Ah I meant the venenum sect of the assassin school. Even high level government officials and special agents could always keep some handy I mean. View More

Tomoyuki: It's like a pharmacist or chemist, only certain people will know how to concoct it. You don't simply learn it at a general school, you need to attend a specialized school for that.

Tomoyuki: ...I think you're exaggerating, and I never said it's too much. I'm just pointing out that you can have actual pets over summoned beasts and they make for superior companions because summoned beasts...are just an extension of yourself, rather than an actual "pet". They won't betray you because they are a part of you, though some circumstances may lead them to rebel against your orders (if you ill-treat or abuse them). It really depends. It's like saying you want your hand or leg to be your pet. And your summoned beasts will talk behind your back with each other when they return to your Spirit Sea (where they dwell before you summon them), so I don't know why you think they are immune to betrayal. Of course they won't betray you or backstab you - if you die, they die, so they benefit from you being alive. That doesn't mean they are completely enslaved - they have their own sentience, and there are ways to get around that contract if you abuse them.

Pets don't eat you when you fatten up enough, that's ridiculous and quite an insult to all pets. Plus you can't sell a summoned beast's fur because it will disappear - it's made of mana, it will dissipate once it separates from the body, and unless you continually infuse it with mana forever, it'll disappear instantly. And summoned beasts don't eat, so do not feed them tasty crystals.

If you want, you can have a summoned beast for a pet. No one is stopping you. I'm merely pointing out that real pets make for better companions, I'm not telling you not to have a summoned beast for a pet. I feel like you're overreacting a little. Fantasize if that's what you want, all I'm pointing out is that if you want companionship, actual pets function better. If you think summoned beasts make for better pets (and I would disagree), so be it. Have fun fantasizing or imagining it. That's what the story is for - it's not for me alone, it's for everyone to interpret and read it however they want.

Well lol everything I said was just an example, a way of explaining how or why, that's all. I'm not against pets per se, but I'd just be a little afraid of them always I mean. It's not like all pets are bad but if it's happened to one person, once in the whole world, what if you're that person? It's easy to joke and say that will never happen untill it does. People sometimes keep predators like lions OR tigers and pets and personally feed them for years thinking that it will remember them, but all it takes is one day of hunger for it to forget who you are and eat anything it comes across, be it your family, or you. Magic beasts are regarded as far more intelligent than normal beasts and sometimes comparable to kids, or even people. Kids are really sweet, really innocent and mostly harmless. But even little kids get jealous, angry, etc and there are many cases of bullying, kids setting houses on fire(it maybe unknowingly or even mistakenly but it's still dangerous) kids lying to others saying that the person with them are trying to kidnap them(while in reality it's their family and they refused to buy a toy for them). I do understand Im being very negative about everything and taking only the bad examples but it's how I am, I'm always worried about the negatives first and I think about the positive after. After all it only takes the one weakest link to break the chain. View More

All things said, I just want a summoned companion who stays with me for a clear reason (my mana), who will be open and straight forward with me, tell me if I'm wrong and leave me when our objectives are no longer the same or our paths no longer coincide. I don't want a pet that eats me once I've fattened up enough, a friend who backs stabs me when I'm at my weakest, or a slave that I can use to become rich or strong(who in his/her heart resents me). but if it can give me some of its shredded fur so I can buy some food for us to eat(once OR twice) , help me avoid a pit in the dark, or just play with me when I'm bored or sad is not too much to ask is it? Wouldn't it be justified in asking me to comb it's fur or clean it's scales everyday, or feed it tasty crystals every time I get my hands on some, or give it some free space or hug it when it's going through bad memories from its past? or are you going to tell me 'you should do it for free you bastard! you're a scum for even asking such a thing!'... would it not consider me a pervert or a schemer for doing anything it wants without asking anything in return instead? I'm a simple minded person who got shown the bad bits in life and had to face it alone, and learn from them. I can understand people having their own reasons, their own troubles, problems and pasts and I won't blame them for scheming , lying, talking bad behind people's backs, betrayers, cheaters, liars, people who use others, people who do nothing when they could have helped and all the other kinds, but I don't want to spend my life with such a companion. I have hundreds of people I call colleagues, friends and family but in truth I trust no one. In a world where people can dream to be immortals and fly or have supernatural powers, I just want a trusty companion, a few books I can enjoy, a job I can do all day that makes me feel like I earn my pay, a simple life I can feel is not wasted and a quick death I can feel grateful for.... View More

Tomoyuki: Yeah, but if that's the case, you are not seeking for companionship. Because you're definitely not going to summon them for long periods at a time. And you are underestimating pets, I feel. They are not meant to be convenient. Companions are not something you want out of convenience.

Summoner Sovereign · C185

As I understand it a companion is someone who will accompany you on your journey and whose interests if not exactly the same as yours, atleast are similar or parallel. I don't want my friends or companions or partners to be always with me or to give me all of their attention and time. I just want a honest relationship with clear intentions. And again I can't be worried about them every second of they'll get hurt or get kidnapped, and I won't be able to go anywhere or do anything if it's so. You might think I am a selfish person who considers others as useful or useless I will leave it to you to decide, nothing I say will change that anyway. To me them being of some help is an added bonus, not the point of it.let us consider a relationship between husband and wife and in example, do they not help each other out and share all burdens in any way they can? If the husband asks his wife "hey I have some work to do tomorrow so I can't go to the store and buy this for me? " will the wife think that he is using her and only got married so that he can get an errand girl? If it doesn't change your opinion I can only say atleast I'm being honest about it. I see the darker side of society every day. All relationships are based on what each person gains from it. Every single one. Friends are only friends if they're there when you need em. Love? He/she makes me feel special/different, he/she complements me, understands me, keeps me company when I'm sad etc it's all a give and take, if one person stops giving the other is eventually bitter and it ends sooner or later. A lady in my neighborhood had a husband who was a lazy bum who never worked and sat at home all day. The lady went to work and said nothing for years, they had two daughters but the guy was still lazy and started becoming a drunkard and a gambler hitting his wife everyday, and went missing for a few days every month or got locked up in the police station every few weeks, and more trouble started popping up and the lady was very miserable along with her 2 daughters. But suddenly one day he dissapeared and never came back and it's been more than 8 years now. The lady wasn't worried at all instead she was/ still is very happy. Rumours started that she killed her husband and got away with it and I remember she complained to everyone about him and even said that she's thinking about killing him in his sleep. Now I don't know what really happened but I still feel like its better he dissapearEd coz his tyounger daughter is now studying in high school and the other is working and the lady is living a better life today too.
What I'm trying to say is that an unequal relationship or a one where one side is a lazy bum is never healthy and is never to be expected to last forever OR even end well for that matter. this 'usefulness' is just something that nobody speaks about but it exists and the universe is as ugly as it the word seems to be. We live in a world where feelings and emotions rule everything that we do, where people do stuff so they can maintain a good image in front of others or so that they can tell themselves "Im a good person aren't I? " . now consider the same examples and situations in a world where life and death hangs on a balance every day, where tomorrow isn't guaranteed? Let's go to your statement, I wont think of a farmer or wood worker or a builder and useless but a person who complains about everything and everyone but does nothing himself? Not a person who hasn't yet found anything he's good at but what about a person who refuses to even try anything once and says he was born talent less? A person who is very good at making powerful and stable barriers but refuses to make them because he feels a hero should only fight head on?he wants to only Slay monsters and refuses to make a barrier even after city is destroyed in front of him? All things said, I just want a summoned companion who stays with me for a clear reason (my mana), who will be open View More

But summoned beasts don't age or die(of non-battle causes), they can't/don't betray you or betray your trust, it's easier to unsummon them when a battle arrives or to protect them from people scheming against my back, they cannot be kidnapped or sold off, and they're really useful too. Even if they can't help much, they could still call for help or help find someone/something, have an animal instinct for dangerous beasts or natural disasters, send a message(they could carry a piece of paper I mean) and lots more. While a real pet cans do most of them too, they're not as convenient, and they definitely don't pass the first few important checks. View More

Tomoyuki: I think an actual pet will be much better for you if what you want is companionship. Summoned beasts can't stay in the material world 24/7, after all.

Summoner Sovereign · C185

Hmm. But I'd still like a pet though, even if it's a little redundant or weaker than other ways you can use the same mana even better. I might still summon it if it's completely useless because a pet is a great companion, and stress reliever. I could just unsummon him/her when it's not safe or during battles. View More

Tomoyuki: In terms of game mechanics, basically that pet is going to allow you to cast spells for free because he's going to be an unlimited mana battery that converts mana. I'm thinking of Magic: The Gathering terms where you can basically abuse his ability for unlimited combos and I don't want to do that. And you can do that, but if you were going to do that, then why not just directly cast debuffing spells or curses on the enemies instead of summoning a spirit that does it for you? Seems like quite a roundabout way, I think.

Summoner Sovereign · C185

Though lol. I was just trying to make a pet not too useful but not useless either. XD IDK how it turned out op. Maybe a summon that can use growl or intimidate(from Pokemon? The move and ability that reduces opponents attack by a stage, which is 5%ish) View More

Tomoyuki: Nah, summoned monsters can't efficiently mana conversion, otherwise they will be insanely broken. I don't want to create god-like characters who can cheat the system, because they are not just fun to write. What's the point if they can easily solve everything? Can't make things too easy for them, they have to work with the system, not break it.

Tomoyuki: Of course you're right. What I mean to say is that the child wouldn't necessarily become both a summoner and an assassin just because his parents were summoners and assassins. He/she will have his/her own route, and even I won't know how that will turn out unless I reach the point where I write it (if it ever happens, of course). I want to leave it open, and leave it entirely to the individual rather than determining his/her traits based on his/her parents, if you know what I mean.

Summoner Sovereign · C185

Yeah like that. Even if their hypothetical kid doesn't become an assassin or summoner they can still learn Assasin basics like how Richard learned the sword basics and maybe become a healer who can hide their presence and sneak up on people. Maybe even poison their enemies. Or summon a cute pet that can efficiently convert mana. I mean like mana conversion and management is a huge problem for everyone. Converting mana into blades, converting mana into healing energy or holy energy or body's natural healing factor, or converting mana into flames. Even just a 1% boost might mean a lot more lives saved it more monsters killed in the long run. View More

Tomoyuki: It's not a coincidence at all, that was precisely the point. His dad will still inevitably have an influence on him, even if Richard doesn't follow his path exactly. Sort of like Emiya Shirou and Emiya Kiritsugu (they both summoned Saber, but they have very different types of magic).

Summoner Sovereign · C185

Summoner Sovereign · C185

Yeah but his dad is also technically a summoner. It could be said that Richard was influenced by the first monster he saw, and the first hero that protected him as an inspiration to find his own style of magic. Usually the parents are the heroes of little children and also the first teachers, so a child always learns something and is influenced in some way by them. Let's say for example Richard and Ana get married but later Richard dies trying to protect the world(just hang in there for a sec) Anastasia like any mother would want her children to stay safe and would definitely teach them the basics of how to hide, or how to use or cure some common poison etc. Even if the child becomes a healer, it would inherit(learn) a few skills from their mother and they might look up to their father, or hate him for leaving them and they would avoid any form of summoning and stay away from summoners untill their mental scars heal. You can take the sword saint clan or the wood technique clan as and example too XD View More

Haha yeah. Took me a few mistakes back then to realize what you said right now in just a few words. It doesn't wear down my faith in humanity, though I guess my faith is already just barely alive, along with my trust issues and faith that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. But I try to judge people by their own past and present actions only and try not to make my judgement interfere in my actions or words towards them. I just do what I feel is good hoping that someday others will do the same. :D thank you though. View More

Tomoyuki: I feel you, man. I won't say all of those happened to me, and usually when I help people, they tend to be grateful (though the homeless people don't even say thank you when I give them some cash, they just take my money and walk off - good thing all I have is loose change). But most of the times, nobody calls me pervert where I help them, for example, helping someone on a wheelchair get off the bus or helping them open a door. I meet a lot of decent people in real life, and I feel very fortunate, especially when compared to your experiences. I can only say, keep it up, dude! Believe in the good of humanity, but at the same time, don't be naive as well, and know your limits. If you need money for the bus, stand up for yourself. Help if you can, but don't let others bully you. The first person you should help is yourself, your friends and family second, and strangers third. Don't worry and leave those "friends" or people who gang up on you. They don't deserve your help. And thanks for reading.

Unlike normal heroes, our hero is super intuitive. Well seeing a woman who's dressed "inviting" is usually one of 2 situations. Either it's a scheme by a gang to extort money or the lady is a police officer(I've personally seen this one) who's just waiting to be harassed so she can bang their heads on the floor and cuff them. But really even if it wasn't the case it would be a bad idea to get involved in that unless you've got friends in high places and personal power off the charts like Richard here. Coz it could also be a set up by a different 'hero' to save the damsel in distress, or you could be accused of being in cahoots with the harassers, or the lady might think you're a pervert/suspicious person for trying to help her(.....been there....) it's hard being a good person these days...... I don't blame the bystanders much. I mean they could have helped but....its a 90% chance things aren't going to end well for them. For example, I'm a guy who tries to help people in any way I can even empty out my wallet and give them everything I have, it did turn out well most of the time but a few times it did not end well. Once there was a girl who had no idea how to reach her home and did not have much money and knew only the address(go figure) asking my female friend for help, my friend said she was busy but I said I could help her and I went all the way to her neighborhood(was on the other side of the city) and next day my friend told me she thanked her but told her I'm a pervert and asked her to stay away from me... Another time I saw 2 kids who said they hadn't eaten in days(they looked like they were homeless too) I bought them some food and gave them all my money and later found out they stole my phone and a day searching them led me to find them trying to sell my phone. Another time there were this group of people who were trying to collect money for helping the disabled and I gave one of them my entire hidden stash I kept for a rainy day, and another lady approached me and asked me to give her some too (it's for a "good" cause) and I told her I had only enough left for me to pay for the bus but they all ganged up on me and we got into a huge argument and I thought they were gonna beat me up any second. Another time a guy from my university asked me for some money for buying lunch saying he forgot his wallet and he'll pay me back but he didn't the next day but he didn't mention it anymore and I left it at that but him and his friends started asking me for money every day and I couldn't give away that much and I said I need my money for my own lunch and they started ostracizing me and ruining my name. me being "me" I don't really care much about such stuff and I still help people when I can. but it might be too much for some people. So they are justified in being a 'bystander'. thanks for the View More

It's not really normal for authors to fail.... Its just usually most that do go premium and fail, fail because of 2 reasons.
1. They didn't plan their story too far, or run out of ideas, or suddenly try to quickly complete the story in an awkward attempt.
2. They lose a lot of readers because most readers(including yours truly) are just free readers who don't have much money to spend on hobbies. And either they get discouraged due to the sudden loss of readers or they're completely forgotten and swept away by new writers and other books, because their writing/story wasn't attractive enough for the remaining readers to stick around. Tomoyuki: Thanks. Looks like I made the right decision in not going premium this month then. Is it normal for writers to fail when they advance to premium status? I'm out of the loop, but I guess there are many complaints from readers regarding writers who went premium? It's more like readers hate webnovel (qidan) for putting up too huge paywalls they can never be able to scale. Selling a book is completely understandable, selling by word count is also kinda understandable....but selling stories that have thousands of chapters and millions of words by the word count is simply insane. Especially if the word count per dollar(or whatever currency you're familiar with) is completely out of the average person's reach. Reading books used to be a rich person's hobby in the ancient times, but today the 'rich' have VR, night clubs, vacations, 7 star paradises and a trip to the moon to enjoy. They don't care about books. Especially fiction. I guess now webnovel is kinda adapting and is slightly better compared to before but it's still steep enough for most people. I guess that went completely off topic, but what I am worried about is you being disheartened by the negative comments. My love for books aside, I really don't want you to hate/stop writing because we're losing authors by the day now, I remember a time when online authors wrote 200 chapters before taking a break and coming back again, but now there are 10 times the number of writers and back then, but 90% don't go past chapter 100, hell, 70% don't go past chapter 50 before giving up(remember Im not even including the less then 20 chapter.....trolls in my calculations). And I don't even want to think about the mental health of the people who comment and chat online these days. Again sorry for going off topic, I don't really mind you going premium at all. As a living breathing human being, you have your needs, and if you think you need to go premium it should be entirely your decision. Just make sure you read the fine print in any contract. View More
