Nial felt the bird's talons pierce his clothing and slice along his ribs. He screamed for help as the thing flapped, it's massive wings giving a great whomph, whomph, whomph and the world dragged at Nial.

LOL exactly

He was invisible now. He could go explore the city a little bit, just see what he remembered from the game and see how accurate it was. If he was back in thirty minutes they wouldn't even know he had been gone. He wouldn't talk to anyone, or do anything except look around. He wouldn't change a Chrono Nexus that way, right?

Yes!

But Dorian didn't get to finish the thought because just at that moment, Scar began to fade. Right there, in front of Nial's startled eyes, her entire body grew… faint. She became partly transparent, the couch and wall behind her becoming visible through her.

Hmmmm, I'll check. Thank you!

The sprawling space was longer than it was wide, large enough to have fit most of Nial's old house–before his parents abandoned him. The hardwood floors were scattered with persian rugs, and one entire long wall covered in chests and trunks stacked on shelves that ran from floor to ceiling. The length of the room was filled

Exactly

When they were back on solid land, it was another hour's hike—mostly uphill—to reach the mountainside City. Nial had gaped at the statue, shaking his head at the pocked and worn face that no longer showed clear features, and the extended arm that ended in an uneven stone wrist because the hand had been broken off many years earlier.

Nial watched avidly as rocks and dust tumbled from the ceiling of the cave. More light beams appeared behind the statue and it began to slide towards him, its eyes open and glowing red.

LOVE IT

It had taken hours of cutting their way through the forest to reach the bridge across that canyon. Nial found his energy flagging before the forest finally peeled back to reveal a long arc of a hanging-bridge. Glad he wasn't scared of heights, Nial had enjoyed walking along the swaying planks, holding the lines on either side, leaning over to stare down the massive drop to the churning river below. But his smile had been short-lived.

Very true

Dorian grunted, but Scar sighed and her face went grim. "Sorry, Nial. But… despite how much we fight, it's important for us both to be here for you."

"The spectrum is what we call the combination of time and space that the game draws from. It's a specific period of time in a specific place. That's the area of the Elysium wasteland, and the most recent hours that the magic draws from to replicate. If Dorian takes you too close to it, he risks getting you sucked into the game. It's… attracted to you."
