I get that, I just don't understand why he didn't modify the whole thing to *not* turn him into a monster. Like, would you consider Spider-man literally being able to turn into a massive anthropomorphic spider to be an upgrade to his canon power set? Even if it made him a bit stronger, more agile and so on, the drawbacks don't seem worth it. I guess I always assumed that the insanity *and* turning into a 10 foot tall reptile abomination were equally unwanted side effects of a rushed and ill planned job of the original Peter. That he would follow Gwen's example of getting powers that are integrated into his body without some horrifying transformation.

Yeah, this is why the whole transformation is silly. Cool in an edgy way? Sure. But also incredibly impracticable in that it's inherently inhuman and will take time to adapt to, is glaringly villainous in form, which will drag so many unnecessary problems into Peter's lap, can't be accessed with any kind of ease in public places like a costume change would, and so on.

Wait, wasn't the whole point of adapting Gwen's DNA so that he gets all the benefits of reptile-whatever without having to turn into some monstrous side form? On the other hand, RMRS (Rapid Muscle Regenesis Syndrome) was something that he'd pulled out of his ass to explain his rapid climb to health and increased muscle mass.
