Not trying to be a nitpick, but usually they would say “courting” instead of “dating”. Dating wasn’t really a term back then since if you were “dating” back then, that would mean you were either engaged or having an affair.

all these… thoughts of trying to make sense of this going thru my head can only be summed up into this-
