His gaze landed on Narene and he noticed the dark lines underneath her eyes and the tell-tale of wakefulness. He frowned. "Did you sleep at all last night?"

You need to understand that this is a fantasy setting and in this world, Sharen is a man's name. You can't judge it as if it was in reality. Also, you should not drop the book because of a character name (you'll get used to that) but you should read on to see if the plot interests you before making a decision to drop it.
