I do food delivery as a side job I work a machine shop job I live in America and it takes the two jobs together to make a living 70% of the income I get from food deliveries is tips without that while I may not be in a negative because I drive a 4-cylinder I would not make any money The one I do is door dash they implemented the paid by hour but they shaft you even then because you're only paid when you're on an order and you'll spend out of a 10-hour delivery time You're actually only actively on those orders for eight of those hours The rest of the time you're not getting paid but you're still out there trying to get another order to get paid and to top it off they make sure that those who do hourly get the least tipping jobs so with that no matter what those who don't temp and up unintentionally shafting the delivery driver it's not their fault they don't understand the industry unfortunately for us we're just kind of stuck in a rock and hard place
Being broke, walking to the store for takeout seemed cheaper than delivery, and the weird mandatory tipping custom that follows. "I mean why do I have to pay you for a job you are already paid for? And when I don't I get weird looks lol". I muttered to myself.
