well he didn't really know where to look for using the map and also he might've forgotten about the map
Clay walked around for a while until he could find a store that looked like it could sell the items he needed. About 5 minutes had passed since he started walking before finding a shop called 'Writing Materials', a very straightforward name that hopefully sells what it says.

Clay won't feel comfortable going to others stores that sell maps if thats what you mean, he feels more 'secure' in his village since he lives there
Clay woke up full of energy, as he could basically create a second tier two map today, only if he had sufficient information about another place because frankly, Clay doesn't have any more ideas of what to make a map of, so, he woke up, washed up, and ate before heading out to Jim's Maps, using his tier two map, of course, because who would walk there when you could just teleport there.

Clay was flabbergasted and horrified that such an item exists to the point that he nearly tripped while walking. He instantly regretted clicking on the item as now he can't imagine sleeping at night while knowing someone could accidentally cut his fate strings at any time and instantly kill him.
