Do people chase greatness, or does greatness chase us? A.I. genius, Gengyo, through the assistance of SAPPHIRE attains the means to time travel. He seeks a simpler life, and wishes to experience the warmth of a family. But often we do not get what we want, we get what we deserve. And his peaceful times soon end, as war storms Japan, and in order to protect his peace, he must conquer. Join Gengyo as he walks a blood-stained path toward absolute domination, seizing control of Japan. //Brief extract from one of the battle scenes. Written from the point of view of a samurai landowner, Niwa Nakatane. The hooves grew closer to Nakatane's position and their beating hearts grew faster. Perhaps they could simply remain like that, hiding behind the tree, and allow these barbarians to pass? That way could they not return home to their families? Could they not give their dear wives one final kiss, or share one final story with their enthusiastic youth? Nakatane knew exactly what they were thinking. And as the ground rumbled, and the mounted beasts howled, he was the first man to step out from the trees and make his stand. "OORAH!" Possessed by a furious energy, he thrust out with all the aggression of a war god, puncturing Ochi's stallion through the chest with the sharpened wooden point of his lengthy spear. The mammoth fell from his mount clumsily, his head colliding with a nearby tree root. He ceased to move, and a pool of blood began to form around him. "ARM THESE SPEARS MEN! VICTORY SHALL BE OURS!" He stood in front of the charge of over 150 horsemen, alone. But he did not give a single inch of ground. He met the charge of the next man in line, roaring vengefully, possessed by all the rage and power that had accumulated in his body over these past years. The horsemen shrieked like a pack of hyenas, fanning out, each eager for a piece of the man who had brought down their leader. //I did not create the book cover. At eighteen years old, Giovanni Moretti achieves perfection. Both physically, and mentally. It does not require much effort on his part in order to push forward. In the year 2030, the Italian government is running a rather controversial university. On a whim, Giovanni enrols, expecting something of a holiday. But he gets more than he’s bargained for from this ‘Roman Academy’ as within days of joining, chaos descends. This is a rather dark novel folks, but I think you will find it entertaining. Giovanni starts off rather dislikeable, but he’s a fun character. Give it a shot. //The entirety of Volume 1 is already completed and can be purchased for $1 https://www.patreon.com/nickalderson

Grimthorn: Well I’m not on the comedown from my thoughts just yet, so once more unto the breach we go.

Morality, the thing that keeps people, and society the illusion of being civilized. It’s my belief that morality is just a set of rules we consciously or subconsciously create to fit in with others.

Now Giovanni has rather skewed morals. He isn’t what any one would describe as a law abiding citizen. Being able to inflict pain, suffering, and probably death with out batting an eye. So why does he seem almost offended by rape?

It’s an awful thing to do it can cause a great deal of suffering for the victim is the common argument against rape which would be correct. if he cared about the victim.

So what does this mean? I think the reason Giovanni condones rape is the fact that it’s not perfect. It shows a fault in impulse control, which I believe Giovanni sees as an imperfection to lose control of one self, or that is how he consciously justifies it since it could be due to his childhood but I only have a couple lines of brief interpretation so that’s just a hypothesis.

Which begs the question is it because of his pursuit of perfection that has twisted his morals, or was it his view of perfection that was twisted by his morals?

Wow... That's an overwhelming review haha. That's probably the highest compliment I could ask for getting compared to Neitzche. Well, I'm glad you got something out of it. Writing it helped get me through some dark times :) View More

dashhydrogen: Alright. I'm gonna put my serious hat on for this one. I'm a fan of the authors previous work, Time Travellers Guide to Feudal Japan, and decided to pick this one up because he recommended it. Had a chat and ended up buying the whole thing. He's selling it on his patreon for a dollar but I got it through PayPal and sent five as a little treat, and let me tell you, even five dollars is too little for this.

I read books for a bit of a meme, wanting to get excited by overpowered characters doing crazy stuff. But this book gave me way more than that. The plot is captivating. The main character is hilarious. It's dark, and at times makes me feel uncomfortable. To be honest, it makes me feel a tonne of stuff.

I came expecting a book, and what I got was far more than that. I enjoyed every bit of it and learned so much in the process. I read a bit of philosophy at college, and I don't lie when I say this book is like this generations Thus Spake Zerathustra. I love everything about it. It's a crime that he's selling it for a dollar. It needs to be in a book shop, and on the best sellers list. Through relatable characters I've been introduced to some useful ideas and I feel like a more confident person because of it. For the first time, I understand myself better.

Damn, this ended up being long as ****, but Nick Alderson man, you've just earned a fan for life. Respect bro, you're a damn genius.

Power is more often a burden than a boon. Tis an idea we will explore in depth in this book. View More

Grimthorn: How would it feel to be god? To have unlimited power? Dominion over all you survey? It’s a question that plagues a lot of people or maybe just me.

People like to salivate at the potential power, and freedom but seem to ignore the price. With ultimate freedom, ultimate boredom still follows.

Now I raise these points due to the recent development of Giovanni’s character, as anyone who has read this far will know he aims for pure perfection, and what is more perfect than god?

But how does one amuse a god? By the randomness of mortals. People are amusing to watch they make mistakes, they succeed, and they are bound by the sometimes ironic strings of fate. I now wonder if Giovanni is actually pursuing his goal of perfection with full commitment, or if he is subconsciously twisting perfection to find pleasure from his now free, but drab, dull, grey world.

Grimthorn: I feel like crime is like a fire it brings some people together, it keeps some people warm at night, but it will also burn, and consume anything that is carelessly thrown on whether or not it is kindling or a body.

Grimthorn: Well I’m glad you found it thought provoking , and I do suppose control is also an element since to accept means there is a choice, and one needs control to have the power to choose.

Roman Academy · C12

Another thought provoking idea, nice one lad. I think it's to do with control as well. That which we can't improve must be either perfect or hopelessly iredeemable , and then that plays into your idea of acceptence because you have to accept such a thing. View More

Grimthorn: It’s interesting that Giovanni accepts the setting sun as perfection since it can be beautiful, but on the other hand not beautiful, but since no human can critique its practicality is it perfect? It serves its purpose with no fault in design so it should be perfect.

Nature is often like this whilst beauty is in the eye of the beholder thus subjective, but practical use isn’t. Which makes me believe that the definition of perfection isn’t truly correct.

I think that perfection is acceptance, to be perfect is to be accepted for eternity.

How many times has a tool be said to be perfect for the job? Even though it may have a glaring flaw it is still described as perfect why? It is due to acceptance, and though it is a bit of a hyperbole since tools can be replaced with the advancement of technology nature however cannot. No matter how hard you try, you cannot Improve the sky that fact has been accepted thus it is perfect.
