Mount Liang Wolf King's eyes gleamed, but it later questioned with a frown, "Master Ou, how mighty will the skills be after the overlay effect?"
The young fellow could not help but laugh. "You asked the right person. Heh, in terms of mightiness, none of your innate skills are offensive skills, so they won't be mighty at all. That said, their durations can be prolonged to twice their original durations."

Steven sent a fervent gaze in the legendary mage's way, feeling like Sharon was still biased towards him. The Solams had prepared all kinds of explanations in case they investigated into their armoured rabbit, but their participation was still upheld. Sharon just brushed it aside the moment Blackgold brought it up. It was a pity, though; she didn't spare a single glance at Steven, like something else was on her mind. It was obvious she had no interest in watching this battle.

The winter wolf sent a low howl echoing throughout the arena, crouching towards the ground. This was an enemy it had never come across, so it chose to be both cautious and observant. As a mature male, it was both fierce and cunning.

On the other hand, the mutated snow rabbit was evidently somewhat afraid, even before the wolf released its predatory aura. It jumped around uneasily in circles, attempting to leave the arena. It was this opportunity that the wolf seized to strike.

The wolf threw itself behind the rabbit with a single jump, biting down on the rabbit's rear end. However, there was armour protecting the backside of the rabbit as well, protecting its vulnerable anus. The bite of the wolf was strong enough to deform the lafite steel, but not enough to kill the rabbit.

The intense pain triggered the ferocious side of the rabbit, and it kicked hard enough at the wolf's head to leave an unexpected indent in its wake. It let out a beastly howl before jumping on the wolf, taking a large bit of its shoulder flesh. The wolf's own bestial instincts came into play, however, and it fought back.

The more attentive ones in the audience had already seen the Elementary Agility and Elementary Strength runes inscribed on the rabbit, but it still depended on its scales and armour. Lafite steel was the same material used in rune knight armour, but it was modified here to suit the strength and body of the rabbit. Even so, this was far superior to the natural fur and scales of other beasts, requiring the winter wolf to gnaw at it repeatedly before it wore away.

The rabbits Steven had bred were all as strong as hunting hounds, and this particular one was the best out of hundreds. That was why it could bear two runes on its body, its fighting ability actually slightly at an edge over the winter wolf for the very same reason. On top of that, its scales were bred to be resistant to cold, so the frost breath of the winter wolf was greatly weakened. For a moment, it seemed like both the beasts were equal in strength.

The Solams were all holding their breaths, and Steven was clutching tightly to the railing before him, sweating so much that his palms could slip out under him at any moment. Every bite the wolf took out of the rabbit made him shudder, like the damage was not to the rabbit's body but to his own.

The winter wolf was already a mess, a large amount of its flesh having been torn off by the rabbit's incessant attacks. However, its own bestial nature had been pushed to the extreme, its attacks more and more threatening. The contrast between the two creatures began to show, the pure predator that was the wolf dominating the rabbit who'd never hunted in its life. The rabbit was only biting and tearing to survive, but it didn't know at all what vital areas were. With only two generations of breeding it was impossible to raise a species' intelligence significantly. Although some runes could indeed increase intelligence, those were all at least grade 4 with few runemasters able to make them. Even an alpha winter wolf wouldn't be able to bear that, let alone a snow rabbit.

The wolf was exhibiting its vicious cunning. It circled the snow rabbit, each of its attacks aimed at the latter's vital points. The neck, anus, abdomen and joints were all targeted, and as the wolf grew more familiar with the armour over battle it learned how to tear it apart and aim at the weaker areas. It even managed to rip out many of the rabbit's natural scales.

Although the wolf was bathed in wounds at this point, the injuries were pretty much all superficial. It hadn't weakened at all, while the rabbit already had one of its back legs bitten off so its movement was impeded greatly. Most of its armour, especially at the back, was also torn, revealing vital weak spots.

From this, many could already tell the outcome of this battle. As expected, the wolf ended everything by jumping onto the rabbit, using its weight to flip the smaller creature over and take a fatal bite of its tender abdomen.

"Aww!" Steven sighed in disappointment. The rabbit was still not a match for the wolf despite being mutated and having fangs. But he was also in relief, because the wolf was substantially injured as well. If the snow rabbits from both sides could not defeat the wolf, then the outcome would be judged based on the amount of injuries left behind.

Richard didn't have the kind of mutated snow rabbit the Solams had invested so heavily into, meaning it was impossible for it to carry two runes. If a rabbit with two runes couldn't beat a winter wolf, then it would be impossible for a rabbit with only one. Saint Klaus had already mentioned that it was impossible for a snow rabbit to beat a winter wolf with only elementary rune slots.

The injured wolf returned to its cage, whereas the carcass of the mutated rabbit was collected by the mages of Deepblue for further examination to ensure that all the runes on it were all made by Steven. After a clean-up, a new mature winter wolf was introduced to the arena. It was Richard's turn now.

Steven let out a sigh of relief as he saw this wolf, but also felt somewhat downcast. This wolf was almost identical to the one he faced in terms of size and strength, showing the Deepblue's impartial nature. He felt sad that Sharon's bias had its limits, and was unpredictable. It could be a source of light when he'd lost all hope, but it could also disappear when he was most expectant.

If a mutated rabbit was still alright, then why not give Richard an alpha wolf?

My sword is tiny compared to its claws; it is a little more than a meter long, while the claws are five meters long; it looked like a child's toy in front of its claws.
The Golden Fiery Wolf took my head before taking a rest of my body, and soon, I myself inside a six-meter long fiery wolf's body; it is very hot in there, hot enough that gold will turn to liquid in second.
The next moment, the temperature increased three times more as the second golden fiery wolf merged inside the first, tripling its immediately.
"Human, you are too overconfident; my 'Lupine Hell' is not a pure offensive move; it is a caging move. Once caught, the Golden Fire of mine will painfully torture one till one turned to ashes," The Werewolf said with a laugh.

A loud gasp rang out of the audience hearing it; they looked devastated seeing me captured in this insidious move and partly blame me, as they thought I had uselessly taken the risk fighting against this move head-on, I would have either dodged or use defensive method to deal with the attack.
Inside the fiery wolf is an absolute furnace; the Golden Fire is not simple. I had heard about the fire of the Golden Fire Werewolf tribe and how lethal it became when their tribe's Inheritance merged with it, and now I am experiencing it, I believed it.
No wonder the Golden Fire Werewolf Tribe is the top of all werewolf tribe and have their member in High Table of Grimm Race, but it will not be able to stop me, the Werewolf has underestimated me too much.
I looked around the blazing Golden Fire that was attacking me from all directions and concentrated on my runes; as I did, that suction is created from all of them.
Shoo!
Next second, blazing hot energy began to get sucked inside me; after reaching the King Stage, I could somehow control the natural sucking ability of my runes.
Before reaching the King stage, I was not able to do something like that with my runes; the only thing I could do is activate and deactivated the formation of my Inheritance.
This natural ability used to activate on its own, as the energies touched my armor whether I wanted or not, but now I could control it; it couldn't help but make me happy.
GASP!
The runes kept sucking, and three seconds later, everything is over. The fiery wolf that had eaten me had got eaten by me, seeing that crowd couldn't help but gasp loudly, it is not just the crowd that is shocked but also the Werewolf.
"You are not that powerful, but you have quite a few tricks to deal with powerful attacks; Lord has warned me about it; I should have listened to them," It said as rage begin to appear in its eyes.
"You are not the opponent who will be dealt by with some simple attack; I will have to use some powerful ones to deal with you," It said and as it looked directly into my eyes.
"Claws of Vaerensod!" It said, and a phantom of huge Werewolf appeared behind it. This Phantom also had golden fur and a symbol of flame on his head, but it looked a lot more regal, and when I looked into its eyes, I felt a fear like I had never felt before.
I quickly looked away, and its a good thing; I did as the Werewolf coming toward with its claws shining, seeing the glistering shine and mute terrifying aura that cloaking the Werewolf; I know this is no simple move like last time.
I had to take it a lot more seriously; underestimating this attack would have my pieces lying on the arena the next second.
'Rose Vine!'
I said, and five hands made of the diamond vines hands holding red diamond sword same design and size of my sword came out of my back; at the same time, my runes sucked more energy from the tower for the 'First Boost' and provided me with more strength.  
The five-diamond vine hands to deal with the two claws may seem excessive, but it is not. If the power I am sensing from this attack is true, then I would need these hands and might even summon more.
Those two claws of its glistering with power are vibrating in it. I had deployed the sensory field; it gave me information on this attack that it wanted to hide.
If I were to deal with this attack as a normal attack, then I am fucked; I will be finished in a single strike.

As Arthur read them, he finally started to see hope. From what he knew, runes were symbols giving special effects using mana. Artifacts of the past had runes that gave them their special functions. For example, there were weapons that would burn with fire if injected with mana, and some would freeze what they touch. Some artifacts would cast barriers and others would be used to heal people in a given radius. These were all achieved by runes engraved on the artifacts themselves. Scientists tried to replicated these runes but they only succeeded in making artificial ones at most, as they only shared the mana path with genuine runes. 
"Detect." Arthur muttered and willed the detection rune to activated. He felt something escaping his body and guessed it was the mana. A white symbol appeared above his palm and it radiated a faint yellow glow. It pulsed several times and Arthur could feel invisible waves traveling from his hand to the surround. As they travelled, Arthur could strangely know what they encountered. The symbol kept pulsing and Arthur could now perceive lifeforms in a 50-meters radius. He ignored the ones deep underground and focused on his surroundings. Other than some lifeforms in the lake, the forest was mostly empty of monster. There were some birds and bugs but Arthur could perceive they were harmless. 
With his radar like new ability, Arthur began to walk through the forest. As he kept on walking hastily, he went deeper and deeper. At some point, he sensed a wolf in the forest and he changed directions and kept going. This ability allowed him to travel for 10 minutes before the symbol dimmed and disappeared.
"Phew." Arthur sighed and stopped in his tracks. Luckily, the sun was still up although there was an orange hue in the sky. There wasn't much time left before night would set. He needed to get some food and a shelter for the night. As he looked around, he saw a tree with some fruits. Although they wouldn't fill his stomach, they would at least sustain him. He did think about hunting a rabbit or something, but he didn't know how to butcher it or even start a fire, given that he had the equipment for that which he clearly didn't. 
As he checked his mana while eating, he found that it was still 0/1. It appeared he can use one rune before it emptied out. He waited for it to recover as he ate. After another 5 minutes, his mana was back. He didn't know if it didn't take long, only 15 minutes, because he at or if it regenerated by itself. He used the Detection-I rune again and continued on marching. He started heading toward a mountain in the distance hoping to find an empty cave.

After three hours of looking around, Arthur finally managed to find a noninhibited cave. It was shallow and didn't offer any protection but a roof for the night. Before it was too dark, he broke some branches and twigs to make a weapon and a fire. He didn't know how to make the latter and he simply sharpened a branch using the cave wall for the former. The night took over the sky and the darkness blanketed the world. A chill was brought by the lack of sun and Arthur had to endure the cold. He finally succeeded in making some fire by rubbing some twigs against the branches. He was finally able to and light spread through the cave. Arthur decided against sleeping for the night as he heard the howls of monsters in the forest. He kept dozing off and waking up to remember to use the Detection rune to know if a beast was nearby.

"Growl…" 
His consciousness brought to reality by the sound of a low growl, Arthur sprung to his feet in terror. He has fallen asleep without knowing it and an injured wolf was at the entrance of the cave. Arthur picked his sharpened pole and readied himself for battle. However, the wolf appeared too injured to fight as it limped while keeping an eye on Arthur to the wall of the cave. It inched slowly toward the fire and collapsed, breathing heavily. 
Arthur relaxed his tensed body as he saw this. He then wondered if he should kill the wolf before it heals itself. As he looked at the wolf and his hand, he saw both of them were shaking. He wasn't ready to do this. Not now at least, and not toward an injured beast. He decided to use Detection for now in case whatever injured the wolf was nearby. Luckily, nothing of that sort was near. He sighed in relief and slumped to the ground. It has been a close call. If something more threatening appeared, he wouldn't have the time to escape. Luckily, it was only an injured wolf this time. 
The next day, Arthur descended the mountain to look for some prey. He knew he couldn't stay for long without getting the proper nourishment. He used his detection skills to find a rabbit hole and wait for them to show themselves. As soon as one did, Arthur stabbed the rabbit who continued to struggle as it was impaled in his pole. He couldn't help but close his eyes as he heard the pitiful screams. He kept telling himself that he needed to harden his heart if he wanted to survive. 
The guilt was short-lived as it was replaced with hunger. Using the Strength-I rune, he skinned the rabbit using his bare hands. It was grotesque but essential for his survival. He threw up one time before calming himself and heading back toward the cave. 
As he sat by the fire ready to cook the meat, the wolf whimpered as it smelled the food. It was too weak for Arthur to worry about as it couldn't even move. Its black fur was already dyed half red with dried up blood. As he contemplated the matter, Arthur took a rabbit thigh and threw it toward the wolf. 
"For our survival." Arthur started cooking his food. However, he later noticed that the meat he threw to the wolf was untouched as it was so weak that it couldn't even move to eat. Arthur sighed and stared at the wolf for a while. 
"I just hope this won't come back to bite me… Quite literally, in fact." Arthur walked toward the wolf as a Strength-I rune appeared in his hand. He then placed his hand on the wolf and scurried away in case the wolf decided to jump on him. However, nothing of that sort happened. As the wolf gained sudden strength, it was confused but didn't think too much about it. It stood up and went to the food and started eating. Then, a scene of one man and one wolf sharing a meal took place.

After his meal, Arthur was now energized enough to go out and explore the rest of the forest. On his way out, he saw that there were signs of battle and blood. He didn't know if they were human, but he guessed them to be judging by the wound inflicted on the wolf. As he traced the signs of battles in hope of finding some civilization, he finally met his first opponent. It was a horned snake with a girth half his and a length of 1.5-meteres. He didn't know if could take it on but he had a special hate for snakes and anything similar. Furthermore, he knew he couldn't keep going without killing any monsters. 
Before he got noticed, Arthur waited his mana to refill before he imprinted Agility-I on himself. He felt lighter and faster, just what he needed to fight this monster. He didn't have any time to waste as the rune lasted 10 minutes at best. He dashed toward the horned snake that was too preoccupied munching on something to notice him in time. As he stabbed with his wound, he was able to inflict a deep injury in its face. However, it wasn't enough to kill it. He sensed the snake was trying to jump him so he evaded in the neck of a time. He then repeated his earlier endeavor until the snake limped to the ground, dead. 
[First beast slain. Special rune obtained. Level 2 has been reached] 
After the battle ended, Arthur saw rows appear in front of him. His guess was right, the Legacy wanted him to grow stronger. He needed to be stronger to do what Jizo asked him to, so it only made sense that hunting would reward him. 
He sat on the ground resting as he examined the new changes brought by the Legacy. As he willed it, his information appeared again just like the first time.

They piled back onto the wagon with a few extra additions. They were lucky that they had so much extra room, because the addition of Elias' wolf took a lot of space.
The grey alpha wolf growled, causing the remaining grey wolves' ears to perk up, twitching. There were only four other wolves left, but they dutifully got into formation next to the wagon.
On the other hand, the purple wolf that Alec had acquired only had two other members left from its pack.
Alec rubbed the purple wolf's ears, dubbing him Fenrir. Elias called the grey wolf Echo.
Alec dragged Henry to the back before he tried to go and continue driving the horses.
With a gentle smile that didn't match his actions, Alec quickly and methodically slathered salve over the man's lighter wounds without any delicacy.
Henry hissed in pain, but dutifully started healing himself of the worst of his wounds, pouring a liberal amount of magic into the wounds that were still bleeding sluggishly. By the time they were left with a faint scab over them, Alec slapped more healing salve onto it.
He had made the salve himself from the variety of flower petals that were commonly available inside Stanley's shop during the two weeks, and they seemed to be working fine, much to his satisfaction.
Elias got off comparatively lightly, with fewer bite marks and claw marks, so Alec let him be with just a light amount of healing salve over his wounds.
Having done that, Alec worked on himself and Fenrir, who were relatively worse off due to their prolonged battle of dominance.
Henry, who saw that the wounds on Alec and Fenrir was just as bad as he himself had been sporting, placed his hand over the boy's wound, trying to heal him as he healed himself.
Alec held still for the man, wondering how effective his healing was on other people.
The hunter furrowed his brows, sweat beading his brow. The wounds knit ever so slowly under his intense focus, leaving the man breathless.
Alec stared as his wounds slowly scabbed over. The scab peeled off, leaving behind flawless skin. 
Henry groaned. "Ugh, that was harder than I thought." The hunter scratched his cheek. "Gotta work harder on that…"
The man lightly worked over the other two wolves, just barely managing to finish healing the wounds before he passed out.
They stared at the passed-out hunter for a beat before Philip scratched the back of his head. "Well, I suppose it's up to me now."
Philip climbed to the front of the wagon, frowning. The horses were shaking in their metaphorical boots at the sight of the wolves nearby. The creatures weren't even doing anything, but their mere presence alone was causing the horses to quiver in fear.
This wasn't good.
Philip lifted the flap, shaking his head. "The horses won't run. They're too scared."
Alec paused before looking at Fenrir. "Fenrir, can your wolves pull us instead?"
Fenrir snorted, tossing his head back, as if Alec was looking down on him by asking at all.
He gave a short howl, and the wolves outside moved in a uniform manner to the front, looking unbothered. The grey wolves seemed to have accepted that their pack was now merged into one, with a shared alpha position between the two small humans.
While leaving Philip outside to the wolves, they set off without any more delays, moving at a much quicker pace than before. The horses were let go into the wild.
Settling in with two wolves, a large bunny, a passed-out grown man and a teenager, Alec finally had time to help out Elias with his potential bond.
"Do you want a familiar bond with Echo? Or are you just planning to continue like this?"
Elias thought about it. "If possible, I'd like to have a familiar bond with Echo."
Alec nodded, pulling out a glass rod from his spatial dimension. He shooed Fenrir and Bunbun to the side, where they stared each other down. A huge bunny staring at a small wolf, who didn't back down.
Elias stared. Where had that brush come from? A spatial dimension? But Alec didn't seem to be wearing anything that would allow such a thing.
As Elias was thinking, Alec used some of the blood that he'd collected from Echo and Elias, mixing them together as he crafted the runes in his mind.
For a familiar bond, the standard fare was to use the runes to form something akin to a communication bond.
It was not unlike what Alec naturally experienced when he Awakened something, just simpler and more one dimensional.
Those people would be able to very faintly feel what the other party was feeling, as well as track where they were located within a certain distance.
This type of rune usage was something that people used to communicate long distances as well, so it was really nothing special, but what Alec had in mind was more complex than that.
He wanted to form a bond on the genetic level, which would allow them to use part of each other's specialties. Of course, nothing so crude that would cause them to gain extra appendages or what not. It was like they were next of kin. They weren't altering their original genes, just adding a link between their genes, if that made sense.
Theoretically, it was possible… it was just that Alec hadn't tested it out before.
Of course, this wasn't something that was crafted on the fly, but something that he had worked on with his mother back in the clan compound, so it had her approval, but even then he still hadn't used it before, so there was always a chance that something would go wrong.
Alec ran through it again in his mind before practicing twice.
When he was satisfied that he would finish drawing the runes without any mistakes, he dipped his glass rod into the mixture of blood.
Alec moved over to the alpha wolf, eyeing the mass of fur. Alec smiled lightly as he slid his dagger out. Echo growled at him, his ears flattening.
"Echo," Elias admonished lightly.
Echo whined but obediently held still as Alec shaved off some fur so that he would have space to work on.
Alec drew the runes with precision, drawing normally. Whilst he didn't want to make mistakes, drawing at a speed that was unfamiliar to him would potentially cause him to make mistakes instead. Sometimes, going slower didn't mean that there was an absence in errors.
"Don't move," Alec ordered the wolf. "I need to paint it on your back."
Elias loosened his top, pulling it over his head. His back muscles flexed as he pulled is top off, looking unbothered.
The markings in red inked themselves over pale skin, carrying a sheen as they dried on his back. He worked at a slightly quicker pace now that he was more used to drawing the runes.
Alec stepped back. There was a bloom of red runes over the two's back. Alec looked over both sets of runes with a critical eye, finally satisfied when nothing was out of place.
"Channel a bit of magic into them on the count of three. One, two, three."
The red marks appeared as if they faded out of existence, but Alec knew that they had taken place. Whether or not it worked as advertised was another matter, but Alec was confident.
Even if they were hurt in the area of the runes, it didn't matter because the runes already took, which meant that they were already considered a part of the genetic level.
This was one of the reasons why it was so hard to remove a slave brand.
Echo whined and put his head in Elias' lap, seeking comfort. His smooth, glorious fur had been shaved by a madman!
Elias patted the wolf.

With a shimmer of light, three figures appeared in a small copse of trees. Peering around quickly, they verified that no one was around. Satisfied that the area was clear, one of the figures opened his mouth.
"You guys ready to head back to the wolf den?" asked one of the figures, a tall, skinny human in his late teens. His black hair and pale skin contrasted sharply with the red leather he was wearing, giving him a dangerous appearance. A sword hung on his back while a dagger could be seen at his waist. His features were fairly sharp, as if he was ready to cut into whoever stood in his way.
"Yeah sure. Hopefully those guys come and deliver us some more items," the second figure laughed, testing the string of his bow as he did so. This new speaker was even taller than the first, wearing the same red leathers but with a quiver of arrows strapped to his side rather than a dagger. On his back was a sword, while a pair of daggers were strapped to his thighs. As he looked up from his bow, his face came into view, with dark black hair and olive skin it was clear that he was of asian descent. His face, slightly rounder than the first figure's had a mischievous grin etched on it, as if he was excited at the prospect of whoever 'those guys' happened to be, reappearing to deliver their group more items.
"As long as they're as easy to kill as they were last time," the third figure piped up. Shorter than his companions, he too was asian. Unlike the other two who were humans, the third speaker was an elf, though even the slim elven form didn't allow him to compete the first figure in regards to slimness. A sword hung in a sheath at his side, while a large wooden shield with a metal boss on the front hung from his left arm.
"I'm sure they didn't magically get way better at the game overnight Gio," said the second figure, rolling his eyes at Gio as he did so.
"True, they did kinda suck," Gio admitted.
"As long as Jun can take out their leader like he did last time it doesn't matter even if they played all night and gained a ton of levels," the first figure chimed in, running a hand through his hair as he did so.
"Yeah, just keep their fighters away from me and we'll be fine," Jun replied with a grin.
Gio sighed, "Yeah well you two aren't the tanks. It's not easy keeping them from charging past to get at Jun. You sure you can't help tank Ryan?"
"I can help with the frontline if you really need it. But I think it's better for me to kill their mage like I did last time. They're scrubs anyways, just focus on staying alive and me and Jun will kill them all," Ryan laughed. Jun echoed the sentiment while Gio just sighed, cracking a smile as he watched Jun imitate the expression on their opponents leader's face as he'd died, his eyes open comically large and his mouth gaping like that of a fish.

Checking their gear, the three began to head east, following the path towards a set of caves they'd discovered the night before.
"Oh yeah, did you two get Eric's rune file?" Ryan asked, absentmindedly attempting to draw a pair of runes in midair as he walked along.
"Yeah I got it," replied Jun.
"Same," said Gio.
"I can't quite seem to get the spell right. Every time I cast it it fizzles," said Ryan with a frustrated expression, watching as his runes shattered into small shards of light for the umpteenth time.
"You sure Eric didn't send you the wrong runes just to screw with you? Seems like something he'd do," Jun suggested.
"To you maybe, I'm fairly sure Eric would send the right runes to the rest of us," Ryan retorted, continuing his attempts to cast the spell. As his runes shattered once more he sighed, stowing the wand in his storage, "I'm nearly out of mana. You guys want to try and see if you can get it? I wanna see if it's me or the runes that are the problem."
Taking out their wands, Gio and Jun began to mimic Ryan's previous actions, cheerfully chatting as they approached the cave system. Just like Ryan, Gio failed to cast the spell, his runes shattering into motes of light as his spell fizzled once more. Just as Ryan was about to suggest they give up, a dim glow lit up the forest nearby. Turning, Ryan and Gio beheld a pair of glowing runes emitting a dim glow near the tip of Jun's wand. 
Pointing his wand towards a nearby tree, Jun fired the spell, a blade of wind emerging from the runes and howling towards a nearby bush. Cutting right through the bush, the wind blade continued, not stopping until it slammed into a stone almost thirty meters away.
"Guess he gave you the right runes after all," Gio commented dryly, observing the path of destruction the wind blade had left in its wake.
Ryan whistled, "Damn. Now I really want to learn this spell. I wonder if I'm not high enough level to use it yet?"
"It didn't work until I put in almost double the mana I used for Flame Strike. Try forcing out more mana," Jun explained, reading the description of his new spell as he stowed his wand back in his storage pouch. 
"I'll try later, I think we've arrived," said Ryan, pushing aside a branch to reveal an enormous cave looming large only a few dozen meters from the group. As the three emerged into the clearing, a loud howl sounded, a trio of wolves leaping down from where they'd been sunning themselves on top of the cave entrance. 
Racing towards the party, the lead wolf leapt at Ryan who was just staring impassively at the lupine intruders. Just as the wolf's claws were about to tear into his leather armour, a blur arrived, slamming into the wolf and sending it flying with a sharp yipping noise.
Standing in front of Ryan, Gio stood tall, his shield held sturdily in front of him, "You wanna take out your weapons? Or are you just gonna stand around like Liam in a teamfight," Gio asked, swinging his blade at a second wolf to keep it at bay. 
"It's fine, you got this," said Ryan, yawning as another wolf leapt towards him. This wolf was not as lucky as the first had been, with a whirring sound, an arrow exploded into its eye, the creature crashing to the ground and skidding to Ryan's feet.
"Nice shot," he commented, giving Jun a thumbs up.
"I'm not going to miss, I'm not you."
"Ouch. Hurtful," said Ryan in a monotone voice, drawing his sword and cutting down a wolf about to bite at Gio. As his blade sunk into the wolf's back, Gio's sword was emerging from the back of the final wolf's throat. With a gurgling sound, the two wolves collapsed to the ground, having utterly failed to even scratch the party.
"Sorry, want me to buy you a drink later babe?"
"As long as you don't buy the cheap shit again. The stuff you bought last time tasted like water."
"Are you two gonna keep flirting or help me loot these wolves?" Gio interjected, with a look that made it obvious that he was tired of his friends antics. With a laugh, Ryan and Jun walked over, bending down to retrieve their spoils.
"These monsters are too easy, it's like last hitting in League," Ryan complained as he looted the wolf he'd just killed.
"Hopefully there's goblins or something strong further down in the caves. Isn't that what that cute NPC chick told you, Gio?" asked Jun, retrieving his arrow from the wolf's skull.
"Yup, the villagers think there's something breeding the wolves further down below. The army won't investigate though as they have bigger problems to deal with. And the militia isn't strong enough to risk sending men down to check it out. So the wolves have multiplied," Gio explained.
"Well I hope there's an elite down there. Or even better an elite and some goblins. At the very least I want bigger packs further down. These guys are too easy to kill in small packs," said Ryan, nudging the body of the wolf with his foot. Jun nodded his agreement while Gio just sighed, "You guys say that. But I'm the one who has to tank them you know."
"Just don't be a scrub and you'll be fine, Gio," Jun said with a laugh, walking towards the cave. Laughing at his friend's antics, Ryan followed, leaving Gio to follow them inside.

The interior of the cave was surprisingly well lit with sunlight streaming in from holes up above, and miniature crystals that glowed dimly jutting out from the walls. The limestone walls shone with a pale hue, light reflecting off the slow streams of water that dripped onto the walls from above.
Following the path they'd tread before, the trio made their way through the caves, casually slaying red-maned wolves as they chatted about the game and the competition.
"I'm just saying, the more people we kill the faster we can get ourselves set up for the Kingdom representative tournament. We can also keep our opponents from leveling by killing them, it's two birds with one stone," said Jun. Firing a Charged Shot into the throat of a howling wolf, cut off mid-howl the wolf stumbled once before falling to the ground, its healthbar disappearing.
"Maybe we should let them howl? Perhaps they can summon reinforcements," Ryan observed, wiping his sword on the dead wolfs fur. Standing up he continued, "And I agree with you. We should definitely try to suppress our opponents, but like Mark said, we don't want to make too many enemies, at least not during this stage. Once we've qualified we'll be much more safe from the other teams in the kingdom."
"I don't mind killing small fries like the ones earlier. But we should probably avoid fighting large guilds and gaming studios. Mark will be pissed if we get smashed cause we picked a fight with Yuuki or Ravenholm. Also we could try letting them howl. This new shield is letting me tank them pretty easily," said Gio.
"Eh screw Mark. He plays it too cautious. We're not going to lose to a bunch of scrubs in a fair fight," argued Jun as the trio pressed onward.
"I get what he's saying though. We won't lose in a fair fight, but if they gang up on us then we could be in trouble," said Ryan. Gio nodded, "Exactly. You guys might be able to fight groups on your own. But some of us can only fight one or two enemies at the same time. And if we piss off a few guilds and they all come looking for us, do you really think the GMs are going to stop them?"
"Then we kill them until they're forced to stop. I just want to be able to kill who I want. If Eric's being a dick are you saying I can't kill him?" Jun asked. Ryan laughed, "You can try. He's pretty good at running away from you by now though."
"You've definitely given him lots of practice," Gio added with a grin.

This novel is primarily about gaming in a VRMMO. The MMO is the main setting of the story. There will not be unnecessary drama in real life. There will not be weird subplots about the implications of VR technology. This is a novel about an MMO setting and I plan to keep it that way. Do be warned that the first ten chapters of vol1 (Fate Revealed) is almost entirely worldbuilding and character development. Hopefully everyone can enjoy the first volume all the same!

"Exevo Flam Hur"-I incanted and from the tip of my wand, a wave of flames started to appear, but this time, instead of just one single wave, the wand kept spurting out flames, while I pointed towards the different targets that stood in front of me, letting the flames spread in front of me, swallowing every target until I had to stop.
"Huff… Huff… Huff… Huff…"-I panted while dropping my arm down. "Well… I guess that's my limit for the moments… *sigh…*"
For the last two hours I've been testing different ways to use my spells, and I made a few important discoveries.
First of all, was the possibility of keep using the spells. While the strikes couldn't be kept and had to be incanted again and again to use them multiple times, the flame wave spell could be kept indeed.
Though there were some problems to it, first was the fact that it needed too much focus to do it, and that wasn't even the greatest problem, that place was left to the stress it put over my magic core.
For the moments, I could only keep the spell up to 5 seconds before getting tired, but not like physically tired, it was more like a mental type of tiredness as if all my magic was getting out of my body. Though it wasn't as if I used up all my magic, it was only as if I needed time to rest before use the spell again.
Using game terms, the spell had a casting time, a limit to how much time I could use it continuously. And once I use it, I need a slight rest to use the same spell again. Though, this resting time increased the more time I kept the spell activated, so, in the end, it was a matter of choice, of whether it was better to keep the spell to increase the damage, or make a quick hit before changing the spell in use.
By the way, I tried to do the same with the energy beam spell, but the time I could keep it was even less, at much, it was up for 3 seconds, and I got tired even more than when I used the fire wave spell.
Thinking about it, I guess it has something to do with my magic stage, more likely with my magic core. While my ML might influence this ability to keep up the spell, I have this feeling that the more my magic stage goes up, the more my magic core evolves, the more time I'll be able to keep these spells, and may be able to even do more things.
"*sigh…* For the moments, I think it's okay to stop with the instant spells… Now… Let's test what I've been postponing for so long."-I said while opening the system store.
Thankfully, I didn't have to go through the system interface to do that, as only thinking of the specific function would let me go to it, saving some time. Not that it matters, actually, but it's good to have instant access to things.

{Go big or go home…}-I thought while stopping the tears trying to fall from my eyes at the sudden disappearance of 200pts. {It's okay… From now on I'll win a lot of points each day!}
After making the buy, I grow a little bit curious, so I went quickly towards the vocation store.

"Well, it was good that I didn't see this thing the first time I opened the store… If I did… I would cry blood at the measly number of points I could gather in 10 years…"-I said, sweeping my eyes to clean the tears falling from my eyes thanks to the measly number of points I gathered in 10 years.
After that, I just opened the inventory, trying to focus on more productive things, and took out the runes, that appeared right in front of my eyes.
"Mm? These are smaller than I thought they would be… Well, it's hard to compare with a game like Tibia's graphics…"
What was in front of me, were 20 small and flat stones, each with a slightly irregular figure that wasn't either a square nor a circle.
I could grab each of these rocks with one hand, as they weren't bigger than my palm, I could actually grab two at a time.
{With the picture they had in the game, I thought they would be at least of the size of a tablet… Oh well, this works better for me.}-I thought, before looking at the wolf that suddenly came to smell the little mound of rocks that was on the floor.
"Relax buddy, they're blank runes, special stones that would let me create magical runes that will add new powers to my arsenal. Want to see?"-I ask the wolf.
*Wof, wof*-It barked at me as if approving the idea.
"You know, I've been thinking this from the start… But for you to be such a big wolf, you sure sound more like a dog to me… Albeit, a slightly big one…"-I said while rubbing its head. To which it only tilted its head.
"Well, let's think… Mm… With which rune should I start…"-I look at the blank rune in my hand. "Well, let's go with the destroy field rune."-I then stood up and held a blank rune in my hand.
"Adito Grav"-I incant the rune spell, and the blank rune in my hand started to absorb the magic power from my core, slightly changing its color, going from a light grey, to a darker shade of grey, and right in the center of it, a symbol was being carved by what seemed to be magic power of a whitish-grey color.
After a few seconds, the symbol was completely carved in the rune, it had two wavy lines, one beside the other in the center of the now darker-grey colored stone. Turning the flat stone, on the back of it I could see three horizontally joined lines, that seemed to resemble the roman number three.
[Congratulations! You've completed a hidden quest! You've created your first rune after years of not even looking at the runes page of the store! Now the path is open to increasing your power even more!]

"That's a nice surprise. Now I'll just have to earn 175pts more to restore the 200pts I wasted on the blank runes."
*Wof, wof*-The wolf suddenly barked at me.
"Fine, fine, I'll start now…"-I then looked at some of the targets on my left and pointed my wand to send a fire wave spell, which created a path of flames where it hit, that would surely be recognized as a fire field.
"Now… How the heck do I use this?"-I said while looking at the rune. "Well, let's try to send some magic power to it first."-Focusing on the rune, I sent magic power to it, and once I did, it started to shine in a grayish light. Still, nothing happened.
"So?"-I looked at the shining rune on my hands, but nothing was happening. "Mm… In the game you normally add hotkeys to this thing, or use the mouse to use the rune and then just point towards the target you want it to be used… Well, until now, will mostly do the trick, so I guess it's just about focusing my will on the target instead of using a mouse."
I tightened my grip on the rune and looked at the fire field in front of me. It was at that time, that a grey light went out of the rune and impacted the starting point of the field, turning into a somewhat grey wave of light that ran through the field and extinguished the flames.
[Congratulations! You've completed a hidden quest! You've successfully used your first rune! And with a great combination of countering spells!]

"Well… This is a good surprise!"
After the rune was used, the light on the rune disappeared, but the rune was still there.
"Oh, right! Some runes had multiple uses. Mm? Of course!"-I then turned the rune and looked behind, and just as I imagine it, the roman number three transformed into a roman number two. "So, this number here was the number of uses the rune had… Well, certainly, while the amount of magic power needed to conjure them depends on the rune, the amount needed to activate them is almost unnoticeable, just a slight touch of magic power can activate them… The rest is up to will."
With one rune tested, I left it inside my inventory and then got to the next blank rune.
"Now, what I'll do with you?"-I said while looking at the blank rune on my hand until a new idea got into my head. "Right. Let's do one field rune of each."
With that said, I grabbed two more blank runes, two in one hand and one in the other.
"Let's start with you. Adevo Grav Pox."-I incanted the spell, and the rune on my right hand started to suck my magic power, turning its color into a green that would remind you of a swamp, with the same two wavy lines that the other rune had. Once the symbol was carved, the rune was ready. Behind it, the same roman number three appeared.
"Well, that's one."-I said while dropping it on the floor, and taking another rune from my left hand to my right hand. "Adevo Grav Flam"-Once again the magic power got sucked out of my body, turning the blank rune of a light-grey color into a flaming red color, with the same two wavy lines and the roman number three behind.
After dropping the rune on the floor next to the other one, I grabbed the remaining rune in my hands.
"Adevo Grav Vis"-I incanted, and once again, the magic power was sucked from inside my body into the blank rune, slowly turning it into a purple color, and engraving the same two wavy lines on the front of the rune and the same roman number three on the back.
"Huff… Huff… Huff…"-Once the rune was over, I had to sit down for a little while, as I was completely tired. "It… Seems… That making runes constantly… It's hard… It must have something to do with the spirit points… *sigh…*"
Originally, in the game, you have to invest something called spirit points, which limited the number of runes you could make in a day, so, all in all, I think that in this universe, it mostly translates to 'stop trying to make a lot of runes continuously unless you have enough power to sustain it.'
[Congratulations! Your Magic Level increased by 1!]
"Well… I got a nice reward then… *sigh…* I should probably rest…"-I said before standing up.
After that I collected the runes and the blank runes, putting them inside my inventory, and stretching a little bit. Looking at the hour, it was almost time for lunch.
"Well, I should probably get going. Take a lunch, save some stuff to bring here, and then keep training…"-I said before turning to look at the wolf.
"Mm… What should I do with you?"
"Wof?"-It tilted its head.
"Sorry man… But as much as I would like to keep you… There's just no way to have such a big wolf walking with me around the castle… Well… Not for the moments, at least… So… Is there a spell to cancel this?"
Thinking about it, there's just no spell to dispel the summoning one. But there sure is one to cancel the magic shield one.
"Mm… What if…"-I closed my eyes and focused all my will into the image of the wolf disappearing, in the same way, I could cancel the magic shield. I tried to focus as much as I could on that image, before opening my mouth.
"Exani Res Wolf"-I said with the image in my mind as clear as possible. Thankfully, training my occlumency helped improve my ability to imagine things inside my mind.
*swish*
I opened my eyes to a slight sound, and just as I did, particles of magic light were now dispersing in the air where the wolf once was.
"I did it!!!!"-I shouted, and at the same moment my Magic Spell Book appeared in front of me, with a page in the middle of it shining brilliantly, it then opened in the first blank page, next to the added spell of Wingardium Leviosa, which was the page that was shining.
[Congratulations! You have created your own original spell, albeit a simple one. It is your first creation and will surely put the foundations to create even more complex and powerful ones!]

"Wow… I knew it! Hail the RoR!!!!"-I shouted once again. Since coming to Hogwarts, not only did I increase my ML by two in a single day, but I also created a new spell. I'm not expecting this trend to keep going up, as each passing level my ML gets harder to increase, but still, I'll surely be able to prepare for my third year, when Harry gets here and all sort of stuff starts happening.
"Until then… If I'm not as strong as Dumbledore, I'll surely be at least the most powerful wizard after him and Tom… And that's just the beginning… With so many things happening from that year onwards… I'll surely be able to grow stronger."
After that, I cleaned up everything, meaning just putting my Magic Spell Book inside my inventory to go towards the Great Hall for lunch.

Well, this was an idea I had like a week ago, and wanted to try it out on my journey to learn how to write. So, here it is. It's another fanfic, yes. Because it's easier to write.

Also, with this one, I'll probably post only during the weekends, not daily like with the Novel's Extra's Extra. Firstly because I want to finish the other one, and also because I need to research a lot more (I'm not that knowledgeable in Harry Potter.)

"Protect the rune formation!" exclaimed Venom Snake.
The Life Rune did not belong to the runes that existed within the game. In actual fact, even Rune Masters, such as Hardworking Pants, only had knowledge of a couple of hundreds of runes, and they were all basic runes.
Runes were just like the 26 letters of the alphabet as they could be mixed and matched up to form many words. The English language only had 26 letters, however, there were up to hundreds of basic runes. Thus, one could imagine the large number and variety of rune formations that could be born out of them! This was also one of the reasons many players did not want to step into that field.
Even in the other land, there was only a small number of people who researched the runes. And the Soul Formation was one of their most precious works to date. It was a powerful rune formation that was capable of reviving the dead!
Fierce Wolf ground his teeth as he used his rune-maker authority to pause the formation.
Some explanations regarding the rune formation: After forming a rune formation, it would enter operation mode immediately, and it couldn't be shifted and unloaded, unless the rune formation was destroyed. However, the rune creator would be able to pause the operation and transform it into an item. However, despite such efforts, the rune's powers would still deplete over time.
Fierce Wolf planned to pause the rune formation and keep it in his backpack.
"Soul Knights charge!" roared Venom Snake as he raised his long spear and produced nine duplicates of himself. They shrieked and wailed as they bolted towards Lin Jie!
"Death Grip!" Lin Jie disregarded it all as he grabbed onto Fierce Wolf's calves and vowed to destroy the rune formation! A thought occurred to Fierce Wolf as he activated the Explosion Hurl and shot his glaive out. He accurately calculated the distance and speed of Star Fall such that it would collide with the meteor!
At that moment, the Forward Charge Soul Paladin petrified Lin Jie for half a second, breaking his Death Grip!
Fierce Wolf tumbled and was about to grab the runes in his hands.
Screech—
A sharp screech sounded in his ears as a silvery light ray zapped across to capture the rune. It was the Crescent Silver-Feathered Eagle! It let out an excited shriek and perched happily onto Lin Jie's shoulder.
"Well done!" Lin Jie took the rune and praised, "It's a new rune? Rune formations are hard to innovate, and based on The New Age's record, it will take over ten years to create a new rune since the entire rune could fail if there was a single mistake in the arrangement. It's amazing that you guys were able to create a new rune that was related to life!"
Fierce Wolf growled, "You, what are you planning to do? If you are sensible, you will place the rune down. Otherwise—"
"Otherwise, what?" Lin Jie smiled.
"Otherwise, it will be treason!" Fierce Wolf was enraged. "Why do you think we are doing this?"
"I don't know, but I am not interested either. Contrary to that, I have a greater interest in you guys." Lin Jie's mouth twitched as he didn't want to hear anymore, babbling about loyalty and patriotism. He whipped his Broken Blade and flicked the blade tip tauntingly as he laughed. "Let's fight? Both at once?"
Fierce Wolf fumed in anger. "Venom Snake, go! Instakill this arrogant boy!"
Fallen Blood General•Fierce Wolf! He was the most explosive player in the team, unlike the usual Berserkers that were dual-wielding, he only had one weapon, and that was the [Adma Glaive] that he carried on his back. Other than its powerful attributes, it had another additional effect. 
[Adma Glaive]: When the duration between your current and previous attacks increases, the damage inflicted will also increase! 
Taking this effect as his footing, he created a battle pattern for himself, known as Extreme Explosion!
"Streamline Step!" Fierce Wolf's feet shifted as he left behind a lifelike appearance on the spot. At the same time, his sharp sword grew brighter! This was Adma Glaive's additional effect, where the glaive was capable of absorbing its host's life to enhance all of its attributes! This was also one of the most highly sought after Berserker's skills—Autonomous Blood Loss! It was a skill that allowed for precise control of one's health points to unleash the strongest techniques.
Fierce Wolf unleashed Streamline Step, and his body grew illusory and translucent, while his doppelgangers were duplicated. With every new doppelganger, his blade shone brighter, emitting a Blade Aura that almost blinded the masses.
Blood Power! Heart of Enrage!
Blood pumped vigorously through Fierce Wolf's body as flurry noises sounded from his veins! It was the sound of intense blood hydraulic flow!
"Adma Judgement!" In a flash, Fierce Wolf landed behind Lin Jie and slashed his two-meters-long glaive down. The glaive shone bright gold as it exuded a powerful aura! The Adma Judgement was a mighty skill that possessed 100% Defense Disregard, and hence he had to succeed in one attack!
Venom Snake didn't idle as he probed his right hand forward and brought his left hand to his heart and growled, "Unbreakable Seal!"
[Unbreakable Seal], just as its name suggested, was unable to be lifted off! It would be cast at the cost of sealing the caster's skills. He knew that Lin Jie had Dark Chaotic Hole, so he wanted to seal off all of his special skills.
"Die!" growled Fierce Wolf as victory was right ahead, and he let out a cunning grin.
"Clomaros' Seven Kills•Death Ray Kill!"
Duang!
Fierce Wolf's attack did not have any effect as a shield covered Lin Jie.
-10,292! (Resisted)
"Wanna kill me?" Lin Jie sneered, but in his mind, he was shocked beyond words! 
Indeed, a starving camel was still bigger than a horse, despite being constrained by The New Age's system rules, these men were still extremely powerful! This was simply too appalling. Lin Jie would have been killed if he hadn't obtained the second kill out of Clomaros' Seven Kills—Death Ray Kill—from the Star Elves' Tomb!
"My turn!" Lin Jie shouted as he whipped his Broken Blade and unleashed Chaotic Wind Kill! Gale wind howled past the two experts, and their bodies were levitated. Lin Jie followed up with his Army Obliteration move!
"Brother, hold on!" At that moment, a green sword probed out from the far beyond and prodded Broken Blade, blocking down the first sword move of Army Obliteration.
"Who dares to stop me from killing?" Lin Jie's eyes grew frosty as his Broken Blade begun swiveling abruptly, knocking the green sword away with the large rotational force. The spinning blade even prodded into Fierce Wolf's and Venom Snake's armors like a drill, as it found its way to the latter's chest! Instakill! There was still one final sword move left for Army Obliteration, as Lin Jie shifted the sword edge and stabbed in Fierce Wolf's direction!
The figure that stopped Lin Jie finally revealed himself, and it turned out to be a well-groomed young chap. He was clad in white and held a green sword, presenting himself as a Niseko. His green sword leaned towards Broken Blade in an effort to halt its tracks as he exclaimed, "Brother, calm down, let's talk it out first!"
"Who are you?" Lin Jie was tyrannical as he activated Flame Boost. Fire sparked abruptly at the blade tip as he wielded Broken Blade towards Fierce Wolf's neck.
Die!
Fierce Wolf's head rolled down onto the ground and was transformed into four spinning runes. The same went for Venom Snake as he died and transformed into victory loot just like that.
"You! I wanted to work with you, but you just pushed us and the collaboration out of the door." The young man in white smiled bitterly and helplessly. "You don't understand the meaning of amiability attracts riches."
Lin Jie sneered. "Amiability attracts riches? Why didn't you guys think of that when you helped Eighteen Massacres to go against my Brotherhood and rule the city? Now you are telling me that? Let me show you what's amiability—I will send all of you illegal aliens back and slay Eighteen Massacres on top of that, that's amiability!"
"You are seriously thickheaded. I was unaware of those actions, and to be honest, we would not have been on such bad terms if you didn't destroy the teleportation circle." The man in white said, "We are here this time round to recruit ten collaboration partners in total. Your Brotherhood, the Xuanyuan Alliance, and the Kingdom of Glory are ranked top three. My main motive here is to work with you."
"Tell me your name first," replied Lin Jie.
"My name is White Cloth, and I used this name in the battle teams as well, feel free to search it up." White Cloth had a calm demeanor, which was a stark contrast to the previous players. "Originally, I planned to strike a deal with you. I would use an item of equal value in exchange for your Broken Blade and the lady's Book of The Age. However, you killed two of my men without reason, so I have to… slay you now."
Lin Jie laughed eerily. "When all goes to all, you are still gonna kill and rob, right? Why did you even bother coming up with so many self-righteous reasons? I am here with my Broken Blade. If you want it, just kill me, and you can have it. If you aren't capable enough, I will be killing you and absorbing your runes."
"You can't kill me. I possess the strongest defense, and if this drags on, when Eighteen Massacres leads the monsters to siege the city, you will lose as well." White Cloth spoke calmly as though that would be the expected outcome. His tone angered Lin Jie immensely.
Lin Jie had deduced the identity of the man in front of him.
Previously, when the system released the six Bosses, there had only been five names. Lin Jie always thought that it was because he had slain Falcon! However, he recalled that a total of seven people had escaped from the teleportation circle! So, where had the last one been until now?
He was here!
The man in front of him was the seventh person, White Cloth! Nobody knew where he had been hiding—he had probably been investigating the land's secrets or doing something else.
And now, he stood in front of him with the confidence that killing him would not require much effort!
"Berserker's 100 Consecutive Strikes!" Lin Jie planned to crush him to death with his strongest attack!
