It depends on perspective of person if you view from Knull's point of view then Celestials were destroying darkness with light and if you view from Celestial PoV then they are just creating a universe (note: They just are carrying some energy with them that allowed them to create a universe) in a empty space.

He wasn't an unreasonable god who would throw a tantrum just because he didn't get what he wanted, unlike most of the other gods.
