was one of the three classifications used by the British Ministry of Magic to catalogue the various magical Creatures that inhabited the wizarding world (the others being Beast and Spirit). The definition of a Being was "any creature that has sufficient intelligence to understand the laws of the magical community and to bear part of the responsibility in shaping those laws". This definition was laid down by Minister for Magic Grogan Stump in 1811, and the Being Division was formed as part of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

The definition of "Being" had a long and troubled history. In the fourteenth century, Burdock Muldoon, Chief of the Wizards' Council, attempted to define Beings as any member of the magical community that walked on two legs. Muldoon invited all Beings to a summit to discuss new magical laws, and saw that his definition was unworkable. Goblins had brought with them every creature they could find with two legs, including Diricawls, Augureys, Fwoopers, Pixies, Fairies, and Trolls, and the summit descended into chaos when the Trolls started to destroy the chamber with their clubs.

Muldoon's successor, Elfrida Clagg, attempted to redefine Beings as those that could speak the Human tongue. However, there were still problems at the next summit. Trolls were still classed as Beings since they could be taught the Human tongue, and Jarveys were in attendance. The Centaurs refused to take part since the Merpeople were excluded, as Mermish cannot be understood above water. Ghosts, who had not been classed as Beings under Muldoon since they glided, left in disgust at the Council's emphasis on matters of the living over matters of the dead.

In 1811, Grogan Stump laid down the new definition of a Being, to the agreement of the magical community, along with the definition of a "Beast". However, the Ghosts were still sensitive to being classed as Beings since they were dead, and a new definition, "Spirit" was created for them.

Examples

Humans (Muggles and wizards and witches) were beings, though there were extremists who campaigned for the classification of Muggles as Beasts. Goblins, vampires, hags, giants, house-elves, veela, and werewolves in their human form were also given this status. It is important to note that when there was a full moon, the werewolf in its transformed state would be classified as a beast and not a being.

Merpeople and centaurs were offered this status, but refused because they did not want to be grouped with creatures such as hags and vampires, and were by default classified as Beasts.

Other creatures fit the qualifications that define Being (intelligent speech), such as Acromantulas, Sphinxes, Manticores, and Erklings, but were not even offered Being status due to their extremely violent and even lethal tendencies, and thus they were also classified as Beasts.

Dementors and Boggarts, on the other hand, were neither a Being nor a Beast, as they were non-beings.

Behind the scenes

The final definition seems to determine that any creature with sapience can be considered a Being. This concept is noted in various science fiction universes, especially in Star Wars. However, some of the less civilised sapient species do not possess the status of beings, like Banshees or Manticores.
In the German translation, the Being status is translated as Zauberwesen ("magical creatures"). This translation is problematic in-universe, as this classification also includes giants and even Muggles, who have no magical abilities at all. The other classifications are translated Tierwesen ("animal creatures") and Geisterwesen ("spirit creatures").
