Even as a kid, Xander had never been too fond of such attractions. It was not because he was afraid of the macabre themes or the creepy creatures lurking within, but because he considered the idea of paying to be scared beyond ridiculous. He couldn't fathom how people freaked out inside such haunted attractions when they already knew everything was fake.

The hollow steel pendulum swung ominously on his right as Xander walked down the grassy path littered with Popsicle sticks and paper wrappers. He could smell the popcorn tossed in butter and the flavored ice creams melting around him.

Xander realized that Time Inversion was a double-edged sword since it would keep reviving him every time he died but also make it incredibly difficult for him to defeat his foes next time. And once the Soulscape collapsed, not even Time Inversion could save him from death. The ability neither conferred immortality nor invincibility, but only served as a means to delay the inevitable.

The Soul Guardian responded by thrashing the water violently with its tentacles, spraying moss and leafy debris all over the place. Another pair of glowing yellow eyes appeared on its face as it whipped around wildly.

Seizing the opportunity, the Cacodemon rushed at Bill and pinned him to the ground, slashing at his throat with its razor-sharp claws. Blood guzzled out of his gaping wounds as the demon pulled back its arms.
