The candlelight shone on the brick walls as he made his way down with it. He paid more attention to them now and decreed that there was definitely something odd about them. The mortar had almost entirely worn itself away. Perhaps that could have been put down to the dampness of the air… but with Pash's eye now caught, even the very stones themselves seemed far too old to match with the age of the cottage. They looked half a century old at least, from the way they were weathered.

It was for that reason that Pash found himself somewhat liking Harkin. He was a harsh man, for sure, with a foul-mouth, always quick to swear and swing his fist, but at least he was equally harsh with everyone, just as he was with Ermos and Pash. In his eyes, they were all equally useless.
