Why are people calling him stupid for this? Has anyone here played a CYOA before? Becuase those get boring real quick if you just make yourself OP from the start. It's fun the first two or three times, but after that it's dull. This is just a random CYOA to him, not something he's taking seriously for obvious reasons.

Nah, with how Shizuka was talking about (and thinking about) her, they were definitely together, even if it was never directly stated.
Yeah, the house of Shizuka-sensei's girlfriend is the best initial place. If I remember correctly, the protagonists only left because they needed to search for their parents and food. But with a little effort, we can try to make it a more lasting base.
