"The girl I rescued last night. Wanted to make sure Alora and Amelia did a good job with her," he chuckled and it took all my willpower not to slam him into the wall. Even if the girl wasn't my mate, I had little patience for Virgil's "hunts", as he called them. He liked to take advantage of the naivete of the humans he usually brought back to the mansion, knowing they were stuck here until the servants could escort them back. He would convince them to want to stay, do his little courtship dance until they promised him a feeding, and then take what he wanted and move on to the next toy. He didn't always bring his targets back to the mansion, but I loathed it when he did. It was almost as if he wanted us to watch, to prove that he was somehow better than us because he was willing to drink from a throat rather than a glass.

The witch slowly put her wand back into her hair, covering her face as she continued crying with her own jealous and pain. I found it hard to empathize with her, considering how she had just attacked Luc, but I decided to remain silent as Lee flew over to her, gently placing his hand on her shoulder.

"Me." Luc agreed as he tossed the witch out the broken window, and Azger rushed into the room to check on Sarai and Lee. I rushed over to the window as Luc followed Jinx out the broken aperture and I glanced out to see them both standing in the backyard. Jinx had her wand raised to attack the hybrid, and Luc seemed ready to take her attacks. My heart raced as I called out to him, worry quickly replacing my anger.

As we reached the next platform, Lee and I paused, waiting for the staircases to rotate and allow us to keep working our way to the top. It didn't seem like Ambrose was refusing us, because if she didn't want us, the deity had enough control over the Inbetween to keep us from moving up. A part of me wondered if she was expecting us, and I started to climb the next set of stairs as it passed the platform.
